Honey is one of those things that look absolutely delicious but taste awful. I tried many types of honey and every time the subtle flavors of different flowers were overwhelmed by sugar, even the less sweet types like buckwheat honey. Honestly it's only good as sugar substitute, and that's it
You absolutely should buy local if you can. Pollen from local flowers helps the immune system deal with allergens. Some athletes use royal jelly, but I don't know much about that.
Buy honey, but skip that shit in the grocery store, in your grocery store it's actually one of the third most likely foods to be illegally adulterated (#1 is olive oil, #2 is milk). You could literally be eating corn syrup instead of honey.
On the other hand, locally sourced honey from a farmers market, from a reputable source, is god tier.
not the guy but >olive oil
almost always diluted with seed oils.
Olive oil mafia, unionrically is making lots of money off that. Yes form italy, from america, everywhere.
Genuine 100% extra virgin olive oil is pretty good. The issue is getting the real stuff is near impossible unless you personally know the manufacturer as a friend or something.
Milk at stores is a far cry from the milk from cows.
Most of it is made fro milk powder and water.
>almost always diluted with seed oils.
What the frick? Wouldn't that be highly illegal? Maybe they can get away with it in burger land but Europe is pretty strict about labelling.
>What the frick? Wouldn't that be highly illegal?
It is. But criminals don't care. They are making a huge profit. >Maybe they can get away with it in burger land but Europe is pretty strict about labelling.
I fricking told you, they do it straight up in italy, among other places.
Getting genuine good stuff is very very fricking hard.

it's almost impossible in europe to buy genuine 100% extra virgin olive oil unless you're paying at least 50 euros per litre

From what I hear, the more strict requirements by the USDA and olive oil associations, not to mention far less of a grip by organized crime, means that American EVOO is actually less likely to be cut with sneed oil.
The raw label is kind of meaningless. They can heat it and it's still considered raw. The chinks figured how to make honey-like syrup with rice so also look out for that. Local gets hyped up as an allergen cure but it's actually the pollen that does that, not the sugar. Mixing a bit of honey in water and drinking it on a fasted stomach has been a folk remedy for thousands of years so I think it's pretty pompous to say they're all wrong because of some shit people think in this 5 year span that it's just toxic sugar.
IIRC even all of the israelites, Christians and Muslims have scripture talking about the benefits of honey, so I believe that. israelites had Soloman speaking about it, Jesus was given honey to help him recover and the Quran is very specific about bees and honey being a cure. >“And thy Lord has inspired the bee, saying, ‘Make thou houses in the hills and in the trees and in the trellises which they build. Then eat of every kind of fruit, and follow the ways of thy Lord that have been made easy for thee.’ There comes forth from their bellies a drink of varying hues. Therein is cure for men. Surely, in that is a Sign for a people who reflect.”
I'm just going to believe this over a fad diet.
Live in a rural area, you have at least one neighbor with a hive. > Compliment said hive > They will give you an amount of honey that irrelevant to them. > Now have enough honey for years
I did by accident. Felt something behind my head, thought it was a wasp. Felt bad when I smacked it and it stung me, it was a bee. Sorry honey don’t sneak up on me!
Mead, certain baking applications, topped up on oatmeal or toast, tea, component of glazes for roasts. Those are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
Honey is amazing in a Baklava or with ice cream. Its also natures sweetener so any application where corn syrup or sugar can be used in a recipe can be replaced with honey.
Preferably don't add heat to honey much though.
i am a beekeeper in southern brazil, border with argentina. I have a theory: Chewing gum and mints were invented based on the act of sucking honey from the honeycomb. You chew the wax... and that's all there was for centuries. Chewing gum is a simulacrum of honey in the comb.
Real honey doesn't leave a cloying acidic aftertaste OP. That's the thing. All the bottles of 'honey' are just shit.
Its Manuka, homemade with an apiary or honeycomb.

I've heard you should buy Spanish olive oil instead of Italian because there's less chance it is adultered. Not sure if it is true though.
Yeah, most probably. The best olive oil comes from Spain
Buy quality California olive oil like from Cobram estate if you're American.
not really
most spanish brands are pure garbage.
stop listening to the telly
EXTRA VIRGIN COLD PRESSED GREEK OLIVE OIL IS THE ONLY CHOICE
Wait, what's wrong with olive oil and milk at the stores? I only buy the organic ones which are 100% pure

According to Ray Peat the sugar actually does help suppress histamines

You had been eating corn syrup
I fricking love bees. I fricking murder wasps, hornets and all the other scum of the world, but I'd never harm a bee
I did by accident. Felt something behind my head, thought it was a wasp. Felt bad when I smacked it and it stung me, it was a bee. Sorry honey don’t sneak up on me!
What do people even use honey for except if they're sick?
My family basically treats it like throat medicine
thats weird because your mom already uses my cum for her throat medicine
same

I like to use it to make slightly sweet sauces.
