Didn't the greeks promote the idea of being both strong physically and mentally? I swear this whole "dumb jock" and "smart nerd weakling" is just some israeli hollywood cliche.

Either hollywood, or just nerd cope.
Or both. Hollywood cliché to sell something to coping nerds

They also made fun of bodybuilders and people exercising for exercises sake. There are only two reasons to exercise:
      >Health
      >Performance in war
They even made fun of their own athletes after athletics became a job, pro athletics if you will. They knew that being a champion boxer is neither healthy, nor will it make you better at actual warfare. In fact, they claimed that an athlete and a soldier are pretty much opposites of each other when it comes to goals. One has to do a superhuman effort once every few years, knows exactly when that would happen and how it would happen. Completely controlled circumstances. We know this as "peaking" nowadays.

The other has to be as good as possible, all the time, no matter if he's sick, weak, hungry, thirsty, caught on the wrong foot, ambushed by superior numbers, has diarrhea or whatever else.

Unfortunately, athletics won out in the end, and they got conquered, just as they had foreseen before. Clever guys, those ancient Greeks. We should learn from history. But we make the same mistakes - when was the last time people idolized soldiers (1960s?)? When was the last time they idolized athletes (a minute ago)?

Why idolize soldiers? They are real people like any other. Our grandparents fought to defend our country when Russia invaded, they came home suffering mentally drowning their pains in alcohol leading and keeping silent of the war. I idolize their effort to protect the country, and when the russians come again i'll be there, even if i don't want war, but our country and independence has to be defended that's just how it is. However i do not idolize being a soldier because being a soldier is not always good, and some countries send their soldiers to useless imperialistic efforts letting them die in droves for the sake of some vague nationalistic idea of land that belonged to you 200 years ago or something like that.

Your white blood cells are made of a substance called glutamine. Coincidentall when you tear muscle fibers, glutamine is used for those repairs. So WBC synthesis is detoriated and youre more prone to infection. Find Glutamine. You can buy it at a Vitamin Shoppe
