Using your hip joints as levers when one can't lift the same weight normally isn't the same and it isn't magic. Enjoy your future hip surgery.

You don't think you use your hip joint as a "lever" in a conventional deadlift?

            >What are legs even?
You don't think at all. Open your legs wide open like the woman you are. Your leg and hip joints are moving in a different manner as a conventional lift and allocating pressure completely differently.
You are not smart interpreting words and you wish your brain was as large as a pea.

You don't understand human anatomy or biomechanics. The hip joint does extension in both lifts. Difference is the hip flexors are more involved in a sumo deadlift

                Anonynoose

Yes, different muscle groups are engaged at higher-or-lower levels with a sumo lift versus a deadlift. We aren't arguing about how the concepts of human anatomy or biomechanics exist or not, we are arguing about the the mechanics of a sumo lift versus the mechanics of a conventional lift right? Biomechanics isn't my field of study, but frick you I love learning.
Isn't sumo a form that engages muscles that should not be primarily engaged for this type of lift, such as rotator cuffs during a bench press; or in this case hip flexors in the sumo? Knowing biomechanics as you do on this anonymous basket weaving forum, what about the sumo lift isn't dangerous for long-term health vs. the spine compressing naturally as it can in a conventional? It seems to me like all shear force is directed towards your hips and is begging for major hip injuries when people think they can simply up their PR for deadlift without understanding the anatomy in play.
None of this is sarcasm or meant to be snarky, sumo looks dangerous to do wrongly. Which can be said about all lifts, but the sumo lift is repeatedly viewed and taken to up your deadlift significantly and that's what attracts people to try it.

This. Same goes for wide-stance low bar squats. They're basically cheating now and destroying your hips for later.

140kg for doubles isn't destroying your CNS. Deadlift twice a week working up to a 1x5 and another lighter session working at 3x6-8 or a 10, 8, 6 pyramid.
Go a little lighter than you think you should, for your 1x5 I'd pick 130kg and for the pyramid do 100, 110, 120

          >it doesn't destroy your CNS because I say so!
I stopped deadlifting regularly after reaching 2.5pl8 for reps because it'd turn me into a useless vegetable the rest of the day. I don't care if it's CNS or just "normal" fatigue from baby weights, it was still draining.

I've been lifting for a while now, but still a noob on the actual mechanisms. Is that what happens when you rarely lift to failure?

      Anonymous

No it's what happens when you lift high intensity with low volume whilst focusing on technique and probably not eating in much of a surplus. You train your cns to use your muscle mass more efficiently and fire your muscle fibres in sync (outside of the fact that he's doing a sumo deadlift which cuts ROM and is mechanically more advantageous). Potential strength of a muscle is dictated by cross sectional area of the muscle belly but it needs to be trained with strength specific stimulus to achieve the potential strength. It's why most bodybuilders aren't as strong as most powerlifters even with more muscle mass. You ofc can get guys who were strong like Ronnie Coleman who are huge but also he lifted heavy often.

No it isn't, or if it is then whoever is doing the programming is an idiot. It's an objective measire, not a subjective one. A 5 rep set at 90% 1RM is totally different in terms of load on the body if it's 140kg or 340kg.

if sumo was so easy, records will all be in sumo but it's not.

nta but if you look at the stats you'll see that more people pull sumo in the lower weight classes. this is because people in lower weight classes are generally shorter and can get in a more favorable sumo stance. as weight classes go up limbs get longer and longer limbs will at some point prevent people from getting into a proper sumo stance since they can't spread out as wide.

tldr: barbell width is universal, limb lengths are not. people with shorter limbs (lower weight) can abuse the ROM reduction of sumo more than people with larger limbs (higher weight)

        Anonymous

This. It's the exact same as how you see the bullshit zero ROM benches happening in the lower weight classes because they're able to take a proportionately wider grip compared to big guys.

          Anonymous

yep, candito has a good video about this, grip width by weight class is a good fix. instead IPF went with the moronic "bench depth" solution. there's not a clear fix for sumo tho, except banning it kek

        >shorter limbs are better for sumo

            > Why do most of the biggest strongest guys lift conventional?
            because
            1) it's CONVENTIONAL. ie, it's the proper standard lift and it's the one they've trained for, rather than doing some cheating bullshit cope
            2) sumo cheating works better when you're shorter since you can get a proportionally wider stance. Those big 6'8 dudes doing World's Strongest Man and such don't get as much benefit from sumo because in order to get that ridiculous ROM decrease their leg stance would literally be wider than the distance of the barbell, so they can't do that.
            3) sumo is banned in strongman, as it should be

Do you even know the first thing about hypertrophy?
More weight does not equal more hypertrophy. It's about taking the target musculature to failure resulting in high degrees of mechanical tension for the muscle fibers.
In regards to the deadlift it is an unstable exercise, using a lot of different muscles, none of which are taken through a full range of motion.
In short it's useless. and also highly dependet on leverages. That's why you reguarly see skinny dyels with long arms who can look out just above their kneejoint pull large loads but still look like they've never participated in any physical exercise. See OP pic.

Deadlifts in sets of 12 are a great mass builder. If you train 1-5 then no you won't be big.

It is. I built my back with them. I never row. The problem is people who do 1, take a 5 minute rest, do one more, take a rest and maybe get 2 more and that's it. Or they do 1 set of 5 (lol). To reap the hypertrophy benefits you need to drop the weight to say 80%, hit multiple triples, then drop it down to around 50% and do a bunch of touch and go sets for amrap.

doing deadlifts if you aren't a powershitter is moronic 75% of the time
just do RDLs and isolate your traps and you'll mog anyone who deadlifts respectable weight

Yeah don't listen to this moron.
As soon as I started incorporating deadlifts, I blew up in terms of strength and size.

It can be, if you EAT TO GAIN MASS, moron.
Do you understand that there are boxers in weight classes from bantamweight to heavyweight, and that they don't all have the same mass because they're staying IN A WEIGHT CLASS as is the case with many powerlifters?
Trying to explain simple concepts to 90 lb. weaklings is tiresome. And you're also mad that some lanky kid can lift twice what you can, it must really suck.
