I can't even have a gym buddy if I tried, because nobody else does my combination of workout

What's your workout? If you weren't DYEL you could convince them to do whatever dumb/gay/moronicly fart huffing shit you do

I don't have to talk to people to instinctively know they don't want to do a workout that's tailored almost purely for functional strength
            >can tell nobody at my gym works in construction
            >let alone the same kind of work I do in construction
            >can tell by the way people walk and interact that none of them are interested in fighting
            >or if they are, they're not very good

~60-70% max load for 7-10 reps or to failure, as many sets as I can do that day, up to 5
All reps relatively quick, no worrying about time under tension
Focus on shoulders, back, lower back, abs, traps
Sometimes accessory work on bis, tris, and chest
Shadowboxing/technique maintenance, and heavy bag work when I bring my gloves
Usually a mile run on the treadmill at 7:30 pace, or on the bike for 10-15mins at moderate to high resistance

Also the reason I mentioned bodybuilding is because you said DYEL. I'm not going to bother to convince someone to do my routine, and muscle size has nothing to do with my routine anyway

I find that I push myself a little bit more if I have a friend because having a spotter makes me less afraid to take risks. I can push myself to failure having him spot me.

Workout partner is a huge waste of time and the only benefit as a man is being able to have some rare grounded one-on-one conversation while the endorphins are flowing.

Today I saw 4 zoomers crowd round a bench and that shit is nauseating. Just go in, get your workout in and leave. It shouldn't be a social event and working out with more than 1 other person is an absolute fricking joke.

My boss at work was talking to me about his zoomer son saying something like
      >yeah anon he's just like you he spends 3 hours at the gym!
I've never even told people I go to the gym, especially not wasting 3 hours there.
All those zoomers do is sit on equipment and watch tiktok.

I go to a shitty gym where lots of people just stand around talking and not working out. A guy was trying to befriend me, he came up to me while I was benching and asked if I wanted a spotter, I said I was good and he seemed disappointed. Was I wrong to say no?

Depends. Personally, when I workout with someone I feel like I waste more time chitchatting between sets, where as if I’m alone I am more focused on finishing my sets.

There are certain things that having a partner comes in handy though, like helping spot you to push closer to failure. But do I find extra “motivation” in having a workout partner? Not really.

This exactly. Bench and even squat spotter is really huge to push gains but you do waste time bullshitting

yes having a mate or a social circle to train with will make you progress faster. This is the real reason why people will pay 2x to train at a "strength gym", being part of a likeminded community will simply make getting stronger easier.
That said there is something about training alone that builds resilience and determination that you won't get from constantly having friends help motivate you through tough sets.

Having a gymbro who's of roughly equal or just slightly less/stronger than you is key. That and having a similar workout routine for the day and having enough equipment available. That said, I believe everyone should start out lifting alone for around a year. Can't say how many times people associate lifting with socializing with their mates and stop when their friends aren't around, happens with school sports too

A workout buddy was good for me at the start as it got me going consistantly to the gym, but I think now Id prefer just to go in, get my shit done and go. But I feel more so now Im motivating him to keep going so I just stick with our current arrangement.

By having a partner it'd be fun but at the same time it'd consume more of time inside the gym. My friends work out at different gyms or do calisthenic at their home. So I don't know.

I’m currently forcing my dad to go to the gym once a week.

Having a gym partner can help with motivation, it saves time because you can workout while they’re resting, and it allows you to have an objective set of eyes to see if your form is breaking down too much or if you’re good to increase next week.

That's right ladies...keep at the gym. Your only purpose in life is to be more frickable so maybe a sugar daddy will keep you around longer the older you get.

my one gym friend was really good about it, basically just go together but split when actually doing routines
one friend that tagged along I could tell really needed the motivation of a friend to push him along
i remember there being a "fight" kind of when i pushed for 6am because I hated the 5pm rush
we still shared a locker tho

I like having a lifting buddy, although I don't right now because I moved away from my college bros for work recently.

Having someone similar strength to me pushes me to be better, because I want to beat them. If you're competitive it helps.

Now I just have to make up scenarios in my head, pretend to be a dragonball character, and spam the gym group chat with my PRs. Much lonelier
