Yes, mogging is literally as easy as squatting heavy, eating tons of slop, and taking roids. Congrats now you can stop shaving your back, start shaving your head, become a bloated tradie linebacker dad, and drive a lifted dodge pickup.

Nope. It's the clean and jerk.

      Yes

Too technique dependent and also heavily limited by what you can clean, which the squat is not. You're not going to be developing much in the way of strength by doing clean and jerks as the bulk of your training. You'll still have to squat, do floor pulls, etc.

Fine. Take the unathletic approach. An SS specialty.

The amount of effort required to learn a c&j is completely unnecessary for anyone who isn't an olympic weightlifter. And before you go off about muh athleticisim, you can do other lifts that are just as good for athleticism that don't have such a high technical rating, for example snatch grip high pulls would be just as good but the technical rating is much lower to the point where the average gym bro can justify learning them, and would probably get more athletic from them anyway because they won't completely butcher the lift like the c&j.

You’ve drifted from the point. I’m not advocating everyone do clean and jerks, but if you look at Rips criteria for the best lift, which goes way beyond just strength, the clean and jerk is better than the squat.

The problem is that if you add the criterion of practicality, the squat wins by an immense margin simply because no one is going to invest the time and energy into practicing the c&j most days of the week when you can get similar general benefits from other movements, with the only benefit you lose being the ability to do a c&j which means nothing on its own unless you compete in olympic weightlifting. If you assume that everyone will perform every lift with perfect technique then yeah the c&j might win but this simply isn't the case, normalgays already butcher squats and deadlifts enough as it is, so in the real world the squat wins out.

              >bone density enhancement
That's any lifting that does that. Fricking jjump rope does that. Anything slightly intense does that.

As shown by the wonderful physiques of SS trainees of course
              >connective tissue stress and strength
The lift that most consistently destroys your low back and knees is surely great for your low back and knees
              >psychological demand and toughness
Here's the fake manliness shit. Women love squatting, thus it's not manly. It's gender neutral there is nothing "tough" about it.
              >overall systemic conditioning
              No cardio.

I mean just look at him.

              >The lift that most consistently destroys your low back and knees is surely great for your low back and knees
Idiots who injure themselves with their shit load management are the problem, not the exercise itself (Not that I have any love for ripplebreasts-style squats either, they still eat far too much out of your spinal erector recovery for what they're worth)
              >Here's the fake manliness shit. Women love squatting, thus it's not manly. It's gender neutral there is nothing "tough" about it.
Doing squats 20 reps from failure hardly counts, do you ever see women running super squats or smolov? The vast majority of people who actually push their squat with lots of volume and intensity are men, and if you go back 20-30 years or more pretty much the vast majority of people squatting at all were men
              >No cardio.
I would disagree here if we were talking about squats in general since high rep squats are nasty on your cardio but ripplebreasts' fahves are not going to do anything for cardio at all so I agree.
I agree to varying extents with your other points

I dislike ripplebreasts but he's right on this one, except for the fact that he's talking about his lower bar powershitter-esque squats. If he was talking about squats in general this quote would be better since high bar, front, ssb, zercher etc squats still carry those same benefits and more/less in certain areas. The squat is the king of all exercises.

Yeah. Squats are what filters gym goers. I see so many guys that are permanently in baggy long trousers, even in sweltering weather, only train arms and back, talk big game, but never squat. OHP and squat filter dyels, pull ups filter fatties. Aim for the best of both worlds. Odd how nobody ever posts young rippetoe, they only post pictures of him as a 60+ year old man.
