There’s a phenomenon amongst contemporary Normie women called “the hot girl walk” they basically flex that they’re going on a walk as a healthy habit. My question is, is walking even that good for you ? I do a lot of strength training but I don’t really do cardio. Am I missing out ?

It is, it’s just not strenuous enough to make significant gains unless they’re hiking trails.

Walking and jogging isn’t about making “gain” it’s about being more healthy.
Running just once a week doesn’t give you gains but the health benefits are transformative.
IST is not actually a fitness bird because most people here don’t regard something as IST unless it results in hypertrophy or increasing 1rm.

I used to have violent intrusive thoughts and harm thoughts for a couple months, if you don't know it's those random thoughts you have of jumping when you're in a high place or stabbing your loved ones, but constantly and for seemingly no reason. I hated life and lived in fear until I decided to go outside and join in on walks with my sister. It was probably the best cure for being afraid of every little thing in the world since you go out and realise there is very little to be afraid of. Being in nature is also just calming, since your so focused on your changing surroundings you can't ever spiral on any one thing. Unironically considered suicide at some points and doctors that I spoke to were only able to listen to me rant over the phone because of covid. Some other stuff helped, but walking outside was a big help. Thanks walks.

No, you can't count walking as activity. You're supposed to be walking literally all day just to be normal. Adding a 30-minute walk is not exercise. This is why when fatasses add walking to their routine it never does anything. It's like saying washing yourself is an achievement.

Walking are definitely amazing for you mentally and get your thoughts in order.

However there are times you might wish to listen to a podcast or audiobook just as an easy way to get through stuff you otherwise mightn't be inclined to. I admire the thoughts running free thing at times, but as some people note if they let their thoughts run free it's fricking all over. A third alternative would be to start walking with something important in mind you want to think out, like planning something so you have a goal in mind. Allowing your mind wander completely you can end up not really thinking anything at all other than maybe twitter arguments.

Every normal gay at the gym has their headphones on and blasting. So you hear annoying tinny ticking noises all timed randomly moving about the space. I tried listening to music but it was tedious to have something in my sweaty ears sloshing around. The colon is the third most underutilised punctuation mark, behind only the dash and the semicolon.

For example: "My question is: Is walking even that good for you?" Perfect opportunity for a colon, and I hate to see it missed.

Basically, whenever you are actively referencing something, you can use a colon. If you're referencing something someone is saying: "Then Anon said:". If you're referencing a question you have: "My question is:". And, evidently, if you're referencing examples of referencing where using a colon would be appropriate.

As far as your question goes, walking is a part of any balanced fitness regime. There's this thing called "the walking gait" that are only supplemented by strength training and cardio, the only way to truly train and improve it is by walking.

cant have a line break in a regular string, numbnuts. also "Return" is not the keyword, there is no capital. Also missing semicolon and Console shouldn't be capitalized either. lol is not a property on the object.

semicolons result in less errors because there are some cases where you need them because it can be ambiguous. it should all eventually be minified anyways (with semicolons) before served up to the client given that it's FE code. so avoiding semicolons technically doesn't help efficiency.

how do I use a semi colon

See above: The ideas are fairly independent, but connected enough that maybe you feel uncomfortable totally ending the sentence. Although, in fairness to Vonnegut, either a hyphen, comma, or period will always be able to substitute a semi-colon, and they don't really make much sense in terms of them being named after, but functionally unrelated to, colons.

            Anonymous

Also, speaking of, I threw out half a book because of his stupid rules for good fiction writing. I think it's better off for it, but still kind of a bummer. Basically, I had this whole build up to explain the MacGuffin, and I realised that I could really start closer to the end (one of his rules), so I threw away the background and now it just starts with a phone call about the MacGuffin that kick starts the action of the plot.

Vonnegut was far from a primadonna, and therefore I think a lot is owed not only to his humility as an author, but to Knox Burger, one of his early editors. Knox Burger, basically, was a literary agent who hated reading, so if you came to him with rambling bullshit he'd tell you to trim the fat.

Not him but you could always just use a dash instead of a semicolon. I never use semicolons as I think it can look a bit pretentious sometimes.

Yeah you are. 10 000 steps a day is the key to getting shredded. The only downside of it is that it's time consuming.
Other than that it's easy, you don't burn out. Such effortless way to add another 300-400 kcal to your deficit. Basically you don't even need to go on a diet, you can eat your "normal" TDEE then just add 10 000 steps to that to reach a solid 300-400kcal cutting deficit.

cardio is obviously and of course good for you
but moving creates an interesting effect in the brain and especially peripheral movement that suppresses your fear receptors and makes you psychologically more relaxed
so there is a less obvious benefit but any exercise with movement can do that.

Walking is literally a normal bodily function like taking a shit, it's not exercise. If your heart rate goes up from walking on level terrain then you're a fat fricking pig and you should stop fricking eating

long walks of an hour+ lead to amazing metabolic adaptations that will reduce frailty in older age and increase longevity

If you could do one thing, walking is probably the best, then you only need like 20 minutes of resistance training 3x a week to reap most of the health benefits from resistance training.

homie are you trying to gatekeep walking? The one single universal activity available to anyone with two feet?

When we say "exercise" we mean an activity done expressly for the purpose of training the body. For someone who sits down in front of a screen for 16 hours a day and then sleeps the rest, then yes, walking is now an """exercise""", but the whole point is, it really fricking shouldn't be an exercise, and that it's pathetic that it constitutes exercise for some people. Imagine being such a piece of shit that a normal bodily function is something you call exercise.

          >Yeah bro I'm about to do some training by walking to the toilet and forcing out a shit log, gotta get my exercise in for the day

Look how low we've sunk for fricking WALKING to be considered "exercise". If you're gonna call literally any activity that involves motion of the body "exercise" then the word loses meaning, which, it seems, is what morons like to do with all words and then get mad when you correct them because muh gatekeeping is bad.

            Anonymous

Nobody was talking about walking to and from a toilet you fricking moron. We were expressly talking about walking long distances.
Which is an excercise regardless of your subjective opinion on what excercise is.

            You are wrong.

              >Nobody was talking about walking to and from a toilet you fricking moron
Yes, I know. I brought it up. Sorry, I thought it was clear that I brought that up for the purpose of demonstrating how stupid the kind of reasoning that makes taking a short walk an "exercise" by taking it into a more ridiculous extreme. It might not even be that ridiculous because there are probably plenty of people whose only walking is getting up to eat and take a shit most days.

What we are talking about, in this thread, is women bragging about going for leisurely strolls, dressed up in plastic athletic clothing. And we're talking about anon (

I got rangebanned by a girl I like because she heard me say walking is not an exercise

              )
who was given the silent treatment by someone when he told them their walking was not exercise. I think we can all reasonably assume that this person who got buttblasted wasn't going on 20 mile treks. Which we'd all agree is basically exercise.

Even so, bear in mind that before we had cars and all that, people probably walked 5 to 10 miles a day, every day. Today we'd call 10 miles an exercise for sure, but in the past that would be quite normal.

Yesterday I walked about five miles, not for exercise, but because I needed to go somewhere, and my car was in the shop, and no buses went where I needed to go. I don't consider that exercise. And if we collectively do consider what is a normal and healthy amount of walking to be "exercise" then that is not a good sign. Hope you understand what I meant now

                Anonymous

                >we can all reasonably assume that this person who got buttblasted wasn't going on 20 mile treks

I'm a marathoner and also practice weighted marching, I probably should have kept my mouth shut

Even in ancient greece and rome writers like galen understood walking as an exercise. Walking up a hill is mentioned as a "strength" exercise as it will build leg muscles if you hike over varied terrain with many inclines. How it this hard to understand

              Anonymous

walking up a hill is way different than stacy and becky walking for half a mile taking photos of themselves the whole way. An exercise in narcissism, perhaps.

Not sure if you're defending the thots or arguing semantics here. I hope it's the latter because we should all agree that people celebrating a short walk is pretty moronic.

                Anonymous

I am not doing either. You said walking is not an exercise, and walking can encompass many things such as walking up hills. What the thots do is a less intense version of this exercise

What level of autism is this? Frick. What incline, added weight, distance, purpose, heart rate, weather pattern, age of the walker, or terrain constitutes exercise to you? More importantly, who gives a frick if a certain activity is counted as exercise? Just be happy that otherwise sedentary lards are doing it.

Walking is just the healthy choice over driving or taking the elevator because moving your body is a lot better for you than sitting. It’s not strenuous enough to be cardio and it’s pretty inefficient. Like you can walk and burn roughly 100kcal a mile, 3mph, without really raising your heart rate much. If you want cardio then you can run or bike, get your heart rate high, and burn the same amount of calories in less than half the time. It’s also pretty boring to walk by yourself, but if you have a friend or family member to go with then it’s a lot of fun. Hiking is different of course, every vertical foot climbed takes roughly as much energy as walking a dozen feet horizontally.

Yes, extremely. We evolved as nomads walking everywhere all the time.
    >I do a lot of strength training but I don’t really do cardio. Am I missing out ?
If you're doing no cardio at all, yes, you are. Walking in general is a great destressor and meditative on it's own, let alone the health effects. You're built to walk. Go do it.

    Walking is the best, anon.
You start out doing a few km per day, you get through the first weeks or blisters etc and settle into a groove.

Before you know it you are
    >burning a ton of calories
    >getting through lots of audio books
    >connecting with albums
    >just listening to nature
    >learning your city layout
    >exploring nearby forests and rivers
    >finding calisthenics parks surprisingly near your house
    >redefining periodically what constitutes "surprisingly near your house"
    >meditative wandering
    >sunmaxxing
    >running for a couple of km in the middle
    >going shirtless on hot days
    >getting free, steady flow of mires from teen girls whose parents forced them to go hiking
    >seeing them realise that actually hiking might be based if there are guys like anon into it

Before long you are doing 20km any given evening, and suddenly you can run 5k, then 10k, then 22k without ever training to run. Walking is unbelievably based and I wish more anons would do it.

Oh, and when you get home you have 2000 new calories to either eat or put toward your cut.
    For me, it's Walking.

You probably should do some cardio, but waddling on the street is not that great. I have been walking to and from school since the age of 6. We are talking an hour of walking ~8000 steps a day for ~15years. My university is an hour away, so now-a-days I walk 2 hours ~15000 steps a day.
What do I have to show for it? Hardly anything. Mostly developed calves, and I will admit everything below the belt feels and functions great, but believing that starting today 30mins of walking is going to do wonders for your body is wrong unless you are an absolute lardass.

Walking is barely an exercise and all it does for me now is minimal mental benefits
