Read a summary of it. That goes for all self-help books, don't waste your time.

      This.

Self-help books could easily be summarized but they know nobody is going to pay $40+ for a page or two of advice.

      This.

Self-help books could easily be summarized but they know nobody is going to pay $40+ for a page or two of advice.

Not to shill, but the benefit of a book like this is to allow for more expansive examples than a brief article can muster. That can help clear up misconceptions or confusions on how the topics can be applied.
However in the modern age you only need to search for 5 minutes to find a free copy, and generally reading something is better than not.

      whats the tl;dr of it?

has a point. "Self-help" is full of bullshit, but the good ones really add a lot of value with the stories and examples. Simple exposition is never enough to really learn a principle, you need the "in the trenches" stories to elaborate on what the basic ideas really mean.

tl;dr make a bunch of small easy changes to your habits over time to get the results you want.

There’s more talked about that’s interesting but that’s the meat of it. Would recommend the audiobook format if you aren’t a reader but you are still curious.

Make good habits more visible (wanna practice guitar more? Put that b***h somewhere you will always come across it during the day. Read more? Put a book on your pillow in the AM), easier (don’t try to read the whole thing in one night, start out slow with like a page or a chapter a night, build up—- same rule applies to all other good habits I.e don’t run a marathon to start, something as small as going for a 2 min walk is enough to start) make them fun / rewarding. #1 is the be consistent even if you can only do a small version of the good habit.

Make the habit part of your identity. You are more likely to maintain it (I.e. I am a bodybuilder) once you believe that’s who you are, then working out isn’t a chore, it’s just a thing you obviously do cause you’re a bodybuilder.

Make bad habits more difficult. Watch too much TV? Put that mother fricker away when you’re not using it. Yeah that sounds awful but you’ll definitely be less likely to watch tv if you gotta go through the hassle of lugging it out of the closet every time you want to watch.

Some other shit. I do sincerely think it’s worth it. I’ve read several books like this and I can honestly say this one is the best.

The advice is literally JUST FRICKING DO IT
that's the advice that all self help books are. It's all crap. You already know what you have to do. You already know that if you want to build a habit you have to fricking do it. You dont need a book to tell you that. You alreayd know that if you want to break a habit you have to stop doing it. You reading this book is just procrastination.

Until there's a self help book that tells you how to do it without having to do it they're all useless
