nice projection but you inadvertently present a nice question nonetheless, do your perceived merits matter after all when you biologically differ from the rest of humans and can't transfer your way of being on a leveled playing field
Hey Magnus come climb this wall with me bro it'll be fun
I doubt he's biologically that different, its more that the life he's lived has broken his amygdala. When you constantly stress and train that part of the brain naturally it takes more for him to feel fear. Same way that if you're a porn addict for a long enough period of time it will take more to make you horny, so you get into more depraved shit. Same concept, he's climbed so much scary shit the only way he can experience fear is to risk his life.
I have no real stock in this debate, but he has literally said in interviews that extreme fear and paranoia about falling and dying has flooded his mind while soloing before. He took like 7 years to prep for his el cap solo specifically to avoid that happening as best as he could.
his brain is genuinely broken. does it allow him to do amazing feats? yes, but it's not a matter of willpower or "presence" or whatever bullshit, it's that he is physically incapable of experiencing fear. it'd be like if you saw some freak of nature free diver who can hold their breath for ten minutes and you said "yeah it's just that he doesn't let the fear of drowning get to him bro, it's all about the mental fortitude"
The climbs that he free solos are routes that he's practiced so much he can do it blindfold.
It's about as hard for him to free solo as it is for you to walk down the street, but if you step off the sidewalk you die. It's scary because of the zero failure tolerance but he's purely in his comfort zone.
Also it's actually easier to climb without any safety equipment weighing you down so he becomes even more comfortable with his skills
This. He’s probably capable of doing a v14 boulder problem and can probably flash anything below v8 and the stuff he free solos is like a v3-v4. Which isn’t to say it’s no impressive he took Magnus with him once who’s probably a better climber and he was freaked out the entire time.
He’s not -that- great of a bouldering actually. (I mean yeah he is but not compared to his lead)
The wall he climbed in V grade is V9 I think, and his best climb I think is like V16-17. But the difference there is huge so in a way yeah, v9 is a breeze for him. Especially when he’s practiced so much.

you are genuinely fricking stupid and don't even know anything about the guy whose wiener you're sucking, if you even watched the meme documentary that made him famous you would know that he is a literal sperg that, from a young age, would do stupid shit for thrills because it was impossible for him to get scared, and this is entirely self admitted

I see this comment every fricking time anyone posts about Alex Honnold anywhere and it's fricking infuriating how smooth brain all you morons are.
>BRO THEY SCANNED HIS BRAIN >They showed him spooky images while scanning his brain >He wasn't afraid of the spooky images guys >The 65 year old grandmas in the sample size were afraid but not Alex Honnold >HE DOESN"T FEEEL FEEAR
I hate you morons so much.
He feels fear about the same as any other rational human being. He worked on El Cap for over a year before he free soloed it. He has done the route over a hundred times with ropes and has memorized every single move on the route. He's not afraid because he is confident in his abilities and knows the stone. This risk of him falling to his death is no greater than you dying in a car wreck in mildly inclimate weather.

That’s why the dude from the alpinist was so much more impressive. He would free solo routes he had never climbed before with climbing axes and the routes would
Be mixed ice/rock. Fricking bonkers.
He’s done the climb so many times he knows it like the back of his hand, it’s also (to him) not a very difficult climb.
Say you bench 1pl8 1rm. You can do a shitload of bar only benches right? You’re not ever afraid of failing a rep on the bar? So why would there be a fear response when you lift the bar? Oversimplified ofc
He has another free solo of half dome where he has an actual moment of panic, where they suggest he turn back around (it’s on a ledge so I think they could have secured him if needed)
>expecting some demoralizing gay comments, he's just mentally ill, his brain is different, don't give him any credit >already posted it
classic, you'll never be anything loser, don't try to bring everyone else down to your level
He took another elite climber on an either 200 or 600 feet cliff I don’t recall which and coerced him to climb it without rope and he was scared for his life the entire time. Alex kept saying “this next part is great” and it just kept getting worse like this black rock section which was supposed to be fantastic but black rocks in the Las Vegas sun? They must’ve been pretty hot to the touch which means not only are your hands starting to burn but they’re sweating too.
Yeah when that stupid bugman director thanked Shani for her contribution and that the documentary would have been boring without her I was just thinking “yeah, cause most of the documentary was focused around boring shit no one cares about you moronic frick”
They easily had enough footage for a whole doc on just the climb, then all they had to do was throw in a bunch of backstory, some Tommy, some other free soloers, etc. I didn’t watch a climbing documentary on the most impressive physical feat in recorded history to watch some blonde Thot cry and make it all about her
this is alex honnold, his amygdala dont work, he psycho on rocks lmao
He maintains total presence, he doesn’t allow anxiety about failure to distract him from the proximate climbing necessary to scale the cliff.
Meanwhile you’re too anxious to say hi to the gym receptionist even though you practiced it in your head 100 times.
its easier for him to free clim than me to pick up a 7/10

Better at what

Good for him.
Hey Magnus come climb this wall with me bro it'll be fun
Kek that was one of the most dick moves I've ever seen
>come on bro
>it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
Come on bro, you're experienced, I've seen you clear harder grades than me haha
some explain this joke?

Honnold did a vid recently with magnus where he takes him free soloing and magnus is v uncomfortable
Alex holding the wall with one hand the whole time to make sure he has a clear shot with the camera of magnus if he slips
>rock climber
More like wiener climber lmao
Best post on IST in years
>ahhhhhhhh immma foooooooooooooooooooooollllllliiiiinnnnnnnnn!!!!
The documentary is so boring, it's 90% he arguing with his b***h and 10% for the free solo
Yeah when that stupid bugman director thanked Shani for her contribution and that the documentary would have been boring without her I was just thinking “yeah, cause most of the documentary was focused around boring shit no one cares about you moronic frick”

Cool, what he did was very impressive
Not according to these anons. It’s like bench pressing 1 plate apparently.
It’s like benching 1pl8 when you’re a 4pl8 bencher for hours and if you fail a single rep you die
for sure bro it’s like being a Chad and pulling an ugly girl. nothing to brag about
It’s like flirting with an 5/10 and if she turns you down you’d die fro. Most people wouldn’t dare take the chance.
Dude from “the alpinist” absolutely MOGS
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Another gay dyel that dyels worship sad life
How come IST never talks about climbing? Climbing is so gratifying.
>Get to be in nature.
>See waterfalls and big mountains.
>Isn't boring like hiking
>Problem solve and test your limits of endurance and strength.
My favorite way to work out.
Because there’s a dedicated climbing general on extreme sports and because most of IST are too fat to climb.
>the greatest athletic feat of all time.
Lol, lmao even.
Kipchoge is laughing his ass somewhere.
>Widely considered

Post his body?
Post this where somebody gives a frick

Can't wait till he falls
