    If you really wanted to make this thread did you need to screen shot some literal who? Could you not have just said "how much does genetics play into obesity?" Frick you and Jay

    Funny how this totally genetic and unavoidable trait only suddenly showed up about 30 years ago in the US and got more and more prevalent every year since then.

      This is the only argument needed. No need for giant walls of text. Food was just as available then as it is now, and likely moreso considering up to the year 2000 we were in an unprecedented budget surplus, low inflation, and wealth boom. Then suddenly the dot-com bubble burst and our genetics kicked in and got us fat? lel

    If you were to give everyone in America the same calories per bodyweight, it would be extremely obvious that obesity is heritable. Your genetics condition what happens to excess food intake.

    This is reinforced by the fact that food habits are broadly a familial affair (as opposed to being peer-mediated, like aesthetic tastes are).

    But this moron ignores that NOBODY can be obese without the calories to do so. Put a fatty on a water-and-vitamins diet and they'll lose weight, fast.

    Obesity advocates seem to think that, when it comes to being fat, the human body has some ability to deny the fundamental laws of thermodynamics, all while maintaining that this is genetic. They seem to think that their bodies are hardwired to commit acts of black magic against them.

    Yes obesity is inheritable - IQ and impulse control is absolutely based on genetic factors. But building the willpower to fight these base urges is not, it is in the power of all people. Today's society is simply weak and decadent, neutered with the crushing oppression of both systemic narcissism and bureaucratic social control in all aspects of life. The vast majority of fat people today would be within a normal BMI 60 years ago, with the same genetics - we had vitality then, a real functional culture, not this fake and fricking gay rigged trash world.

    yet another lazy fatass that thinks they're immune to thermodynamics, great.

    heritability is not genetics. Historically the tendency to wear earrings is heritable since women wear earrings. So it COULD be the case that obesity is heritable, even if the obesity is itself not genetics but rather if there was an genetic explanation for why some people are lazy worthless fricks. The latter half of that tweet is indefensible though. Any worthwhile academic commenting on the obesity epidemic needs to acknowledge the amount of insane energy we're consuming and the insane lack of movement people are experiencing.

    Seems there's no way around it then, we must force every obese fatty through a diet gauntlet and those that can't lose weight due to their genetic burden are publically starved to death in football stadiums, after all we desperatley need the money wasted on the genetically obese for trans-healthcare

    I don't understand all these fatties who say that they inherited obesity. Where were all these obese ancestors?

    Nature =/= nurture

    Like how being poor is hereditary as well, yeah I agree. Not in the sense of biology mind you, just starting out with such shit parents and older influences in life is clearly going to set you up to follow that path as well. You can overcome it, just like genetics, but it's too hard for most people. Or even just not something that a person thinks to try.
    Cultural genetics, if you will.

    Demonstrably false since obesity wasn't an issue prior to like 1990. However, having a shitty lifestyle and raising kids in a shitty lifestyle is extremely common
