I mean, you are literally starving all the time unless you find edible berries or mushrooms, and even if you find some it would be an inadequate amount to keep yourself sustained, so yes you would lose weight you fricking idiot

      >In the end, Thibeault lasted 73 days in the Arctic, being the runner-up in season six.
      >Thibeault says another reason she dropped out was because she had lost 50 pounds, which was 33% of her body weight. "I had a medical check later that day and I was fairly certain I was going to be pulled because I was so under weight, but I wanted it to be my choice."

Most of the contestants on this survival show catch like one fish or kill one bird a month and mostly subsist on shitty mushrooms and berries they forage. The point is they operate on a calorie deficit for the vast majority of the show, it's not rocket science.

I thought if you eat significantly less calories than usual your metabolism will slow so you won't lose anything anymore.

No, the calorie difference is like 200 at most. The lower your weight the less calories you need to sustain yourself but its like 500 calorie difference between a 200lb man and a 100lb one.

Berries and mushrooms are pretty low in calories yes.

Also she looks better after, because of lost weight or because removal of ugly makeup? Maybe I have fetish for Grugelina

Berries contain sugar so no. Mushrooms are high in protein, she probably just ate mushrooms and lifted logs and boulders in the wilderness.

    >But how she ended up lost in the first place is curious, and neither she nor police explained on Thursday morning. Police do say she was with two men she had recently met, when one of the men allegedly burglarized a cabin. How she got from their company to the woods she would not say, and much of it she says she doesn't remember.

How do you get lost for 28 DAYS in an area with this many roads. I mean. This entire map I copied is only 140 x 85 km.
Did she literally just stay in the same 10 by 10 km or something for almost 30 days?

apparently she's legally blind, but judging by the sparse information about the matter she must also be a nutcase. The article also talks about 'dense forests' but then why does she look like she's been frying under the sun in a desert?

If thats true, then I sympathize.
Seems sketchy though.. she doesnt seem blind in a video I saw of her. Showing the interviewer her walking stick and talking about how happy she was when she "saw" the road.

          >Legal blindness occurs when a person has central visual acuity (vision that allows a person to see straight ahead of them) of 20/200 or less in his or her better eye with correction. With 20/200 visual acuity, a person can see at 20 feet, what a person with 20/20 vision sees at 200 feet.
she isn't necessarily completely blind, just extremely near-sighted

Yeah it does seem moronic though a total novice can walk in what they think is a straight line, but really be walking in circles, you will turn very slightly in the direction of your dominant side

    >50lbs after 73 days
So, she was basically eating 0 calories and only survived because she was fat. 2k a day for a 5'2 chick times 73 divided by 3500 (pound of fat) equals 41 pounds. So she basically only survived because she was overweight. These people aren't "survivng" on berries, they're fasting for a month, the berries don't add any calories.

      >the berries don't add any calories.
I've found wild berry bogs with easily 40 lbs fresh berries in them. That's 9600 calories, which is nothing to sneeze at.

I live in a big swamp about 100 miles from where this happened. Dew berries and the related brambles grow very thick. Sometimes in big giant walls and carpets of them. So yeah you could eat yourself sick on brambles.. but in July/August? That's too late in the year and they are mostly played out by then.

However the wild grapes scuppernong and Muscadine etc. grow in big walls too. And they are ripe around July/August. The problem is that from year to year they are either on or off. Some years you could harvest 100s of pounds of them in other years not a one. Like last year after that late hard frost we had almost none. Maybe a hundred miles over though it was different.

Also let's mention the Beauty Berry. It grows in big giant thickets and it is technically edible and would probably be in their prime during July idk if they have any nutritional value though..

Only other berry I can think of that you could find in any quantity is Sugar Berry from the hackberry family. Also wild highbush and blueberry is a thing- wild varieties like shiny blueberry etc. but in my experience they aren't super common. The grapes and brambles though are like store bought quality though and they are in obnoxious quantities.

Honestly that region of the United States is like survival easy mode. Between the naturalized pecan, thick hickory growth, spring and summer berries, grapes, wild persimmon, bull rush, mayhaw... You'd never have trouble living in the woods any time of year. You'd just have to tolerate the heat and bugs.

Alabama is extremely rural but it isn't a fricking wilderness lol. There is a big difference. I mean even in the more remote places you are never going to be far from the occasional houses, roads, farms, maybe even small towns etc.

You'd have to be literally moronic to get lost out there for more than about 48 hours imho. Also let's say you were in a giant nature preserve that was like 20k acres.. soubds like a lot but you could walk out of that in like a day or two
