>Mom says her apartment complex has a gym
>Okay cool
>squat day at gym
>this gym doesn't have clamps to secure plates to the bar
>Warm up
>Plates on the left side move a bit but not a problem
>Load up to full weight
>As I'm about to go down feel left plates slip off and nearly twist my arm
>Plates land on my water bottle and it explodes
>Can't lift anything beyond 1 pl8 without putting myself in danger
Bros this universe doesn't want me to make it. Gonna have to go 2 weeks without proper barbell lifts

If you had proper form you wouldn't need clips.

Place doesn't even have a mirror in close proximity so I can't check if the bar is placed on me evenly

Go to the sports store and buy a set of clips.

Take a roll of gray tape along to use it for securing the plates

Think I'll do some substitutions for squats. Deadlifts, bp, and ohp are still fair game but squats are too risky

Don't squat in front of a mirror. You should be focused on physical feedback and proprioception, not looking at your reflection for visual feedback.

I hate gyms that have mirrors in front of squat racks, it keeps people small and weak.

Do your eyes look like pic related or something? You do not need a mirror either.

If you can't squat without safeties you're egolifting

It's funny cause I squat with a home gym and almost never have to use clamps. The weight just stays solid on it. Maybe it's cause I use steel plates?

If the gym has a deep belt do weighted full rom push-ups. In general, do the weighted calisthenics equivalent if you don't have the equipment for a lift.
