Voluntary Discomfort

Do you subject yourself to voluntary discomfort? If so, in what ways? I've personally started doing the following:
>Cold Showers
>Switching to a flip phone
>Sleeping on the floor

I'm interested in adding more to this list, looking for ideas based on what others are doing

I spend a lot of time outdooras during the summer for work. Dont use air conditioning if you are already warmed up from a day of work. After a shower is acceptable, but Ill spend all day in 100f heat and then just drive home windows down no AC. Feels good

Ah yeah, if I didn't have roomates something I'd like to do is only keep my house above the minimum temperature so the pipes don't burst, I don't use AC in my car during the summer either, all windows down plus sunroof everytime

Turn off the AC and open a window. In the humid summers of the Northeast, it's hell on some days.
During the winter, I'll leave my windows open and wear shorts.
    Cold showers, of course.
Denying myself basic comforts from new shoes to varied meals.

Sleeping on the floor with only thin cotton fabrics for bedding allows your body to “ground” itself allowing for a much more comfortable sleep. Animals do the same thing in order to balance the magnetism of their bodies, humans can’t really and don’t do this often because of shoes and rubber surfaces. Touch the ground, it’ll make you feel better.

I work in electronics with a direct connection to ground most of the day, it is pseudoscience. Or placebo.

          Which is more likely:
          >feels good to walk bare footed because its a new and novel experience, also what 99% of our ancestors did, therefore its p much in our genes
          OR
          >feels good to walk bare footed because of some frequencies and signals the earth is sending you through your feet

I do my grocery shopping with a bike and trailer over using my car on days it isn't raining. I'd do it in the rain if it wasn't an actual hazard to my life with the way people drive.

    Why yes I do

    >still don't drive a car because I'm too anxiety-filled, which negatively affects most aspects of my life like my main hobby
    >still live with parents which I hate but too self-conscious to let others see my pathetic life
    >have horrific job I want to kms every day going to but too anxiety-ridden and lacking confidence to try to get a job

Do these count as voluntary discomfort? I'm 30 lol.

      >voluntary discomfort?
Nope, it's involuntary discomfort due to you not wanting to get out of your comfort zone. Get therapy, get fit, touch grass, have sex, etc, etc, etc

No lol that’s clearly just staying in your comfort zone and then mistaking how much you hate yourself for it as you being outside of your comfort zone

Not that anon. You aren't doing anything discomforting because you aren't pushing any boundaries.

no they don't count, they're problems you need to deal with. The other stuff are decisions that fit outside the norm of what one might do.

You've never had a car, moved out, gotten a good job, so thats just the fricking norm, you don't have another baseline. Making literally any decision to change that would put you on the board or at least make you somewhat human.

It would be nice if I wasn't severely mentally ill and could get the motivation, confidence, and courage to do even a single solitary thing.

If you keep waiting for motivation, confidence, and courage to do even a single solitary thing to come to you, it won't. It hasn't come in your 30 years of life up until this point.

If YOU don't find the confidence, motivation and courage within yourself, you won't get it.

And you can get therapy for your mental health, along with ancillary stuff like exercise and meditation.

I think that's the biggest problem, I can't make the confidence motivation and courage come. I've been a loser my entire life. I really don't have anything to look forward to or any goals to want to attain...

You can make it come, you just don't know how to it yet. There are many, many resources online that you can search, like "how to get discipline" "guide to self-improvement" etc, etc.

You as a human can do it, and the resources are there. As the horse, it is your call to drink the water or not.

When people say make yourself uncomfortable they do not mean sleep on a floor with no blanket.
