Ive never understood what this is supposed to be working or how much resistance is appropriate

Full body cardio / conditioning focusing on your legs, back and a little arm involvement.
Enough resistance that you need to strain a bit (until you get it moving) but not enough that you can't keep rowing for 5+ minute's

Cardio. Also, the harder you pull, the more resistance it offers if you have a decent machine. Rowing machine, boxing, and jump rope are the 3 forms of cardio I find the most fun

    Why?
    >want to row
go outside and row a boat
    >want to row with more load
    I like chest supported rows.
Okay, if you want to row and imagine you are in a boat this might work, but I think the resistance is too little.

I have a hard time understanding what
I'm supposed to be getting out of this. Is it just an endurance run? How long should I be on this fricking thing?

Focus on 35-40 strokes a minute. Resistance 3 or 4 is water, I like 5. Set a meter you are trying to reach. 2km would be a good warm up. It's endurance training.

This is solid advice except for the stroke rate. Regattas are rowed at 30+spm, if you're new, 24spm is a good place to start.
16-20ish spm is good for focusing on your form/technique, 22-28 spm is good for actual workouts

    2k PR is 7:20 (1:50/500m) but I haven't tested it in a few months.
5k PR is 19:20 (1:56/500m) as of yesterday.

Y'all're doing the Pete Plan, right?

30+ stroke rate for someone without a solid grasp of form seems unwise.

I do the format of the Pete plan but his sprints and interval workouts are we todd did.
      I still do
      >steady state
      >sprint
      >steady state
      >interval
      >steady state
      >aerobic distance
      >rest
      Though. The outline is solid

I enjoy the interval workouts a lot. What issue do you have with them? At first I was skeptical of the rest times but I think the boost per interval is really worth it.

    Does anyone row 10ks?
What stroke rate should I shoot for?
Rowing while watching movies right before bed has been really fun for me.

I used to row 10k's back in high school.
I liked starting slow and ramping it up every thousand.
Tbh I always hated them though. I felt like i always got more out of 6k's and 2k's, or HIIT blasters (1min on, 1min off)

I do 3 12ks a week on my skierg at a 36 stroke pace so that’s probably equivalent to about a 22 spm on a row

You should watch some youtube videos on how to row. There is now way an adult male should ever row that slow on a 2 mile piece. That’s like mom on a skierg pace
