the problem with fitness is that the longer you do it the more muscle you have and the more protein you need so the more protein powder you use. You actually grow IN to consuming more protein powder.

Once you have a decent kitchen and a wife who can make you chicken breast it's just not necessary.

      Typical protein powder consooomer:
      >Lives in dorms, parent's basement or shares apartment with roommates
      >Has limited storage space for food-storing 10 lbs of chicken breasts would be a challenge
      >Has limited cleanup and prep options- using an oven or range is burdensome on roommates or creates mess roommates won't like
      >Is burdened by going to the grocery store - is the sole person making grocery purchases, has limited car access options, has a rigid class or work schedule that makes going to the grocery store a challenge.
      >Fell for the anabolic window meme
      >Pretends like they're a bodybuilder and need the absolutely greatest amount of protein per calorie - still turns around and eats carbs and fat without weighing it

35 now, have been lifting since I was 20.

I have stopped doing all the shit I did in my 20s. None of it is necessary, but you feel FOMO in the moment and that if you don't do everything perfectly that you wont make gains or that you'll lose gains, turns out its all bullshit.

So long as you lift with intensity, do a decent amount of volume + eat meat and vegetables, you'll make gains. This having to hit X amount of protein, X amount of calories, or take A,B,C,D,E,F,G etc supplements, is all bullshit.

Younggays here wont listen though, I know when I was a younggay I wouldn't have listened either. When you're in your early 20s you're terrified of missing out on gains so you'll do everything you possibly can even if older guys with experience like me will tell you none of it is required to achieve your goals.

as a 34 year old back into lifting after a few years off and making back all my old gains with your exact methodology, for 95% of the population you're right. the people i see at the gym who are there every night and aren't making progress are the ones who do a half-ass set and sit on their phone for 10 minutes before attempting another, or the people who get anxious and forget that building muscle is 60% rest and 40% working out so they overanalyze everything as if they were a pro athlete

also, i blame men's health. i used to read it until i realized that it's the same shit every single month

This is extremely good advice. 24 yo right now. 5'9 185lbs lean (sub 15% bf).

3-4 good workouts a week, meat, veggies, carbs adjusted based on goals, 7+ hours of sleep non-negotiable and you're gonna grow like a weed.

Yeah pretty much. The way you look is, more or less, an indicator of what kind of lifestyle you have, transitions can last anywhere between 1-5 years, but only 10% of that will be looking like a guy with a formerly good lifestyle who's let themselves go, the rest is still just you as a lardmonger, regardless of how hard you're trying not to be.

Minmaxing this stuff is pretty much stupid, unless you're doing competitions where marginal advantages would be meaningful to people.

Yeah, it's dumb, although I kinda do like liquid breakfasts and the like, in a world where 100 IQ is 130 in ours, liquid breakfasts are the only available protein supplements, and they're only purchased because someone overslept.

protein powders are very expensive where i live more so than their whole foods counterpart, so for me it was about the time when i moved out of my parents house, it's more cost effective for me to buy a few dozen eggs and pounds of chicken breast than say a couple pounds of whey, albeit being less convenient to consume and/or carry around (preparation, cooking etc)

Strange. Whey is cheapest protein available here so you save money on it.

Some people don't seem to understand that protein shakes are a supplement. You have them when you think that normal meals throughout the day don't give you enough macros, but you are too lazy or tired or full to have an extra meal.

I ran out like a year ago and decided I will just see how it affects my gains if I keep diet the same and just don't add any shakes and nothing changed. To be fair, I consume a large amount of meat every day. Then I reduced the protein in my diet, too, and still, nothing changed. I would say I am still getting 150g most days, but sometimes probably a bit less.
