I got a bunch of rocks and boulders for no more than the price of gas to drive them home. It was difficult digging them up but worth it. It's hard to get it in your head that this is a good way to lift but it is once you develop lifts for them. The only barbell I do anymore is power cleans.

200lbs 11reps of 5 sets is "ego lifting"?
Bruh, progressive overload. As you progress, you will naturally squat more than you can curl, bench, etc. Your legs are much stronger than your arms. If you only squat what you can curl, bench, etc. You'll just be doing cardio with how many reps you can do. It might be fine for a begginer, but as you progress for half a year you should really have moved on to heavier squat weights.
And YES, you DO, need progressively heavier weights to build bigger legs.
The only thing I can imagine is you're coming from being obese, so your body squat weight is 300lbs, so as you cut the muscles from having to squat that much weight start showing. Asides that, you're going to have really fricking imbalanced body.
Idk about you, but when I started, the highest weight I could move with my arms was 15 fricking lbs. My starting squat was about 90. If I only squatted 30lbs, I would be doing infinite squats. Which, because I started off with ONLY dumbells, I fricking tried, it isn't optimal at all and resulted in almost no growth. I could reach 30lbs in each arm as I progressed those, but my squats were stagnating as I was basically doing fricking cardio 60lb squats.
Theres a pretty large correleation between strength, and muscle size, at a low enough weight below your one rep max you no longer can no longer overload and are simply doing endurance training.

You’re an idiot. I’ve seen YouTube videos where people build squat racks with some lumber, buckets, and concrete. A 300 lb weight set with bar BRAND NEW is only like $350 at Dick’s and probably way cheaper if you search for a DYEL who gave up and is selling their set.

Post body right now I can tell you don't lift. The fricking Dicks setup is some standard bar with a 200lb capacity meant for little girls. Do you even know the cost of lumber? That shit doesn't even save you money after you buy the drills and molds and shit. Plus it makes a frick huge mess every workout when the concrete starts chipping off. I will gladly take a $10 a month payment to workout somewhere with real equipment, not mudhut African gear.

Jesus Christ this post pisses me off. It's the equivalent of saying the gym is worthless because you can do push ups and sit ups at home.

              Anonymous

I mean, he's right, I'd be pissed off from your bullshit too. Lumber is fricking expensive, you're overpaying for a shitty setup you can buy for the same price at a sports shop.
Also, fatties saying its ok to squat with barbells, for a begginer sure, but average begginer squats much much more than they can curl. Unless you're a 300lb fatty who's body weight alone is enough to overload the muscle by simply moving around and squatting, you're going to need much more weight than your arms can hold to build muscle there. Its like a 1 to 5 ratio difference in strength between those muscle groups. I started lifting with my obese friend, I was coming from the opposite end of the spectrum on anorexic (not nervosa you morons, learn the fricking difference) skelly. He couldn't do a single body weight squat, but on the bench press he could do more than what I could do on it. Made me realize, dude's moving around 300lb weights CONSTANTLY while I'm moving around air practically. If the dude could squat a single body weight squat, he'd build leg muscle, because unlike me, he's squatting 300lbs of weight, I would've been squatting 110lbs of weight. You NEED weights to progress muscle if you're not obese, if you ARE obese, thats the only case shitty barbells would work or body weight exercises like that, you're just so fat everything you do is already weighted to overload.

The Planet Fitness business model works by actively antagonizing the kinds of clients who will actually consistently use the place. They want the kinds of clients who will buy a membership and not really show up.

They hide behind being "non-judgemental and accessible to everyone," but it's the opposite. If you actually lift heavy, they will call you a lunkhead and accuse you of "intimidating" the other gymgoers. They do this because if you lift heavy, you're likely the kind of person who will use their gym membership instead of paying for it while only occasionally going.

But that's just in general. Not every PF is like that. Each manager can run their location as they see fit, so you can find PFs that are actually normal gyms. But this is the approach they are known to have in general.

      Anonymous

That's right. Monthly auto transactions from clients bank accounts, punish people who regularly show up and use equipment, söy mask sperm butt workers, make it as unpalatable as possible. They are hucksters who use their gym to prey on people who want to get in shape and think going once every 2 weeks is good.
