What are some good example of pre-steroid era physiques?

What are some good example of pre-steroid era physiques? I'm a high school teacher and a lot of my students ask me natty or not type questions about instagram and youtube fake natties. I want to give them some realistic examples of the natty limit, so no one after testosterone was synthesized in 1935.

    John Grimek is the GOAT

John Grimek literally took steroids atleast starting from 1954. He was one of the test subjects for the development of Dianabol.

      >"Returning to America, Ziegler tried weak doses of testosterone on himself, on the American trainer Bob Hoffman and on three lifters, John Grimek, Jim Park and Yaz Kuzahara. All gained more weight and strength than any training programme would produce, but there were side-effects."

He would have been over 40 at the time

Yes but do you think he wasn't using other drugs before then? I mean really, there wasn't some like "natty vs non-natty" time then, guy probably took whatever he could get his hands on to improve his physique.

I've persued the topic, but the problem for what you're looking for is that frauding has always been done. Some of Sandow's most famous photos were taken after periods of brutal dieting, enhanced with liberal use of cocaine, and then touched up. Literally in Sandow's case: his muscles were made more noticable with an artist''s brush. This also goes without bringing up Voronoff's monkey testicle operations, which would be a great topic for your class. IIRC, baseball players were having them done in the early 20th century. Modern medicine claims they did nothing however.

Ron Walker was a brilliant weightlifter, from the last Olympics before modern anabolics dropped, with an exceptional physique. He wasn't a midget either. For more google 'Bob Hoffman' and look who he featured pre-WW2, Grimek being the obvious. For more go to the Sandow Plus website. Pandour has a freakish body and he was photographed at the turn of the 20th century.

      >no one after testosterone was synthesized in 1935

Not true. Test took a while to 'make it big'. My reading has led me to believe that test didn't hit largethe ground running until around, IIRC, 1942. Before that it was very expensive to source from animals. However, by 1945 it was used EVERYWHERE. The British army were giving it to their on POWs to put weight back on them, Hollywood stars were taking it, big-selling books were written calling it the 'elixer of life', etc. Basically how HGH is no longer a BBing secret and now known by everyone.

Various forms of other substances which today would be considered "not-natty" have been in use for a much longer time. There are all sorts of various doping going on in the 19th century, how well some of it worked is questionable. Did the alleged "testosterone boosters" of the time actually raise test? Who knows. Did the various opiates or stimulants improve performance, I am sure some of them did. Was there some medication or plant that people would take that cause a change in some hormones, maybe.

Of course anabolic steroids opened a new pandoras box, but the demand for doping has always been.

Test was not "everywhere" except for rich people lol, are you telling me John Ziegler didn't know (despite being USA weightlifting team doctor) that test was an easy way to get huge? He didn't even figure that shit out until 1954, real injectable test for muscle building was simply rare until the 1950s and largely relegated to west coast lifters only

He’s one of the few I’d believe as I’ve watched countless interviews with him and there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s on the spectrum.

      >The nickname The Shadow was given to Dorian Yates in 1986 (four years before his pro debut) as a means of symbolizing his low profile existence, augmented by his sporadic contest appearances, wherein he emerged to decimate the hopes of his peers before departing the stage and returning to his private lair in Birmingham, England.

He is 21, he only started training bodybuilding in the gym then. It's not his first time training though, he was playing sports before and was working out in prison.

Ronnie Coleman says something similar about starting training bodybuilding late, but he was training in power-lifting all through high school.

Dorian claims he got on gear in 1985 already for his first show.
