They are okay depending which one you get to get more detailed info but they don't really provide you with much you don't already know.
So right now I just use a pedometer on my phone while jogging which estimates calorie burn based on my height/weight. I'm thinking of getting a watch to better track that in addition to heart rate, sleep, etc. Any recommendations on models?
Fitbit and Samsung watch both will provide that and are good devices. I also recommend the e80/e88 if you want something cheaper that provides pretty much the same info and you don't have to pay to use the app where fitbit/samsung on top of getting the watch you gotta pay in the app to access more stats. Just check to make sure you like wearing the band and the watch itself is a size you like. I have a samsung watch that is hella big so I don't like wearing it so I usually use a fitbit or an e80. I also have an oura ring which I do like the app and stats it gives but it is also my least favorite to wear
If you want/need GPS capabilities get a cheap Garmin forerunner for like $100. It provides extra metrics like cadence, "live" pace, and stride length which can be interesting if not truly needed. The app is fairly simple and free as well.
I sometimes fall asleep at a random times at night, it's nice to know the actual time and length.
The samsung one is better.

I do a lot of running and swimming so I decided to buy an Apple Watch (inb4 hurr goy) and I love it. I started viewing my body as an RPG character where I need to max out the stats.

Pretty much useless. It sucks at tracking calories burnt, you can always look at a map to see how far you walked/ran and they don’t look as good as regular watch. All the people I know that have smart watch are dyels who do barely any physical activity.

Depends on what you want from it. I have mi band 3, I used to use it in workouts to track time between sets but using timer on phone is way better. For cardio it can be useful. The main feat that I like is that I use timer and chronometer while cooking etc., and if I can't find my phone it's really easy to locate it with the watch(if in range). My mi band also goes 20+ days between charging, so a smartwatch seems pretty gay in comparison
They are useful. From what I've read the apple watch undercounts calories so you can eat back calories it says you burn on it. My current cut is easy af because of that.
Used an apple watch 7 for a while but it sucked. Spotify is a hassle to use and it tracks like shit

The only worthwhile ones are from Polar. Most accurate sleep tracking algorithm, most accurate heart rate monitor and option to sync a chest strap where a lot of others are wildly inaccurate, and a good app which matters because that’s really how you use the device. Most importantly, no wifi connection and you can change the Bluetooth connection for a manual info transfer to your phone once a week. Almost all other brands have wifi that you sometimes can’t switch off.

You are right it’s accurate when used in combination with chest strap, but who really is doing that. (Apple Watch is also just as accurate as this with heart rate with only a watch).

HUAWEI = Best Heart rate for android users
Fitbit = best sleep tracker (but heart rate is shit)
The issue is there is none that do everything well out on the market. If you want to focus just on fitness and heart rate things you should get a Apple Watch or Huawei, if you want a sleep tracker you get a Fitbit. If you get anything like polar(without chest strap)/garmin/xiaomi/amazfit they have significant problems in all fields. Sure a Garmin may have a better sleep tracker than HUAWEI and a better heart rate tracker than a Fitbit, but it still does a poor job at both.

Your awareness of your own body is a better measure of exertion than a heart rate monitor. How well rested you feel in the morning is a better indication of sleep quality than a piece of plastic on your wrist.

I have one of the cheaper Garmin watches, I use it to track mileage and to get a rought idea of my TDEE each day, and finally, to tell time
What do you need it for that your smart phone doesn't already cover? The heart rate and other stats are meme shit since they're around your wrist. Ones around your chest are the only relevant tools.
Complete waste of money and nobody I know who is actually fit owns one, only obese people who things counting your steps does anything aside from inflate your ego
I have an ancient FitBit. Tracking my steps and sleep is good enough for me. I've been using an app that rewards for steps, it's already made up for what I paid for the FitBit.

My fitbit charge 4 is counting steps when I play the piano. I got 3-4k steps from playing for 1-2 hours. However, as I understand it you can burn some calories from playing piano or similar instruments as you have a higher heart rate. I've been playing for 25 years since I was a kid so there's a lot of fast pieces under my belt. Is there some validity to this?
