What do you think of Dexascans?

Was curious from seeing ads on social media, and finally bit the bullet and did a dexascan. I know I'm kinda fat, but I've been working out pretty hard for the last 2+ years, and am in the best shape of my life.

I was thinking I was hovering around 20%, tbh. Turns out I'm 30% bf.

One strange part of the breakdown they give in the report is that my arms are both basically the same, 13.4% & 13.5% of total body mass.

It says my left arm is 3.4lb fat, 9.5lb muscle & the right is 2.8lb fat, 10.1 muscle.

In any event, it's nice to have a scientific measure of this, and give me something to work toward. Will do another scan in a couple months to see how much fat I can drop.

What does that mean? I've been told I have a pretty big frame. 5'10 btw.

whys the top of your head so fat also isnt the wiener a muscle if so where is it

idk... and yeah, I was actually chuckling toward the end of the scan when it dawned on me that they could probably see my shriveled up teenis.

Kinda funny. Not bothered by it though, I'm a grower. 6.5'', 6'' around *shrug* have gotten mires.

I really wanna try one, I am obsessed with bone density and it is the only way to be sure.

      It's just shoulder width.

You don't really need them just check if you have a gut and do a skin fold check on your waist. It won't be precise but it's specific to you, so if the skin fold is getting thinner you're losing fat, if it's getting thicker you're gaining.

You do if u wanna know ur real bone density.

Can you please the navy calc and see how close the are?

imagine not living in the US.

I signed up for 2 scans. Thinking I'll do the other in ~2 months. Am going to be cutting, and I'm going to try to do additional cardio daily as well.

Today I ate 8 eggs w 1 small avacado, and had some greek yogurt w a small banana.

I know the GE machine I had mine done on was too narrow to fully scan both arms if you have a wide frame. It calculated my left arm mass based on my right. How was your bone density?

I have gotten two. One in January right before I started working out seriously again. I was like you man, almost the same lean/fat. I’m 6’2 and 35yo. I was really surprised I was 30% and also thought I was closer to 20.

Had my second one today, been working out 6 days a week and eating fairly strictly. I was +6lbs lean mass, -10lbs fat, down to about 26%.

Getting lots of mires and complements, even at such a beginner level. I feel great, I’m sharp at work, my wife is happy. It’s great to have the objective validation from Dexa, I’ll keep going prolly, bought a 4 pack so may as well.

It's $130 USD for three scans in my area. I just called up. I have been lifting for 1 year now, and I went from literal DYEL to 1000 lb club in that time. My arms went from around 14" (fat) to 16.5" (unpumped); I have gained some weight, but I feel it has been recomped. So I will see next week whether my training has been for good or for ill.

    >What does IST think of Dexascans?
It's extremely popular on the net and like all things popular on the net, it's bullshit.

Basically, it over-estimates fat percentage (I think there isn't a single study, ever, where DEXA wasn't giving out the highest body fat percentage of all methods) and is very expensive, both a great if you earn your money by testing people's body fat - they will always come back, they will always see the need for more tests, they will always spend their money on you.

    ofc, brainlets online think
    >highest body fat = most accurate
    >most expensive = best

This is dumb. I did one at the beginning and one at the end of a cut like 6 years ago and haven't been again. It was just a bit of fun to see what I did to my body.

      >Basically, it over-estimates fat percentage
It doesn't overestimate. It's just more accurate.
      >(I think there isn't a single study, ever, where DEXA wasn't giving out the highest body fat percentage of all methods)
      >Total body fat and abdominal regional fat were measured by DXA using a Lunar DPX-IQ. Multislice CT scans were performed between L1 and L4 vertebral bodies (region of interest) using a Picker PQ5000 CT scanner, and volumetric analyses were carried out on a Voxel Q workstation. Both abdominal total tissue mass (P = 0.02) and abdominal fat mass (P < 0.0001) in the L1-L4 region of interest were significantly lower as measured by DXA compared with multislice CT.
First result, basically you're a lying sack of shit.

It was like $120 for 2 scans, and I'm not poor.

And that makes sense, like I said, I was kinda surprised. I know I'm 'overweight", I'm ~210lb but I also have a 4 pack, and veins nearly visible in my abdomen.

My 'smart scale' at home says i'm ~18%bf.

This is dumb. I did one at the beginning and one at the end of a cut like 6 years ago and haven't been again. It was just a bit of fun to see what I did to my body.

That's what I'm planning to do.

Another gimmick to male you waste your time and money instead of training.
      Pure dyel bait.

You sound poor. Imagine getting a great workout in and walking out and climbing in a honda civic while I climb into my suped up ford mustang that pulls all the b***hes.

      j/k.

I can find dexa scans in my country but they're always banging on about osteoporosis testing, etc. Are all dexas the same? I wouldn't want to rock up after booking only to find I get a slip of paper saying "no osteoporosis" and no sign of body composition data.

      Anonymous

Yes they're the same thing. DEXA scans were originally created to test for osteoporosis.
