What is a respectable weight to lift with DB bench press?

What is a respectable weight to lift with DB bench press? I am able to do 34kg each side now for 8 reps and I don't think I've ever seen someone go above 40kg in my gym

      Multiply by 2.2

      50kgs are offical bigboy weight

That's just 2pl8. Isn't your db bench always gonna be like 30% worse at the same bench 1rm?

There was some study that said that barbell bench is on average 22% heavier but it was very dependent on how much you actually lift and the difference was smaller with experienced lifters.

it's not respectable to brag about your strength in a lift like the DB bench press, because it all depends on how far down you bring the weight.

      Anonymous

Also depends greatly on how tall you are. A 6f6" ultra-Chad has 30% longer ROM compared to some 5f7" doofus. And a much greater torque necessary to get the weight into momentum.

What's "respectable" varies from person to person. I did 8 reps for 5 sets of 38kg yesterday but don't consider particularly strong as I frequently see other people in my gym lifting 45kg. As long as you're making good progress it shouldn't matter.

I cant even do a 1pl8 in standard bench press, is it really that embarrassing? The max I can do is 50kg in total (counting the bar), though my repetition aim is always set to 10x. I don't see many people benching much more than 1pl8 in my gym

no, Im actually lifting more seriously for about 6 months. Man I don't get this, you guys say that 2pl8 are the ideal for bench press but when I go to the gym only the peak giga dudes are able to do this, most of the people I see can't even put 1pl8

yeah Im actually going to the most popular gym chain in my country, I know this influences on the goers profile, but I think my point still stands still

how tall and how much do you weight? if you are a turbo skelly manlet thats to be expected

honestly if you arent benching at least your bw for reps after 3 months or so on the gym you are doing something wrong (unless you are a turbo fatty of course)

Im 178cm and 70kg, I started full lifting after achieving a massive weight loss from my 92kg fat ass in 2021. Honestly Im clueless on what to do to improve my strength in order to reach the 1/2/3/4 'standard', my body is visibly improving through all these months nonetheless

Don't listen to all these retards, everyone's body is different and everyone will lift according to what they can. There are a lot of factors that strength depends on, so it would be best if you avoided comparing yourself to others. Only compare yourself to the self you were yesterday. If you keep improving, that's all that matters

Not that I compare myself to other people all the time, I indeed mostly focus on myself only, it is just that I find the stats propagated all the time on IST rather peculiar when contrasted with my surroundings. It feels that this place is some kind of echo chamber, either be it for the better or worse

likely you are afraid of using heavier weight, you say you can do 50kg x 10 why not just add more weight and less reps? did you hit a plateau? are you doing progressive overload?

to me it seems like you are trying to tell yourself that its ok to do lightweight because apparently everone in your gym is weak

                Anonymous

the x10 rep is more like the golden parameter for me, meaning that when I reach this number for more than one set, I proceed in adding more weight
currently Im doing 4 sets, in the first set I achieve 8x rep and in the last I barely do 5x. not sure if this is the moment to add more. should I decrease my rep aim?

                Anonymous

do 3x5 or 5x5 on compounds, the moment you can complete all of your sets you add 5lbs the next session if your gym has 2.5lb pl8s, keep at it until you cant progress any longer, you should probably be benching your bodyweight or more before you hit a wall

I don't go above 30kg on these because I can't seem to figure out how to curl heavier weights into position. Also I usually do them after my barbell work so I'm already pretty gassed.

Usually I stick with ring dips cuz they're fun and nobdoy else at my gym seems to be able to do them

12 reps is the maximum you should be pressing
you should fail anywhere between 8 to 12

5 reps is probably minimum you should go, and only do it on occasion just to provide heavy stimulus

Are you unironically asking me to post a naked picture of myself online for you to look at?

You don't actually believe the "8-12 rep for hypertropy" bullshit do you?

3-30 rep ranges all gives the same musclular growth. Lower reps improve 1rm. Higher rep ranges reduce injury chance. So if all you care about is size then higher reps are objectively better.

I can do 80 lb each arm for 10 reps, but I've never went above that. If I go for more weight on BP, I do barbell. I do DB with about 50-60 for 15-25 reps to get a ridiculous pump.

  26. 3 weeks ago

It's an odd kind of a skill OP. If you use your legs to help put them into position and then push yourself you could probably do more, but the difference with dbs is how they can sometimes suddenly start falling one way or another and there is nothing to stop the momentum. It could fall on your chest, on your face or even just twist your wrist into some awful injury (not sure how realistic that last one is but it sure feels possible with db press). I think it's a great lift, helping all those stabilizing muscles that bp doesn't use, I wouldn't sweat the amount you can do.
