What is a respectable weight to lift with DB bench press? I am able to do 34kg each side now for 8 reps and I don't think I've ever seen someone go above 40kg in my gym

Idk what kg means.
Do you know what google means? Don't reply to my threads ever again.
Multiply by 2.2
That's just 2pl8. Isn't your db bench always gonna be like 30% worse at the same bench 1rm?
>That's just 2pl8. Isn't your db bench always gonna be like 30% worse at the same bench 1rm?
There was some study that said that barbell bench is on average 22% heavier but it was very dependent on how much you actually lift and the difference was smaller with experienced lifters.
eat shit amerisharts
nobody cares about your moronic measurement system from the medieval ages
50kgs are offical bigboy weight
Wtf my gym doesn't even have 50kg dumbbells
it's not respectable to brag about your strength in a lift like the DB bench press, because it all depends on how far down you bring the weight.
Also depends greatly on how tall you are. A 6f6" ultra-Chad has 30% longer ROM compared to some 5f7" doofus. And a much greater torque necessary to get the weight into momentum.
Doesn't this also apply to every other exercise?
Yes
only power shitter ones. olympic weightlifting filters half reppers
depends on the ROM and form
half reps with spastic form arent impressive even with 120s+
Dumbbell weight * 2 + 20kg = Barbell weight
I assume 40 kg is 2pl8 analog
No, that would be 50kg. 40kg is 1.5pl8 analog.
55kg
What's "respectable" varies from person to person. I did 8 reps for 5 sets of 38kg yesterday but don't consider particularly strong as I frequently see other people in my gym lifting 45kg. As long as you're making good progress it shouldn't matter.

idk why but its amusing to me that you came back and deleted your post 15 minutes later just to change it from 36 to 38 kg

>kg
Say that again in first world units please?
LITERALLY the entire world apart from America uses kg you moron
The entire world is poorer and worse than America under every aspect so thanks for proving my point euro peon
sometimes i feel my chest exploding on db bench, sometimes not. why?
idk, I just lift heavy rock and put it down, until I can't lift it anymore
i could do 40kg each arm but i switched to picrel cause its safer for the shoulders than high weight db press. i ove that friggin machine. i have seen a massive roid troony do 60kg before tho
Does yuropoor equipment really come equipped with metal dildos?
>be you
>a gay homosexual
I wonder why this type of machine feels so much better to the seated version. Even plate loaded seated versions feel like shit compared to this.
holy shit I wish my gym had that
I fricked up my shoulder big time doing db press once and this would have saved me
I cant even do a 1pl8 in standard bench press, is it really that embarrassing? The max I can do is 50kg in total (counting the bar), though my repetition aim is always set to 10x. I don't see many people benching much more than 1pl8 in my gym
That's a decent weight to bench (for a female beginner)
female beginners barely can put the minimum weights in the bar
it's shit but you'll improve. if you can bench 50 for 10 you can bench 60 for at least 3-5
Have you just started? I assume you're a male, because for a female that would be impressive.
Female, used to be male but didn't lift then
no, Im actually lifting more seriously for about 6 months. Man I don't get this, you guys say that 2pl8 are the ideal for bench press but when I go to the gym only the peak giga dudes are able to do this, most of the people I see can't even put 1pl8
Sounds like your gym just doesn't have any serious lifters. Which is really not uncommon.
yeah Im actually going to the most popular gym chain in my country, I know this influences on the goers profile, but I think my point still stands still
Im 178cm and 70kg, I started full lifting after achieving a massive weight loss from my 92kg fat ass in 2021. Honestly Im clueless on what to do to improve my strength in order to reach the 1/2/3/4 'standard', my body is visibly improving through all these months nonetheless
Not that I compare myself to other people all the time, I indeed mostly focus on myself only, it is just that I find the stats propagated all the time on IST rather peculiar when contrasted with my surroundings. It feels that this place is some kind of echo chamber, either be it for the better or worse
likely you are afraid of using heavier weight, you say you can do 50kg x 10 why not just add more weight and less reps? did you hit a plateau? are you doing progressive overload?
to me it seems like you are trying to tell yourself that its ok to do lightweight because apparently everone in your gym is weak
the x10 rep is more like the golden parameter for me, meaning that when I reach this number for more than one set, I proceed in adding more weight
currently Im doing 4 sets, in the first set I achieve 8x rep and in the last I barely do 5x. not sure if this is the moment to add more. should I decrease my rep aim?
do 3x5 or 5x5 on compounds, the moment you can complete all of your sets you add 5lbs the next session if your gym has 2.5lb pl8s, keep at it until you cant progress any longer, you should probably be benching your bodyweight or more before you hit a wall
youre probably going to a fitness247
Don't listen to all these morons, everyone's body is different and everyone will lift according to what they can. There are a lot of factors that strength depends on, so it would be best if you avoided comparing yourself to others. Only compare yourself to the self you were yesterday. If you keep improving, that's all that matters
gay advice
how tall and how much do you weight? if you are a turbo skelly manlet thats to be expected
honestly if you arent benching at least your bw for reps after 3 months or so on the gym you are doing something wrong (unless you are a turbo fatty of course)
100lbs (45kg) each side for 10+ reps is respectable.
I say that because its what I can do presently.
You ain't shit. I do incline presses with 80lb dumbbells and I don't consider it something to brag about.
I don't go above 30kg on these because I can't seem to figure out how to curl heavier weights into position. Also I usually do them after my barbell work so I'm already pretty gassed.
Usually I stick with ring dips cuz they're fun and nobdoy else at my gym seems to be able to do them
>I don't go above 30kg on these because I can't seem to figure out how to curl heavier weights into position
You sit them on your knees and push from there with your legs as you lean back into position
I’m going to say that 35 kg per side for 8 reps is a respectable weight.
How much more do you guys DB bench flat vs incline? I'm at 27.5x6 incline since flat makes my shoulders feel weird
I usually go down 10lbs a side for incline.
50kg dumbbells for at least 5 but it depends on your height and weight and natty status
frauds get zero respect from me
t. 188cm 96kg with abs, natty
Idk why anyone would do dumbbell bench for less than 12 reps. Does anyone really get anything out of low rep dumbbell work? I use b***h weight but I really only do sets of 15-20 with dumbbells.
>Does anyone really get anything out of low rep dumbbell work?
Yes, anything above 5 reps is good hypertrophy
Yeah but 15-20 reps is just as good/better and easier to set up. 5 rep dumbbell work is just ego lifting
what???
12 reps is the maximum you should be pressing
you should fail anywhere between 8 to 12
5 reps is probably minimum you should go, and only do it on occasion just to provide heavy stimulus
but 15-20???? lmao post body with timestamp so i can see how much of a dyel you are
Are you unironically asking me to post a naked picture of myself online for you to look at?
You don't actually believe the "8-12 rep for hypertropy" bullshit do you?
3-30 rep ranges all gives the same musclular growth. Lower reps improve 1rm. Higher rep ranges reduce injury chance. So if all you care about is size then higher reps are objectively better.
>redditspacing
>moronic advice
many such cases
higher rep ranges don't provide the stimulus necessary to grow shit (except shoulders and biceps) unless you're frauding
>higher rep ranges don't provide the stimulus necessary to grow shit (except shoulders and biceps) unless you're frauding
not him but you're a moronic broscience moron
incorrect
i've been lifting since 2005 and i'm extremely jacked and still making gains, natty
i know what does and doesn't work
but okay, don't believe me then lol more gains for me, less for you
go back, low IQ npc homosexual
calm down fren we just telling you why you are wrong no need to get upset
neither of you small dicked small brained redditors told me anything of value lmao
have fun being dyel, morons
>loses argument in any way
>le "go back" meme.
You go back you fricking shithead.
Go back to your mother's vegana because you're clearly not fit for the world.
They're called paragraphs. Surely this isn't new to you?
You're still wrong though.
I only have a pair of 25 pounders. So that what I use lol
there are no 34kg dumbbells
i'm a dyel and i can do 65lbs for 3x10
I can do 80 lb each arm for 10 reps, but I've never went above that. If I go for more weight on BP, I do barbell. I do DB with about 50-60 for 15-25 reps to get a ridiculous pump.
It's an odd kind of a skill OP. If you use your legs to help put them into position and then push yourself you could probably do more, but the difference with dbs is how they can sometimes suddenly start falling one way or another and there is nothing to stop the momentum. It could fall on your chest, on your face or even just twist your wrist into some awful injury (not sure how realistic that last one is but it sure feels possible with db press). I think it's a great lift, helping all those stabilizing muscles that bp doesn't use, I wouldn't sweat the amount you can do.
>respectable
compete against yourself bro
find out what you are truly capable of
that way you never get complacent
