The IQ bell curve meme fits in almost all scenarios.

What do gym rats and non-lifters have in common that the average gym goer doesn't?

It's the straight opposite. Most people who really lift squat and deadlift with a belt while only non lifters and seriously strong motherfrickers see anything wrong with it.

You need compounds for actual total body strength and efficiency which carries over into isolation work. And if you want to target a single particular muscle, then by definition compounds won't be most suitable. Both are good.

Only reason I can think to skip compounds entirely is if you fraud and take steroids and have a glass body, then yes skip around from gay machine to single armed sitting cable twist homosexual shit

Squat is the most fat bound lift. I actually know 2 guys squatting 6plates the other a little below. They're both obese. If you have a massive squat 99 times out of 100 you're obese.

Compounds are good if you're time constrained and for functional stength. Some people also just enjoy being able to throw massive weights around
Isolations are good for focusing on the development of specific muscles or muscles that are otherwise hard to train

They both have their place depending on your program and your needs.

      Anonymous

What I've noticed is that people who focus only on specific exercises have different looking physiques in a way that is hard to put into words but it's almost like their muscles look fake. I think it's because of lack of back thickness which you can really only achieve doing deadlifts and/or heavy rows. People who mainly use compounds on the other hand have much more "full" looking physiques.
My guess is it's because compounds train most of your muscles but with isolations you have so many different parts to target that you can never get to everything separately as there are so many muscles in your body you wouldn't even think of training. Idk if this makes sense but I've been definitely noticing that.

they are but in nonpowerfat way. leg lifts gtfo. dips, close presses and narrow grips on pull ups and chin ups. works mostly arms with some torso. gymbros have too big torsos so its ideal. gives good proportions and saves time. arm targeted compounds. dont bother with ohp, row squat or derplift nonsense.

So if you are right, the vast majority of average people you see at the gym should be doing compounds.

But you don't see that, do you?

ehh idk if id oversimply it that much. ive done the
      >eat less move more
thing to a pretty heavy extreme. Wasnt awful but wasnt particularly enjoyable either with no real gameplan. Once i started tracking protein at the very least it got a lot better. The whole carbs thing is just silly though - dont eat sugary/seed oil fried garbage and you probably wont get that many cravings. Also realize that a lot of times you think you're craving sugar you're actually craving salt.

      Id say its more like
      >eat healthy move more
      >hurrr meme diet reddit science bullshit
      >eat healthy, move more.

  25. 2 weeks ago

I fricking hate this meme, its a misunderstanding of what midwit was originally meant to imply, which is very fricking ironic. 100 iq people don't say 'trust the science' and shit like that, 100 is the average iq of say a policeman or skilled labourer. Midwit meant someone of a above average iq, usually placed at 115, but who didn't really question anything and took authority at face value. Smart enough to be propagandized to basically. So no, the iq bellcurve meme doesn't fit all scenarios, people with an average iq are much simpler than you think.
