135 is way more impressive to normies than a 10 minute mile. I would say more like 105

No 135 is about the same as a 10 minute mile. Both are easily attainable with a little training, but most people can't do it on day one. not anything too crazy for people who train consistently.

What the frick are you talking about?
10 minute mile is a joke. I never once trained for it and during my high school PE runs i was still getting 8 min xx sec miles every time.
Lots of people can barely bench the bar itself with no training.
10 min mile is like a 65 lb bench

this, 10 minutes would even be slow for a fat 5th grader

then what is the 135 bench equivalent in mile time
              t. someone who has never timed their mile

                imo maybe 8 min mile.
i think a 6 min mile is 225 bench equivalent
5 min mile being like 315

A 5 minute mile is incredibly elite. The world record is just under 4 minutes.

Yeah but a 315 bench press for an average person (aka not a very tall or very fat person) is incredibly elite, too.

all the roid monsters on the tubs are eating 315s for breakfast.

Well steroids is cheating, first of all. Second of all, Symmetric Strength puts a 200 pound male (average weight in the US) bench pressing 315 for 5 at "Exceptional."

And you wouldn’t consider roid monsters elite? What is your definition of elite then

I think youre underestimating how far apart 60 seconds is. Yeah 4 minutes is elite but anyone can get to 5 in a few months

                >anyone
Uh I don't know, a few months of hard training is too much for most normies for anything. So in terms of the physical ability you're probably right but definitely not in terms of the mental ability.

                Anonymous

Still, that doesn't make it elite or anything. A person dedicated to getting a 5 min mile will get it much much sooner than someone going for 315 bench

                this seems fair imo
sub 5 is hard. it seems easier because you see skinnny 16 year old guys doing it but those guys weigh 125lb and it's still hard for most of them(as in 2-3 years of consistent training) like 315 isn't too bad if you weigh 250 either. For an average 180lb guy they are about equal and both very solid amateur marks

I don’t know but you could look up mile run time percentiles and compare it to benching percentiles roughly to get a rough estimate.
My guess is like 7 min mile is 135 lb bench. Can’t be done on day one but with some training it’s not extremely hard.

A 135lb bench is easy for the vast majoriy of men on day 1. A lot of women can do it on day 1

          A 10 minute mile is 6m12s/km.

This puts you on track for a 31 minute 5k, which is pathetic for anyone who does any kind of physical activity. You wouldn't impress a high school curling team with that time.

The bench press equivalent would probably be an empty bar. Anyone who has actually tried and isn't physically disable can do it.

I couldn’t bench the bar on my first day. It was humiliating.

what was your bodyweight, height, age, etc? I always hear people talking about not being able to bench the bar but I have never seen it. I would imagine you would need to be like 5'6 or below. what do you bench now?

                Anonymous

Does height matter that much to bench ? I'm 5'6 and hit 225 in about 9 months of lifting it took me over a year running every day to hit a 6 min mile.

                Anonymous

no I just said I would assume if you cant bench the bar you would probably be 5'6 or so because you would probably also be like around 100lbs body weight. most short dudes i know are way stronger at benching than me who is 6'1

The guy who responded to you wasnt me. Im 6 ft tall and bench has always been my worst lift. I don’t remember my weight when I started lifting but probably like 160 i was a skinnyfat disgusting skeleton. I also have very long limbs and flimsy thin bones so benching has always been the bane of my existence.

what are your stats now man? interested to hear more because I feel like starting with the bar really is rock bottom so every pound you put on to your bench has got to be worth that much more

Yup IST has fried your brain. If we're speaking about true normies, by the way, they aren't even able to comprehend how much you lift after like a plate and a half.

            >but if i don't life every day i won't get strong
no you will get tendonitis like i almost did.

If you can’t bench 365 MINIMUM you are a weak loser

i can do 2 reps of 300 on a VERY good day where i have a great meal.

In terms of patheticness it’s about equivalent to 1pl8. Each is just one level above absolute dyel/fatass tier. Ya a fat duck day 1 might be able to get 1pl8 but that’s no more impressive than some scrawny twig carrying his 120lb body to a 10 minute mile
