Ideally you run your diet on cronometer, fix deficiencies with food, get a blood test and then if you're deficient you might supplement something that you can't get from your diet for whatever reason.

The thing is that it doesn't take calcium into bones by itself. It only activates another hormone that does that. Doesn't matter how much k2 you have, you are not increasing the hormone that does the work. But if you lack k2, then that hormone won't be able to do it's work.
