what the frick do I do at this point

I've been stuck like this for over two years. I cannot go ottermode. I cannot go bearmode. No matter how much or little I eat, I am stuck in this limbo where I have a very average dyel physique. No I am not exaggerating. I have gone a couple months eating 3k calories a day, peaked at 185 lbs. Went a couple months only eating 1.5k calories a day (adderall), could only get down to 170.
Yes I lift regularly. I am sore all the time.
My latest cope is cardio. I see very muscular bros running every night so I figure that has to help somehow.

Should I just run a fricking cycle a this point? Do I have a T deficiency?

My spirit is so fricking broken I don't even care about looking nice anymore. Being "not obese" is good enough. I want to be able to lift heavy things. I want to be able to sprint a quarter mile without falling over and shitting myself.

Have your lifts gone up? If the answer is no, then that explains why you still look the same. To get muscle, you need to train. It's not training if you're not intentionally putting more weight on the bar each time to try to do more. Here's what you do:

Get a beginner program, i.e. Stronglifts 5x5, Greyskull LP, Reg Park's beginner routine, etc.
Make sure you apply the prescribed progression scheme. If no progression scheme is prescribed, start with the bar and add 10 lbs to the bar each session for as long as you can handle it, then 5 lbs for as long as you can keep it up, then 2.5 lbs after that.
Eat a 500 calorie surplus with 1g of protein per lb of body weight. For you that would be 170 g/day.

I'm in the same boat lol. Our bodies look very similar. Made decent progress in my first year, then frick all after that besides upping my squat to 2pl8. Then I stopped squatting so much because my ass was getting too phat.
Pretty sure I made a huge mistake of taking kratom for a few months which I believe lowers T and wipes out gains. Now I've been taking ashwagandha extract and that seems to be helping.
Considering how you have 0 chest hair like me, I would get your T levels checked. Other than that do you follow the basics of lifting? Do you progressively overload? Are your lifts going up? Do you feel stronger? How old are you?

As to running, that's not going to help you get jacked. I run all the time just because it's fun (and cardiovascular fitness is just as important) If anything it makes my chest look flat but my legs are jacked.

I've tried SS multiple times, mainly because I don't have time to do more than 3-5 exercises a day anyway.
      >progressive overload
Yes, but I lift on and off so I often lose progress. I have am not a NEET and am often busy 14 hours a day doing shit. But yes, when I am lifting consistently my PRs for bench and squat may go up 5lbs a week or so.

I am only 20, it is by no means over. I'm a stemcel, things are going very well for me financially and socially.

here we fricking go again, kys lazy homosexual its over only and just only for you specifically

Oh okay thanks, I'll give up starting tomorrow then.

I typed a very long message but here is the gyst of it:

      1. You need to cut until your abs are visible. Even if it means cutting down to like 140. Embrace the suck. Do some cardio to get there. I know you feel like a skelly but you have fat around your midsection that can go. Once you have abs you'll feel much better about yourself.
      2. You then need to just train harder. Lift heavy as frick. Bench until someone has to pull the weight off of your chest. Squat until you have to drop it on the safety bars. Deadlift until you can't move the bar an inch off the ground. Focus on protein intake, not just calories.
      3. For cardio you need to train exceptionally hard to see benefits. I used to run 3 miles every other day and it had no effect. Once I started fire academy and they made us do weighted cardio until we collapsed, my vo2 max skyrocketed.

      >cut down to 140
I don't think this is physically possible. During school months, especially when things get busy, I often survive off one (usually small) meal a day due to adderall and not having time to prepare other meals. Even during that mode the lowest I can get is 165. I think going less than 1k calories per day is risking malnutrition and other adverse consequences.
      >lift heavier
Yeah I'll admit I'm a pussy and I have a low pain tolerance. I've always been a b***h. Is there some way I can increase my pain tolerance? I feel like I'm unable to unlock my muscles full potential.

As for cardio, and this goes for all of you, I understand it won't give me gains. It's more a personal thing, I want to be able to run in an emergency without vomiting everywhere.

      >ITT: another brutal optimistic anon finds out he is in fact. A “non responder” and will be gaslit that he’s just not trying hard enough by the genetically gifted

Nah I think the genetic potential is there, my dad was jacked when he was my age but he played sports and lifted since he was 14.

My current routine is just whatever I have time for. I run a chest day where I do bench, incline bench, OHP. Legs day where I do a lot of squats and maybe some shoulder stuff if I have time. Arms day where I do bicep and tricep, you get the idea. I know how to do all these individual exercises because as a kid I DID have a strict routine, but not anymore. I don't deadlift because there's other things I can do and I'd rather not take the risks associated w it.

        >bulking
I'm telling you man, I have some genetic predisposition to not gain weight. I was a stick as a child. I have IBS, lactose intolerance, and I take adderall. Even if I force myself to eat 3000 cals a day via dirty bulking I'll violently shit most of it out. I WISH I could bulk up to 200 lbs. I wish.

You sound way too full of yourself and too confident for someone that looks like that and who's made this little progress. You're failing in a phase where doing anything should be enough. Stop acting like a know-it-all.

Okay, I see, you're some dumbass, egomaniac fireman who is probably running gear

Also this. I work in SWE which takes a lot of mental stamina. I usually fast 14 hours a day anyway but going more than that and I can't think straight. I have to eat a sandwich at 2 PM or something.

I said to cut until he has abs. The 140 was just a bullshit number. I am not running test and had the same issues OP did. I want him to focus on getting his abs so he can dedicate himself to a bulk and feel good about doing so. That's when he needs to focus on getting stronger. He could bulk from his current physique, sure. He would build muscle and keep going but he clearly taps out because he feels "too fat." I understand that sentiment. The only way to bulk without feeling "too fat" is to start from a lower bodyfat %.

I started lifting at 120 lbs. Bulked and cut and bulked and cut and looked like shit all the time. Had the same physique as OP despite hitting 1/2/3/4 at 175 lbs. Finally decided to cut until my abs were visible. Stayed at 1/2/3/4 (though my bench went up slightly from 225 to 235) and ended the cut at 152 with visible abs. Then did a slow, steady cut and did so for a few years. Only now do I feel good about my physique.

If you truly can't cut down to have abs, anon, because you're a genetic anomaly, then you just need to bite the bullet and fat bulk. Eat a ton of protein and lift like your life depends on it.

I'm also not a firefighter, anon. I did fire academy ages ago but ended up refusing the local FD job offer to go to PA school.

I've already had this epiphany though. I did used to fear becoming fat. I don't care now. I know I can lose it because I take adderall. Losing weight is literally just CICO and I can go days a a time on a single meal using adderall.

Then you know what you have to do.
Many people claim that if you bulk into really high BF% territory just to reach <200 lbs, your gains might slow down. I'm not sure if this is true because I've never done it myself, but I've been wary of it. You sincerely do have some fat to lose around your waist, anon. And as you lean out your definition will show and you'll actually see the progress you've made already. But if you truly cannot cut and are 1 in a million genetically, then just fat bulk, frick it.

What program have you been running for these two years? Your shoulder and right arm look pretty good.

    >I am stuck in this limbo where I have a very average dyel physique. No I am not exaggerating. I have gone a couple months eating 3k calories a day, peaked at 185 lbs. Went a couple months only eating 1.5k calories a day (adderall), could only get down to 170.
How tall are you? If you're 6'+ you definitely need to get above 200 with a slow bulk. As a natural, "bulking to 185", and then "cutting to 170" is basically dipping your toe into the pool, then immediately taking it out, and asking why your whole body is not wet

    >My latest cope is cardio
What are the specifics of how you run? What's your heart rate, pace, distance, total time? Those muscular bros are doing cardio because they need to lose fat, and keep their hearts healthy for pumping blood to all the muscle they have. Right now, you don't really have any muscle because you've been spinning your wheels.

    >I want to be able to lift heavy things.
5x5 squat and bench 3x / week, mix in OHP regularly in order to keep the shoulders balanced, deadlift 1x5 1 - 2x / week, and do some deadlift variations like stiff-legged, romanian, or sumo occasionally to manage fatigue and assist the deadlift. Slow bulk at +250 - 500 for the next two years. 80% of the posters here are moronic trolls, you won't get fat-fricked if you bulk like this.

        >what program
        >Usually SS because I have no time.
If you've got good biceps on SS, then that's a good sign. However, SS, and heavy lifting in general, really only works if you're bulking at the same time, or already massive and maintaining it.
Also, make sure to mix in chinups, pullups, pendlay rows, and dips so that you don't become a powershitter.

        >how tall
        >6 ft on the dot.
Yeah, you need to gain weight. I'm 6'3", and over the past 2.5 years I've bulked from 175 lbs to 230. It has caused a complete change in the demeanor of people towards me.

I'm a fellow stemcel who just graduated from a master's in computational physics, and during undergrad + first years of grad school when I was <= 175, and obviously a stem nerd, men used to sneer nastily at me, and women wouldn't make eye contact. Now I get eye-fricked when I go out, and when men look at me they want my respect.

If want to see similar results, then over the next two years you need to slowly eat your way up to at least 200, probably 215.

        >What are the specifics of how you run
        >I can't run more than half a mile at a time. I'm at square zero here. I know that it will not become "easy" it's more of a personal thing.
When you say "running", how hard are you running? Are you sprinting? With a 3x / week full-body program, you can really only afford to sprint once a week, on the day before first lift (the one occurring after two days off from lifting). If you're talking about sprinting, then it makes sense you can only run 800m before gassing out. NO ONE can sprint much more than 400.

        >bulking
        >I'm telling you man, I have some genetic predisposition to not gain weight
No, you don't. Your body behaves according to the same laws of thermodynamics as the rest of us. If it gets more energy than it burns, it uses that energy to grow. You need to eat a +500 surplus for the next two years while continuing to lift as you've been (while mixing in the accessories I listed).

          >When you say "running", how hard are you running?

Yes I am aware that calories are energy. You're missing the point. If I'm not ABSORBING the calories then it doesn't matter. >I can't just drink a gallon of milk per day like some morons on this forum.
                Haha, of course not.

                > I've been meal prepping lately, freezing premade ground beef portions and such. But my only option is to eat bland, generic foods like rice and vegetables.
100% clean bulks, and more generally diets, NEVER work. Anything that restrictive is only metastable, and will decohere after a handful of weeks when the cravings set in.

People really overestimate the amount of veggies they need, after you hit your micronutrient targets, anything else is wasted stomach volume.

You don't need to GOMAD, or supplement with protein powder. You need to EAT young man. Get your protein in, get your micronutrient profile complete, and then after that eat ANYTHING you need to get you to your target. It's literally that simple.

I bulked on chicken thighs, and potato chips. I'd eat super clean for breakfast, but then polish off probably a half pound of potato chips between lunch and dinner with a fourth and sometimes fifth meal thrown into the mix. It's just the First Law of Thermo. Get your nutrition in from the leafy greens, whole grains, and fruits, then add the calories you need to hit a +500 surplus.

Honestly, it doesn't matter where they come from.

            >Yes I am aware that calories are energy. You're missing the point. If I'm not ABSORBING the calories then it doesn't matter. If I drink a tall glass of milk, yes it has 250 calories, but my body will NOT process it and I will shit mostly liquid a few hours later. I'd say I have a calorie to poop ratio of 1500 cals per regular sized poo.
            lmao anon stfu

Last post got too long, so here's another the rest about running.

        >Running
Basically, there's two things to understand here
        (1) Sprinting
        (2) Running for conditioning + bodybuilding

For (1), repeating myself, only sprint 1x / week. If you're recovering from heavy lifting, you can't really sprint. Maybe you can go out there and try to run hard, but it won't be as hard as if you had a days worth of recovery from high intensity work, and it will impair your recovery for the next day when you're lifting heavy (high intensity work). So only sprint 1x / week. What I do on my sprint day is dynamic warmup, then start off with a 400m, 300m, 200m, 100m rhythm run to get loose, do some acceleration work, and then hit my working distances. Do some research on how to sprint because it's just as technical as the power clean, which is pretty technical.

For (2), you can do these runs 2x / week, I do them between Lift 1 and Lift 2, and Lift 2 and Lift 3. For these runs, you want to stay in Zone 2 the entire time. It should be very low intensity, not pushing yourself to go fast at all, just stretching and working your legs. This will put you in a state where your body is burning fat as fuel rather than Zone 3+ where it starts to also use protein and carbs.

        >I work in SWE
Yes, I understand. I program GPUs so my background is very similar. Trust me, I know how much engineering school sucks. I remember days when I would get up at 7AM, go to sleep at midnight, work every minute of that time period, and still not get everything done I needed to.

Great thing about heavy lifting is that it builds the work capacity of your CNS, which has carry over to SWE. YGMI just keep pushing anon, I've had those dark nights of the soul just like your spirit is experiencing now. It will payoff. Just don't be afraid to eat more.

You're eating the wrong foods. Stop eating rice, cereal, bread, oats, and other carbs and you'll be shredded this summer.
