What the fuck happened to the prestige of the 225 bench?

What the frick happened to the prestige of the 225 bench? I swear it used to be held in far higher regard, but now even tiktok prostitutes are pushing 200lbs no problem, it's like 2pl8 has become the new 1pl8. Is anyone else noticing this?

Social media happened. Nothing else. Everything is about extremes. Ironically though, unless you live in a busy place/popping city.

I rarely see a 2pl8+ bench at my gym.

And thats cause its usually around max rep weight. Most dudes are okay with pushing a plate + 25 for reps or whatever instead.

    >but now even tiktok prostitutes are pushing 200lbs no problem
Almost passable bait, but everyone knows women are shit at benching
For example, in the state of florida in the 1a highschool division the top ranked female weightlifter in the UNLIMITED weight class has a ... 195 pound bench
Women without steroids and shrimpbacking bench like jv football players at a school with 8 people

1a is tiny did you mean 6/7a?

        Anonymous

Florida only has 3 divisions, 1a/2a/3a.
I honestly don't know what the division parameters are but my school was around 1200 enrolled and 1a
3a schools basically only exist in huge cities

Average lifter is now a zoomer instead of a millennial.
Millennials are pathetic failures and suck at lifting so to them a mere 2pl8 bench was impressive.
Zoomers are less pathetic so for them a 2pl8 bench is 6 months or less of lifting

Millenials in the gym are fricking brutes, dude, I don't know what the frick you're on about

Zoomies are complete nihilists incapable of long term thought so they’re blasting test and tren at 16yo
I know more guys on their late teens on roids than millennials in all my life

Nah, tren is very meh for strength, strongest injectable but absolutely nothing compared to orals like super and anadrol. Even rad 140 is decently powerful compared to drols, and that can be bought at almost any supplement shop.

Yeah sort of. Like in the NFL combine we have punters hitting 9 reps on the bench at 225(for you euro bros that don't know about American football it's what some of the college prospects are tested on to show upper body strength and punters are notorious for weak upper bodies).

Best I have gotten was 5 reps but I don't really train bench too much just once a week and rarely follow a program. Then I see some skinny kid suicide grip 285 for doubles and feel like a little b***h

Why do you care what other people are doing? Why does your self worth hinge on being competitive with another person at lifting weights? It literally does not matter for 99.999% of people how much they can bench

        Anonymous

I thrive off competition, it adds a little something to otherwise mundane tasks. Even if it's just the casual gym nemesis. Plus it's really impressive to she him make things that I struggle or can't do look easy.

Pretty much this; there's a total lanklet at my gym who benches 2pl8 for reps and I'm never not impressed

Plus the dude weighs like 50lbs less than me

When you guys talk about benching 2 plates you mean at least 10-12 reps?

      Anonymous

Most people who "bench 2pl8s" bounce it off their chest 3 times while their spotter bro does most of the work. Then they all give each other high fives.

Yeah i started noticing it. All these people saying high numbers on exercises and i was like: "i am totally weak, look at this guys doing 8 reps of 200 lbs, meanwhile i only lift 44 lbs"

I had a mate from an old job that claimed after 3 months of going to the gym he could leg press 600kg. I saw him do it, he took just about every 20kg plate and then leg pressed with about a 1.5 inch range of movement. I didn't understand how he didn't feel embarrassed.

225 is a solid bench if the guy weights150 lb or less

A buddy of mine ways 130 maybe 135 and he used to put up two pl8s no problem consecutively. I used to be kind of amazed.

I'd say in my gym I'm one of 4 guys who I've ever seen hit 3 plates. Of the other three, one is some roided out black dude who's always bringing a few other super skinny black guys with him. Not certain what happens to them, as they disappear every few months and a new guy takes their place. The second is some wannabe bloated powerlifter who has 3 plates as his max but it's still less than bodyweight for him. The third is a generic fit white guy like me.

Funny thing is, I've never seen anyone do anything between 2 and 3 plates. Either you're struggling to hit 225, or you're repping 315+ easily. It seems like 225 is a goal for a fair number of people, but once they hit it they never try to push for more.

Been lifting for 2.5 months at age 36 and my bench is 160 3x3. I peaked 230 in highschool. OHP is more fun as a whole and I'm only pressing 100 3x5. It's wild how shit my bench has become with age, i've stalled a couple times just coming back from 95. I expect 185 end of year and 225 end of spring.

100kg bench have always been the norm. I had a lot of party friends back 15 years ago who were skinny/muscular that did 10 reps of 100kg but could barely do squats or DL. People who focus on one lift usually get strong in that lift.

    im at 1.75 plate bench, lmao. (45 + 35) for a modest 205.

6x reps, no chest bouncing, i have no spotter

Since I started training again 5 months ago I have only been doing dumbbell chest presses. Using 47.5kg dumbbells now so not sure what that translates to for barbell.
When I was younger my best barbell bench press was 150kg for 3 sets of 7, 6, 4 reps.

It means you’re a little b***h boy. 275 bench at 175lb here been lifting for barely 2.5 years totally natty. If you’re on gear your bench should be 3.5pl8 minimum if you are doing anything right at all and have been at it for over a year.

IST has become full of larping homosexuals e-stating all their lifts so now 2pl8 is dyel tier
combine this with incredible substance abuse by zoomers and social media gays and now unless you bench 3pl8 within 6 months of lifting you should neck

More people are learning how to program properly for size and strength. I mean people once thought >315lbs bench was roided

  21. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

No I'm not noticing this. Even Alex Eubank benches just 2 pl8. If you thought he is a tiktok prostitute then idk maybe you have a point but yeah women are definitely not benching even 1pl8 and a lot of fake natty roiders are benching just 2pl8.

The prestige is exactly what it used to be. Maybe even more because back in the day people took training seriously, nowadays you have all these weak morons chasing the pump and not even doing compounds because they watched jpgcoach videos.
