People like you is why Shampoos have to write "do not drink" in the label.

He doesn't say to stare directly at the sun, what he says is that you should have sun in your eyes by just walking/stading in sun during early daytime to regulate your sleep (it will wake you up faster and make you sleepier at night).

This stare at the sun meme has been going around since he started his podcast and IST is moronic. Hubberman is fine but most stuff wont change your life, it will just do minor tweaks. His advice is good if you like min/maxing your life.

That being said be careful of his guests because he goes get some SUS advice from them. The best episodes are when he is solo IMO.srw0dm

way too willing to ditch common sense and time-tested procedures just because one or two studies pointed in the opposite direction

He doesn't profit though, he just provides tips, sponsors only pay for the podcast and some is donated towards donation towards others' academic research. He's a neuroscientist so he's paid reasonably well by Stanford lmao. And you might be right but that doesn't mean the study is meaningless, if you could only improve by directly observing results from the exact use case we're interested in we'd never get anything done. Pretty much only contrarians hate Huberman, or they just actually lack independent thinking and digest data and meta analyses themselves. Meanwhile nonexistent "evidence" posted by bloggers are used to justify hatred of seed oils, etc. Essentially if you see someone take a stance on IST you immediately be skeptical of it, only a fool would take anything written here as fact. Trust science for once tard

I think this is pretty valuable in itself, especially since people (myself included) tend to over validate people due to their credentials.

When the general population sees not just him, but people like Friedman and such are just as susceptible to bias and false information and that science even at the highest institutions are still run by very fallible humans it makes it very evident that all this faith we have in the way science is produced and disseminated is deeply flawed, regardless of were it comes from because it's always people who will be generating the information and spreading it.

Basically harmless. 99% of his advice is literally shit as obvious as "try to get good sleep." The advice that goes beyond that is basically "Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP but for men" type fluff that won't hurt you but won't help much either. Things like supplementing Tongkat Ali. I've tried it, maybe I felt a tiny test boost but it was probably nothing. I'm not sure why anyone would compare him to any controversial political/social influencer. I'd recommend some of his videos to someone who is on day one of their health/fitness journey so they understand the basics of lifestyle (sleep, diet etc) optimization. Beyond that, his stuff is just popsci bullshit "life hacks". It's MPMD but with a better-credentialed host.

Yeah it's MPMD with 15 more IQ points and longer form. He's not an expert in the vast majority of his topics, but his guests are often interesting

He's not an expert but his experience in neurology is a great foundation. Though like you say, I appreciate his guests. I loved his series with Andy Galpin since he's an actual expert in the field of fitness, and he corrects Huberman on a lot of stuff he's gotten wrong. But credit where credit is due, Huberman--like any decent person--adjusts what he professes based on what he learns from the experts.

for example I saw him reference that famous chinese nofap study (with the ridiculous t level peak after a week), when any bachelors student who finished statistics 101 should immediately see how sketchy that paper is, and this guy is supposed to be a professor which is quite shocking

you have to take things people say with a grain of salt, but with him it's less so than with other public figures promoting scientific information

he's said plenty of questionable things but since people here are contrarians in nature they tend to throw the baby out with the bathwater and dumb things down, although probably like 2/3 don't care and are just doing it offhand cause this is a mongolian basketweaving board

good actionable advice from him I think is sunlight exposure, I've noticed it be a way to help me time when I wake up because before doing it I would spend 45min in bed with no energy despite avoiding screens before bed and going to sleep at the same time

some shit has been hard to implement so I haven't bothered

things like palm cooling sound really interesting but it seems highly biased and I'm not paying for a 1500€ device to regulate my temperature between sets ever, if it truly has merit one day competition will drive the price down and it will be in every commercial gym and I'll know it's efficacy so until that happens I ain't adopting

he's had some involvement with mpmd, which isn't a good thing cause I consider that guy to be a soft charlatan
