Don't you feel inadequate when you compare yourself to them?

Why are you comparing apples to oranges? You would be most comparable to people around you, but even then there are so many differences between people theyre incomparable. The only person you should ever compare yourself with is you before now, as that's the only one you can compete with. Are you better than you were yesterday?

Who defeated you? Get over it and focus on yourself and not others.

All the girls I liked went for somebody else, so when I look at pictures of jacked anons, I think to myself "that's the guy they would go for every time, not me". You never felt that way?

I’m a manlet so I know that feel even if I’m in good shape all it takes is a guy taller then me and I’ll loose everything which may or may not be true idk

I mean I get where you're coming from, I also felt like that before. But I just kinda got over it. You can wallow in self pity, or try and get over it and max your life out as much as you can. Remember that you're only here once, and after you die that's probably it (unless you believe in reincarnation, but even then you'll never get another try at this exact life). You may as well see how far you can take yourself, whether it's your body, art, exploration, whatever fancies you. Having a gf and/or sex is good and all, but theres a whole lot more to life, brother. Keep your chin up

So you wanna do something about that, or wait till you are 50 and too old ?
              The time is now.

I think the "getting over it" part is the hardest one for me, I understand I should let go of it all and just work on myself, but these thoughts and comparisons show up very often. And I do go the gym regularly, that's not a problem, just that getting on a level where I would feel good about myself, that takes so much time. It's just draining to feel like shit for so long, how did you get over it personally?

Just a realization I had. It's hard to explain, but there is a world of difference between understanding something and actually internalizing it. Not sure how to help on that end of things though, sorry. Hope it all goes well for you

Thank you brotha, I have one other question: did you have moments of isolation where you didn't really have any opportunities to compare yourself to others, it was just you alone? I feel like that works for me to some degree, but it's a very temporary solution.

Kind of live it, go through the motions and give your brain time to assimilate the situation.
But that said do contemplate what you are lacking and what can be done to improve realistically over what is emotions over something else in your life.

Worst case try hypnotherapy. But only if you deem it too much of burden.

How do you decide when you're good enough? I mean it's up to use to create our own thresholds, but what do you reckon is a healthy one? Personally I'd say I'm lacking in everything, but that is because my threshold is really high, I have to be at the top 1% in every aspect to feel like I'm good enough. At least in the things that I can actually change.

Beat PRs through planned actions, not random lifts. PRs that you know are respectable.

yo that shit is what helps keep me grounded in reality sometimes, i get all fricked in the head and then actually go outside and run errands and realize 90% of the people around me dont even care about lifting weights or getting jacked.

in the end if you compare yourself today to yourself from yesterday its the most balanced mindset ive found. still motivated to improve but not disheartened because you see the improvement happening.

Those jacked dudes probably feel the same way you do and that’s also why they have been lifting for years. Use your pussy mindset and to make something out of it at least.

Pro tip: no matter how much you lift you will always feel DYEL. It’s called body dysmorphia and that’s what keeps everyone going.

The point of going to the gym is to be surrounded by incredibly attractive and fit people who will make you feel like a complete failure. Plus, it's always fun to watch people who are actually in shape do things that you can only dream of. Keep up the good work, buddy.

I used to think like you. What's the point, I'm so far behind. Then I went to the gym, I am still unfit, weak and fat, but I feel better, both physically and mentally and I'm better than I was the previous day. Gym is a great place. Thank you IST.

      >Would you rather see pictures of only skinnyfat and obese, OP?
He probably would, since then it means he's just as bad as them and don't have to improve. It's the female mindset you see in the fat acceptance movement, they want all models etc. to be fat because it confirms their world view that they are already good enough. Instead of striving to improve.

Unless you have a nice day or die in some unforeseen tragedy, the years will come and go anyway. If you're 5 years behind, then in another 5 years you could be 10 years behind and then you'd really be fricked off.
Don't look to others for your own invalidation. Every day, just aim to be a little better than the day before.

Here's the thing OP, those years are coming whether you use them or not. I work in an industry where people always ask things like "I am 40 and want to go to medical school/start a business/have a kid, but I don't want to be still be in school/working full time/doing school drop offs at 45". I always remind them that they'll be 45 in dice years anyway, but they could either have five years progress by then or they could just be starting out and wishing they hadn't waited. Second best time to plant a tree and all that shit.

    Lift the weights OP

    It's fun and challenging.
I for one don't care much about all the other stuff people care about like houses, money, kids, etc.
I do like seeing what my body is capable of and pushing myself.

I think you need to REALLY ask yourself "is this what I want". If it is, do something. If not, frick off and do whatever you found.
