    I ran a 25:12 today

My PR is 23:58. I'm now at 26:41, recovering from an injury.

      https://i.imgur.com/97qALhM.png

I did 27:32 today but as says it was 40°C outside and I almost puked

Also, my toenail got my toenail stuck into another toe halfway, which sucks

My route is 5.5km and just did a 25:20

I have run 5:30 min per kilometre. That makes it 27:30

      Nice.

      I did my first 25 5k.
Are you guys proud of me

Good job, anon, I am proud of you.

I ran 4 miles in 1 hour, people say that's really bad but I don't understand, I'm on treadmill at 5% incline doing HIIT 3 minute [email protected] mph/2 minute walk @3 mph

That is very slow. You're doing a run at 10.5 km/h and it's not constant either. I run about 12km/h but I don't stop running around that pace for my entire run.

I'd switch to outdoor running if I could but temperatures here are above 100f(39c?) Most of the day, I have no trouble matching the cardiobunnies at my gym but it's a planet fitness so as their motto goes "we're not a gym"

I mean, you're only running a little over half the time and those walks are super slow.
If you're particularly large/unfit and this is all it takes to get your heart rate where it needs to be, ignore everything I'm about to say, but:

3 minutes sounds way too long for it to be considered HIIT, and 6.5mph sounds way too slow. That's barely faster than what I sustain as a steady jog for an entire hour and I wouldn't consider myself a strong runner.
I don't wanna encourage you to go beyond your capabilities, but I have a feeling you're just not challenging yourself. I tend towards the same behaviour on a treadmill just because it's so fricking boring, but your body's probably capable of way more. Try to just run at this pace for the entire hour. It might be hard at first since you're not used to it, but just work your way up if you need to. Bump it up each workout to 4min/1min, 8min/2min, 20/5, 30/5, 40/5, 60 straight.
Either that or just nudge up the pace during your run intervals until you find something that's actually challenging, you'll probably find you can go way faster than you think. You probably won't be able to sustain it for as long and your ratio of HIIT/recovery will probably suffer during the transition, but if I were shooting for the max I could sustain for 30-60 seconds (which is more what you want for HIIT), I'd be aiming closer to 10mph give or take. But yeah, approach that very gingerly, you don't wanna get sandpapered off the machine.

That's good advice, using planet fitness runners as a baseline for what is considered a good pace was a bad idea, I'm screenshotting your post to follow tomorrow morning, thanks for the advice

Bro... HIIT is supposed to be the max performance you can manage and I doubt you can sprint for 3 minutes straight. As soon as your performance drops, it isn't HIIT anymore.
I'm not trying to mog you but I am sure you can do better than me!

Very decent for your weight. Going from 34:36 to 30 seems like a huge increase in speed to me, though, you might want to try to reach something like 32:30 first. Best of luck.

      Thanks bro!

      A casual runner with a sub-15 5k? Never competed?

That's like a "competitive at the national level" time. Do you have proof?

I didn't say never competed, I said I don't now. I got to state in high school and can merk a parkrun but I do nothing more. Just love running. Also I'm no way near national standard as I live in Australia.

        >22:31 is the average 5k time across men of all ages
Yea no. When you consider most people don't run at all. But yea, 15 minutes is an absolutely insane time and unachievable if you don't specifically train for it.

Not him but you're really underestimating how many people can run 5k at ~15 minutes. I've done running in high school and when the season hit it was 3 months were we'd do either meetings or street/cross country every weekend.
Thanks to that I've been running in God knows where dead places with nothing but fire station built in 1900 and mayors home, typically 5k or 10k. Around 50 people and there he is - some random going at 3:00 pace. Every single time.

    I'm a midfit with a pretty standard 30minute 5k.

Rooning question, I find it hard to fit running into my schedule, but I enjoy it as a noncompetitive means of keeping fit. I'd love to just do the standard "5k every other day," but it'd be simplest if I could do just two nonconsecutive runs per week and make them big ones: one 10k and one 15k (simply because these are the distances to two locations I need to visit each week, where running would be an appropriate method of getting there).
Would attempting this just give me shin splints and a heart attack? I feel like the intensity combined with the lack of frequency could become a problem.
Other info, I also lift twice a week, and once or twice I also do something else physical (dancing, hiking, swimming, rock climbing, whatever). So these two runs wouldn't be my sole exercise. I'm capable of comfortably running a 10k in about 65min, but I've never attempted longer than that.

My best in recent memory was just under 24:00. I’m training for a marathon later this year but I haven’t pushed to see what kind of 5k I could do since the long runs are leaving me perpetually winded.

24:01 (kill me) at 6' 190lbs. Been running for 5 months or so, averaging about 20km/w for the last couple months. Do I have to increase weekly volume or can I just try to push the pace on my runs? I'm mainly interested in getting faster in the mile to 5k range.

It's not that surprising, 5k in 20m at IST weight is equivalent to 16m at twink weight. The only surprising thing is that people are actually being honest about their times.

Why? The vast majority of people can't run a 5k at all. Just keep at it and you'll get there in no time.
