Thanks mate. I started seriously running as a freshman in high school, so like 15. Did track, cross country, winter track all year. 23 now, still run pretty regularly.

BMI is stupid because it uses a two dimensional number (height squared) for a three dimensional object (your body). If it's useful for people of average height, it's not useful for short and tall people whose ideal volume changes more than height squared. F]

Fricking idiot who invented it should have used height ^3.

      >Fricking idiot who invented it should have used height ^3.
      Someone who weighs 128kg (280 lbs) with a height of 5'9" (175 cm) has m/h^3 = 24 (BMI > 40) meanwhile someone who is 5'6" (168 cm) and weighs 70 kg (154 lbs) has m/h^3 = 15 (BMI = 25). Looks like you'd lose precision.

I'm not looking at examples of those individuals so I don't know what point you've made, but I do know that if you compare people 4'11" and 6'6" with the SAME bmi, the midget will be relatively fat and the lanklet will be relatively thin.

    >using BMI instead of BF%
Fricking moronic. Wish BMI would die. Formula was originally developed in the early 19th century as a quick and simple way to assess the average weight status of a population. Was not intended to be used as a diagnostic tool for individuals. It does not take into account factors such as muscle mass, bone density, overall body composition, and racial and sex differences. This causes misclassifications, especially for individuals with high muscle mass, like athletes, or those with different body compositions. Other measures such as waist circumference, body fat percentage, and overall fitness levels are better.
    >tl;dr: BMI is useless, use other metrics.

Preach it brother. It doesn't account for people with ripped cores.

Why do people act like you have to be some kind of elite bodybuilder to get a overweight or obese bmi? A untrained person can add 30 pounds of muscle over a few years a be considered obese.

I feel I am the perfect size. About 11% body fat. No desire to gain weight.
Enough muscle to hit 1/2/3/4, slender enough to run distance without wrecking my legs
