Of all the godfricked posts in this godraped place, I just had to stumble upon yours. This is the most autistic, most infuriatingly abnormal bullshit I've ever fricking read on a website that is lowkey funded by the government to act as a neckbeard autist containment zone, so maybe some of you mouthbreathers won't shoot up a school, being too busy arguing about which waifu would give the best footjobs if waifus were real and you had a dick long enough for footjobs.
Your bullshit singlehandedly managed to ruin my fricking day by reminding me that yes, mongoloids like you actually exist, you live among us, I have to share my air with you, and it's not legal to eradicate you from the gene pool.
Thanks a lot, trisomic non fren.

Dude in the medical field here.

Since I know my shit a bit more than the average person, I was able to convince the Family-Medicine Residents I saw to put me straight on bupropion (a.k.a. Wellbutrin) which is an NDRI (norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor) and aminoketone. Originally I was trying to get prescribed selegiline (a.k.a. Emsam) after I heard about SBF, but the residents were scared since it's a MAOI (despite being transdermal and I was requesting at the lowest dosage) and I'd have to go through a psychiatric consult so frick that extra work.

Best I can tell you is that with the NDRI I definitely seen a significance in performance at least indirectly. It's made me more energetic, less-stressed, and ironically more emotionally stable (one of the common SE is irritability and AE is homicidal ideation). Before I'd be more likely to beat myself the frick up for not reaching fitness goals (sometimes unrealistically) which consequently would get me demotivated easily and/or straight up just be lazy: I'd more likely cut workouts sooner from feelings of disappointment or just straight up excuse myself not to go. On the NDRI, I'm more consistent working out and consequently getting good gains again.

I'd assume with an SSRI it'd probably help with your workouts indirectly. With Benzos, I'd assume it'd probably hinder your workouts cause they are sedatives.

        TL;DR:

Personally, I can advocate that taking an antidepressant like bupropion (which increases your norepinephrine [energy] and dopamine [sense of reward/happiness] levels, and not serotonin [confidence]) at least in an indirect way helped me with my workouts consistently. My conjecture regarding SSRIs (Selective-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) is that they'd also help with your workouts. Regarding Benzos (benzodiazepines like Xanax), I'd conjecture it'd make your workouts worse cause they are sedatives.

bupropion also kills hunger and is great for a cut

Performance dip is an understatement. You’re not going to be going to the gym at all once you’re on benzos and SSRIs. As in you’ll have no motivation to do it.

I don’t have it on hand, but I once saw a Wojak meme that perfectly encapsulates the experience of being on SSRIs. On the left frame of the meme, the text says “What I imagined being on anti-depressants would be like.” It shows Wojak outside with the sun shining on him and he’s got a smile. Then the right frame of the meme, the text says “What being on anti-depressants is actually like,” and it shows Wojak’s face in black and white, his expression completely deleted so there’s no expression at all, just the outline of his head. Anti-depressants don’t make you happy. They’re not called “happy pills” for a reason.

Doctors don’t really understand what causes mental disorders like depression and OCD. They have even less of an understanding of why some drugs seem to treat (or not treat) certain people. The mechanics aren’t understood. We’re in a sort of mental health treatment dark age without realizing it. These medications are so dangerous that, a number of years after having stopped taking them, I’ve refused to go back on them despite experiencing what I’m fairly sure are regular panic attacks and bouts of massive depression. The people who recommend benzos and SSRIs as magic pills to make their problems go away have no idea what they’re talking about. Those pills are dangerous. You shouldn’t be seriously considering taking them unless you genuinely think you’re in danger of committing suicide or unless you’ve been hospitalized for a psychiatric emergency.

Benzos are only dangerous if you take them every day like a moron. once or twice a week max.

Lifting on benzos sounds adjacent to "dont operate heavy machinery while on these"

SSRI's should be fine as long as you dont have any negative side effects to them

I have never met a person who used benzos and came out on the other side saying that it was a net positive for their mental health. They always talk about how addictive it is followed by the hellish withdrawals.

At least SSRIs seem to have some success stories

Neither influenced my performance at all. SSRIs made me more constitent with gym tho, i think looking back. Actually same with neurol/benzo since i would get nauseous if i worked out anxious. But i only took low dose of neurol and not for long time

Did benzos for a while (several years). I didn't notice huge performance improvements, but I got more consistent with my workouts and work in daily life.
