when to stop bulking?

i started my first bulk ever mid december and i have gained 35lbs since then, went from 155 to 190. i think i am making gains but also not sure if it's all just fat. how long does one typically bulk for? when is a good time to stop?

If this is your first bulk 6 months is usually a good milestone for a first bulk. You can definitely slow your roll a bit by lowering the calories if it feels like too much fat. But you're going to progressively go towards longer and lower calorie bulks to minimize the amount of time you have to spend cutting and the inevitable reductions in training volume that comes with cuts.

All you're doing with your undisciplined "bulk" is putting on fat you'll have the burden of later taking off. You're just adding extra steps to your goals. In other words, you are bulking too hard if you can't tell what's fat and what is muscle.

    >gaining over 70lbs in a year
jesus fricking christ you are genuinely fricking braindead. Pic rel is 178lbs but im sure you packed so much muscle and made great gains dude =) im sure that now you go on a cut you will look basically the same because man yo went past him to 190lbs :PPP must mean that you are a big dude 🙂

There is no "typical bulk" or time requirement. You could bulk the first 2 years, 3 years and then cut. Or you could bulk 4 months, maintenance 4 months, cut 4 months. Or bulk 6 months, cut 3 months, maintenance a while, then go back on a bulk. Like there is no fricking blueprint.

But if your goal was to gain muscle and you were 155lbs in december you "should" be now about 160lbs. 165lbs AT THE ABSOLUTE FRICKING TOP even that is mostly fat but it would have been reasonable.

It is all just fat since you can't gain that much muscle in such a short period, unless you roid.
