I log what I eat in that my fitness pal phone app because it has a large user base so it's unlikely I'll encounter some sort of meal I can't already find entered in there with accurate calories and nutritional values. It's helpful for keeping track of where I am in a day, hitting macros, etc. They have a paid version, idk what that even does because I can use it for what I need it to do for free so I just ignore everything trying to suck money out of me.

Cronometer is supposed to be a good one too. I think both of them allow you to track exercise and set daily caloric value goals, etc. so you know where you stand.

      Anonymous

The large user base is the only reason I was going to stay with MFP. I gave LoseIt a go for a few weeks and didn't encounter a single item it didn't have in the data base so I made the switch. It's been a few months now and I much prefer LoseIt and STILL haven't scanned a barcode that hasn't had nutritional info.

        Anonymous

Yeah, that's the main problem I've had with a few others I've tried out. It's not like my fitness pal is great or anything but there are so many people who use it most of what I can find is in there, even more local or regional restaurants in my area are in there with accurate nutritional information so I don't have to frick around with entering it manually.

          Anonymous

Do you know if those restaurants actually put the info up themselves? If not it's highly likely some rando pleb took a guess at it. Make the switch and make the guess yourself man.

            Anonymous

It's a mixed bag. Usually I assume it was some rando if the extra nutritional information isn't available. It sort of depends, and I don't eat out much to begin with, but I was surprised to find like a chicken pita at some one off restaurant near me was in the app and the nutritional information matched what was listed at the store. Like I said though, cronometer is good also. More detail on nutrients beyond caloric values and macros. Less helpful for logging specific exercise if I recall. I think there was just a generic "how active are you?" question they ask to give you a general TDEE and then it's just logging food. OP didn't ask how do you track workouts though so it's probably not relevant.

              Anonymous

Okay that sounds pretty decent though, if it's a chain then the info should be there in other apps byt hey if not you can always help add to the database as your good deed of the day. Chronometer looked okay too, I just prefered the UI of Lose It and the quiz at the start. It's mad that it has a function for lower calories in weekdays, higher calories on weekends.
Also, yeah I just have a Garmin tracker so I use that. From what I can tell most apps rip workout data from Garmin and Fitbit nowadays so they're all kind of equal to me there.

Yeah, there are a few good ones, app loyalty is stupid there are some paywalled features you might want from one that another has for free, etc. just try a few of them for a day or two, log all your stuff in each one, see which one you hate the least and go with it.

I used MFP for 10+ years but it went down the drain mid to late last year by paywalling a bunch of basic features. Plus the UI got progressively worse.
Made the switch to LoseIt and I much prefer it.

Homer is barely 300 pounds there but they draw him like he is 400. Homer also isn’t particularly short so the only explanation is they don’t have any idea what fat is. This is so triggering to an infinifat like myself.

The bar for who was labelled as fat in the 90s was much lower. Nowadays there will be literal obese hamtards hobbling around and people know will STILL say they "aren't that big". Societies standards have dropped. Homer is drawn EXACTLY how a 300 pound person looks. If this kind of mindset you just shat out keeps you happy you're never going to make it and might as well end it all now.

For the rest of the world, that's just shy of 118kg. Homer on an every day basis absolutely looks like the people I know who weigh 118kg and they all look like fat slobs who are absolutely obese (unless they're 198cm/5'6" in which case they're just severely overweight).
Yet I still have people referring to them as "a bit soft but I wouldn't call them obese". Frick fat acceptance, I don't want my mates to die of heart disease in their 40s because some fat c**ts wanted to not have their feelings hurt.

Based captain. Still though, even the term "dad bod" is shit. Just call them tubby c**ts. I say this as someone who is currently mad overweight and doing something about it. Don't sugar coat shit, it doesn't help.

I've found Lose It to be much friendly and less buggier than MFP for meal prep. Plus, the vast majority of things you just put in grams (or ounces if you're American) whereas MFP most of the time you have to use "serves" so you end up with weird decimals like 0.825 serves of beans or some shit.

This thread made me download Lose it. Many thanks to the Anons who recommendet it, I'm starting now and if I follow through I will go from 77 kg to 60 kg at 174 cm by June 19.

      Anonymous

You won't be 60 kg if you workout and it's normal. Muscles are denser than fat. You lose fast and you gain muscles which will stagnate weight loss. Focus on losing fat not weight.

        Anonymous

I put in 60 kg as goal weight because that's the low end of a healthy BMI for my height, but what I really want is to get lean and then slowly work up from that. I'm a DYEL and it's especially my core that's limiting my progress so I'm taking some time now to work on it while getting skinnier before putting more effort into gaining strength. I mainly don't want to be a fat frick wheezing in an armchair when I'm 50, but if I could also look good throughout my 30's I want that to happen too. I just want to see what I look like without the baby cheeks.

Cronometer is based, and have pretty decent database. If you scan something and the app find no results in database, most of the time just typing the prod name + company solve this issue. Only withdraw is that they hide some of the basic features behind subscription. I have been using daily for 3 or more moths and this the features the free version is lacking:
    Manually setting macros goal
    Making recipes in quick mode
    Log time
That's pretty much everything bad I have against it
