lat pulldown is overall better for much more precise programming and variations, pullups have better activation but are much more limited

Pull-up is a better test of fitness because it filters powerfats. Also one of the few genuinely functional exercises worth training.

I never understood why Powershitters can't do a pullup. They swing around ridiculous weights but can't pull their own bodyweight? I mean, they lift far heavier than they are so they should be able to pull themselves up, right?

Oddly enough, when I am leaner and don't look “fit” with a slight gut I can knock out like 35 dead hang pull ups and do like 10 from my fingertips off a door frame, but if I gain 10lbs of straight muscle and start looking lean and ripped I can only do like 20 pull ups.
I used to fight and noticed I always performed better when I didn’t look aesthetic, but would perform like shit when I looked good.

numbers are pulled out of ur arse bot - 20 is awesome for a kid that weighs nothing, the more u weigh the less pullups u will do irregardles of body composition - my post above u explained it

            >pulled out of my ass
Nope, I weigh 185 doing 35 dead hang wife grip, I can still knock out 20 of the same at 200 lbs.
I know fat fricks like you cannot even comprehend it, but the marine corps (back before king Black person) required 20 dead hang pull ups to get a 300 on your fitness test, and at least a third of my battalion could hit that 20.
Fatties cannot comprehend how easy pull ups are for non fats. But again, oddly enough I knock out more when I don’t look good vs when I do look good.

I train "powerlifting" and pull-ups were always a strong point, even now when I am relatively fat at 200lbs I can still do 3x10.
I think the dividing line is if you've been at a lower BW and got good at pull-ups, you'll continue to be good at them despite getting heavier. If you started as a fatso you never learned how to do them.

lat pull down and its variations (my fav is close hammer grip) is kino. its so easy to mog powersharters thinking theyre strong when they pull like 120kg at 100kg+ bodyweight. exercise and fitness wise pull ups are better unless uve got some advanced targeting certain muscles / moves. for example one arm lat pull down is very nice when u train for one arm pull up.

Something about not moving extraneous weight just instantly causes zero muscle gain whatsoever. You would get further in 2 months benching than doing pushups for about a year.

I don't believe one is superior to the other. Obviously lat pulldowns can be more precisely programmed with reps & weight. It's easier to cheat on pull-ups, but they may be slightly more effective.

    You should do both IMHO.
