Meat is manmade and filled with hormones

Rice is better, or less bad, depending on how you look at it. Potatoes aren't healthy, in their wild form are extremely toxic and all that has changed is that they have been engineered to be edible. We've only been eating them in the west for about 500 years we are not really adapted to them to any great extent.

Of course some screeching vegan moron will be in here to debooonk this but when it comes to carbs the more natural ones are better. The earlier they were introduced as food groups to your ancestors, the better. So rice, berries, fermented vegetables, stuff like that is better than modern foods like potatoes or grains.

Potatoes if you want to lose weight by a mile, higher satiety and much higher in nutrients too.
Rice if you want to feel less full to make weight gain easier, but you can still obviously lose weight eating it. Significantly less nutritionally dense too so have to keep that in mind.

Surprised to see potatoes higher than lentils, you'd think with all the fiber in lentils, the satiety index would be much higher.

Apparently in the gut some of the substances contained in potatoes ferment into short chain fatty acids that promote uniquely high levels of satiety.

          3. even if it doesn't- one word: microplastics

          >that cut hiding that he's probably stood there spinning his potatoes for 25 minutes only to reveal that there are still spots on the potato that needs cleaning up

Doesn't that just limit how much of it our digestive system can utilize?

I'm not sure what you mean but yes it means a lot of the nutrition is not bioavailable (but this is true across the plant kingdom and isn't unique to potatoes) since we aren't adapted to its extraction, but also it means that in trying to extract those nutrients the body is harmed in various ways by compounds within the food.

In potatoes the most clear case of this is with phytates. Potatoes contain a ton of phytates, in any cooked form. There is quite a lot of activism on the internet to deny facts about phytic acid and phytates but the reality is that they have a drastic effect on nutrient absorption to the extent that eating enough phytate-containing foods can block certain nutrients completely.

Eating only small amounts of potatoes won't have a singificant effect and can be part of a healthy diet, but it's foolish not to understand that potatoes in higher quantities are toxic. I've attached a graph of how phytic-acid containing foods can block zinc absorption entirely from oysters. The next time you think about taking a zinc supplement, consider maybe reducing these sorts of plant foods instead.

Rice is a grain, though. Like wheat, we've only started eating it in the last 10,000 years. Fruit is ideal.

      >Potatoes aren't healthy, in their wild form are extremely toxic and all that has changed is that they have been engineered to be edible.

This is true of essentially every fruit, vegetable, and even livestock that we eat today. Modern society is possible because prehistoric humans figured out how to selectively breed plants and animals to produce new generations with desired traits. It's not some Monsanto genetic engineering dystopia (and genetic engineering in and of itself isn't automatically bad, either). It's literally just the basics of agriculture.

Slicile potatoes into cubes (or fries), rinse off the starch, boil them for 2 minutes (with a generous dash of vinegar), dry them off, toss them in a bit of olive oil afterwards and put them in the oven until they're crispy and golden.

Is there anything bad about this recipe? Because they taste fantastic. Especially with homemade sour cream.
