I want to say the stretcher ones seems like a really neglected movement and might be why wrists are kind of imbalanced. I have lots of those grippers and i don't think they do anything but hurt my palm bones over 200 lbs

Yeah I saw a video that said it doesn’t develop thumbs

The fricks the left one even for, in practical terms? I can't think of a situation where I have had to expand my fingers on one hand against significant resistance. Maybe for a Gynecologist who lost their speculum and is improvising, shove a hand in and pry that fricker open.

      Exercising isn’t practical

The gripper is better for forearm development

      You sure? Any evidence?

      Extensors.

You know the idea of push / pull?

Same exists in your hands. When you are using your hand on a mouse, it stays in 1 position for a long time, hyper-developing the retractors.

This aims to exercise the extensors and balance the opposing muscle group

Some muscles don't really need to be balanced out.

I saw a video where Martins Licis was talking about grip and said he does extensor stuff with rubber bands while he's driving to avoid tendon issues. His take was that you do need balancing out if you do lots of grip work.

Yeah I’ve heard those bands, rice/sand buckets can help with elbow and wrist tendinitis. As a weightlifter we do a lot of hard gripping so it make sense to do the opposite movement with resistance to avoid imbalances.

I'm aware of push/pull, I was just asking if there even is practical applications, as opposed to just building for looks.

Flicking harder. True masters of the extensor can vaporize a fly, flick hard enough to bruise anyone instantly on contact, and launch a marble hard enough that it can embed itself in the skin of an opponent.

This guys sold me though, obliterating a fly sounds lulzworthy.

The non-funny answer is that it probably helps with agility, like when you need to go from a closed fist to an open hand as quickly as possible. Also the extensor muscles have long-heads that run further down your wrist so, while you can't make your wrist MUCH bigger you can potentially get another quarter or half an inch with pump.

If you want to make your wrist bigger, work on rotations rather than push/pull muscles of the fores.

Its when your grip has gone dead from crushing someone's hand and have to pull your fingers apart again, moron.

Both, duh. The bands are post-workout so your fingers don't get too stiff from overtraining one movement pattern.

They're completely different, one is strength closing the hand, the other is finger extensor strength. Do both.
