No one eats lard in the US. Even finding lard in the US is near impossible.
I'm no ketogay (in fact my own diet has a lot of rice and potato), but I do think lard would be an improvement over the shit in American food. My grandparents cooked everything in lard and never got fat.
People eat too much of everything in general. Very few people even have distinct meals any more, they just snack constantly, always prepackaged food that if you look closely at the labels, contain ingredients whose names you can't even pronounce. No one cooks.

fpbp, also their soda is dirt cheap and you get free refills everywhere

I'm convinced this is in at least the top 5 reasons why Americans are fat. If you order a soda in practically any restaurant, especially fast food restaurants, you can refill as much as you want and the cup is at least 20 ounces. Drinking two cups of soda that big is like 600 calories, and 20 ounces is usually the small cup. 32 ounce is much more common.

The pizza alone would be fine. It's the corn syrup that is the real culprit. No one can bulk to that size without 4000-6000 empty soda calories.

In a world where your stomach and general biochemistry prevents you from overeating (even on the fat lards in OP picture) unless you gulp hfcs with acid
on healthy people add stomach size as a limiting factor

I am with the anon you quotes
the pizza is not the issue in ops pic
it isnt healthy, but no one can reach the mass of those hamplanets without soda

It would require to change whole culture. Make people walk more or use bicycles. Make people cook more instead of ordering food. Stop connecting any leisure time with eating snacks.

if they stop using sugar and high-fructose-corn-syrup , in litterally everything, that would probably fix 40% of the problem, the rest has to be achieved through being more physically active.

Unironically it's city architecture. I live in Northern Ireland and wouldn't think twice about walking 10-15 minutes to go to a shop.
That is simply not feasible in America, most people live at minimum an hour away from their local store.
Even in areas where the store is closer, the layout is directly hostile to pedestrians. I spend half the year in the american midwest and trying to get anywhere without a car is a fricking nightmare.
Especially in winter, every other year I spend the winter in Wisconsin and trying to get your cardio in is a fricking deathtrap. They don't even grit half their pavements.

Bad city planning mixed with ludicrous sizings of pretty much everything is the cause.

A small increase in calorie consumption and decrease in physical activity adds up pretty quickly (1 pound bf=3500 calories). That's literally it. People eat a little more and do a little less physical work and it's been a complete disaster.

The problem is entirely with calorie dense foods being selected over nutrient dense foods.

If every fast food place switched to wholemeal bread, used less/different meats and cheese, had sweet potato fries, etc, the problem would disappear, I guarantee it. Even the sticky acknowledges diet as "the single most important factor", but, as far as I know, it doesn't paint the full picture.

Beyond the importance of hitting macros, or eating at a caloric deficit, there's also proper nutrition. You need a truly balanced diet to even know when it's time to stop eating. Everything ultimately comes down to nutrition because, beyond respiration, everything our body is composed of is about what we eat and drink. You might be able to drive a few kilometres with a flat tire, but you're not going to make it interstate without seriously damaging the car. By having shit nutrition these people have shit brains that fail to stop them eating shit.

God why are there so many morons who immediately say sugar (don’t even get me started on midwits and high fructose corn syrup). Consumption of sugar is actually starting to decrease yet people are still getting fatter. It’s just eating too much especially too much processed shit. I’ve lived in Europe and asia and while people are getting fatter there too they have the benefit of having more traditional foods that they still eat that are relatively unprocessed. For most Americans we don’t really have that. So people eat whatever shit is being marketed to them whether it’s Cheetos for poor people or gluten free organic bullshit that still makes you fat for yuppies. Literally every person I know acts like I slapped their mother when I drink a soda yet they’re fat and I’m not because most of the time I’m eating chicken rice and vegetables. It’s always some fricking scapegoat in the US instead of just eating unprocessed simple food for most of your diet

        Anonymous

it's really just overconsumption of highly processed foods that are filled with both sugar and fat with no nutrient density whatsoever that essentially turns you into an addict and doesn't provide any satiation.

        Midwit take.
You're looking at population-level consumption without appreciating the differences hidden by averages.
Sure, sugar consumption is going down, on average, but the fat fricks are still consuming way too much. There are more people these days who eat little or no added sugar, bringing down the average.
