Why are fat people obsessed with fasting, intermittent fasting, and OMAD?

Don't they realize that going extended periods without food (specifically protein) is catabolic to muscle?

Reminder that intermittent fasting, keto, paleo,t etc is associated with the alt-right fascism movement, especially if combined with weightlifting and self-improvement. A carnivore diet is cruel, unethical, and not environmentally sustainable and carbon emissions from cows are responsible for global warming. IDW and jordan peterson fanboys are all on similar diets and as such fasting is highly correlated with transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, and racism. Phrases like "stop eating carbs" and "clean your room" is a dogwhistle for transphobic chuds.

Fat people don't realize that the only reason they can get away with these diet memes is that they're *fat*, and they barely get any exercise, so they have more than enough stored energy in their hamfolds to cost on for hours or even days at a time.

Former fatty, now full shitlord. I actually don't mind IF, I maintain a 6/18 just because that's when I'm hungry. I don't plan my schedule around it, though. But honestly, this is a fast in name only.
I do an extended fast (72-96) hours a few times a year or so, not for weight control, but whenever I just feel like I need to reset shit. After the first day or so, it's a pretty good feeling. There is some evidence of HGH and other hormonal benefits.

tl;dr for those on their way or already fit, fasting schemes may have some benefit, for fatties looking for easy outs, they are pure gimmick

no. if you eat once until satiety, you end up eating less than if you eat 20 times but never feel full and constantly want more.

but as I said, I personally think this is mostly a matter of getting rid of shitty habits rather than some low level physiological thing - based on my personal experience anyway

No. Most people eat by a 10:14 schedule. They're not eating a bunch of food in only 2 hours and stopping there, like you're suggesting. They're eating a lot of food over a 10 hour period. Your argument is very poorly thought out.

  12. 2 years ago

Have there even been any solid studies done on IF? Everyone always claims some wild bullshit about it, but almost nobody has any way of backing it up and its getting more and more wild and mystical sounding as the years go on.

      Anonymous

I do IF but I don't believe it does anything other than make sticking to whatever diet you have, easier. You basically train your body to not get hungry outside of the eating window so less risk of overeating. I still do CICO to control my weight.

        Anonymous

Yeah, the window of eating making it easier to control possible overeating makes total sense.

But I see shit like "my insulin levels are super low!" or "my bf% has gone done 5% in 2 months!!" or "bro fasting spiked my HGH I'm shredded as fuarrk" but next to nothing to back any of it up. Seems like most of the shit people claim is placebo/assumption.

          Anonymous

          >"my insulin levels are super low!"
well, your insuling does go down within a dozen or so hours after eating so in a sense it's correct. insulin spiking can also make you less sensitive to food and therefore also induce overeating, from what I've heard. but I'm not sure how big of a deal this is, IMO it's mainly psychological/neurological, your brain stops sending pangs of hunger in the morning or in the evening. and you get rid of nightly snacking habits

            Anonymous

Yeah, makes sense. I've had fat family members treating it like its a miracle cure, but in reality its mostly a method to reform eating habits it seems, which is what I personally recommend it as. I don't think its triggering significant physical changes in the body at all on its own.

    >Why are fat people obsessed with
Because if there isn't some big secret to losing weight, some arcane knowledge hidden from the general public, that just means that they're fat because they're stupid and / or can't control themselves. Because it really can't be as simple as eating less, that would mean that they're idiots for getting fat and total losers for being unable to do anything about it. There has to be some holy grail of weight loss, because if there isn't they're just fat sacks of shit.
    In short: it's cope.

      >>omad: big fricking meal once a day then coffee for the rest!
What's funny about this is healthy food is nowhere near calorically dense enough for even someone like me (140 lbs., 5'9") to get enough calories and meet my protein requirements in one sitting.
I eat three "big meals" daily, but because they're heavy on lean protein and vegetables, with fruit for desert, they usually come out to only 600-900 calories.
I shudder to imagine what the average obese OMADer's one meal looks like.

In my experience only eternal fat fricks are obsessed with meme diets. They're not interested in actually losing fat, they're just interested in coping with their eating disorder.
To actually lose fat, it's simple :
    >Find out the shit that makes you hungry/overeat etc and don't buy it anymore
    >Don't eat the obvious fast/processed food and sweets garbage
    >Just eat whatever the frick you like otherwise.
    >Stay in your macros, don't eat too many calories and try to get enough protein.
    >Lift weights
that's it. it doesn't fricking matter when you eat or if you fast or not or whatever

      Anonymous

Yeah it feels like these meme diets are all putting the cart before the horse. They just need to practice the very basics. Stop eating junk food, stop eating fast food, and make your own meals. Eat 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and try to eat mainly meat, fruit, veggies, and some rice/potatoes. Work out 3-4x a week for 30-45 min. That's it. Doing that will do wonders alone, and you can adjust things as you get in better and better shape.

It’s faster and easier than maintaining a low level of hunger for several weeks/months. You can fast for two days and lose more fat than you would on a 500cal deficit for a week. On your off days, eating a small meal satiates your hunger. There’s really no downsides to fasting other than the willpower it takes the first couple times you do it.

At my heaviest I was 360lbs (now 220 @6"5) so I suspect I can shed some light on the mind of a landwhale.

Often, the landwhale will get the urge to fix themselves, as you would expect. A relatively healthy person can get a burst of motivation to improve themselves, and push with exercise, and usually fall off in a few weeks. Fatties really can't do the exercise to the same degree without injury, believe me, I tried. They have that same level of temporary drive though, what's that leave? Diet. Omad, if, keto, fasting, to someone addicted to food these are as hard as an hour run followed by 20 minutes ladder springs are to a normal person, and have about the same fall off period

The difference is, if someone wants to get lean in a month or two and is fairly close, they can. Fatties, no matter what they do, cannot go from obese to lean in that time, so when they realize this, they fall off

TL;DR: fatties like everyone want fast results, but because of their general health level go for extreme diet not extreme exercise

    >Don't they realize that going extended periods without food (specifically protein) is catabolic to muscle?
They don't need muscle and don't really think about it. And if they do care, they will simply lift without eating. It's that simple.

Fat people are trying to find a loophole/trick to lose weight. Because eating less doesn't compute to them. There NEEDS to be a secret strategy.
They're so stuck in their ways they're trying to trick themselves into losing weight, instead of just doing the bare basic, proven and simple method of losing weight.
    Eat less, move more.
Counting calories is too much work for them.

I've been IF for so m be to be now and I feel like it had helped me get a bit leaner. But I'm only doing short fasts between 18 and 36 hours.
I don't believe all the crap about rejuvenation and building lean muscle.

I'm ripped and I do OMAD. I don't obsess over it or even see it as fasting, it's just a much more efficient and healthier way to eat.

On the contrary, it's people eating multiple times a day and god forbid using tracking apps and meal prepping tupperware who are mentally ill and have an eating disorder.

Meanwhile I cook up a huge feast of meat, eggs, fish and other goodies once a day and then never think about food for the next 24 hours.

I am fat and trying to get healthy. Currently eating at a calorie deficit and working out 6 days a week. 6'3 300lbs I've lost 20lbs in a little less than a month. Goal weight is 195. Please tell me if I should be doing anything differently. Inb4 kys.

    >Breakfast is a banana, black coffee, protein shake
    >Lunch is a small portion of meat and cheese
    >Dinner is usually a piece of chicken breast with a small portion of rice or something similar

20lbs in a month is very good progress, so keep it up
Don’t get discouraged when you start to plateau. If it lasts longer than two weeks try lower your calorie intake a bit.

And do your best to stay off cheat meals. If the cravings get you, at least try to limit it to small amounts. But don’t eat anything fried, sugar or soda. Just make a hamburger with a salad as the side.

The slight protein breakdown from fasting is not muscle breakdown, its supporting connective tissues. If any time humans went hungry for a week they started deleting muscles we would have died out long ago.

      You're literally moronic.
We have studies of existing hunter gather populations, and NONE of them go weeks or even days at a time without eating

its absolutely hilarious that people think tribes went days without food, regularly. when all tribes today eat regularly. the only time they did fasting was for religious reasons.

genuine question though: how do you find a balance between losing weight without losing muscle? i feel like every article says 'youre too fat to do this right away so just go for walks first!' but how to break from just the walks? everything i read makes it seem like i'll break my back if i try to jog but i'm not even 180

short term fasts actually increase muscle better than trenbologna.
Seriously, short term 1-3 days are not catabolic and in some cases, 5 day fasts are not catabolic.

I have never been fat but I still never eat until after work, or at least the afternoon. I eat however I want and if I eventually get a little soft, I fast for a couple days. Only need to do that a couple times a year max.
    >b-b-but you'll lose all your gains!!!
I've done several 5 day fasts and a few years back I went for 10 days to see what would happen. No strength loses. And I can do 2/3/4/5

There is nothing masculine about restricting food and the fact that the israelites have convinced you that starving yourself doesn't make you a femboy freshening up to get his bussy pounded proves how gullible you are

all research we have on meal timing and dieting say its better to properly distribute protein and and extreme deficits affects muscle loss
but fasting people think its magic and if you go to the msot extreme deficit, with the least amount of protein this doesnt happen.

      its an absolute joke
      >but mah 500% increase in HGH
its a short spike, with no long term effect, and any kcal deficit increases HGH

Fasting is catabolic but it doesn’t preferentially target muscle if you are active.

    t. Have lifted on no-food for a week and maintained my strength throughout.

Try it instead of sperging out at someone doing something different from you.

      See

      >catabolic to muscle
      >People back in the stone ages mainly lived off of the occasional big game and sporadic berries
      >Between those meals they fasted
      >They need muscle to hunt food
      >Somehow prolonged times of not eating is (mainly) catabolic to muscle
Each and every human with the priority first set on the muscle to metabolize into energy would die off pretty quick. They probably have.
Either the logic you are using is flawed or you put focus on the wrong aspect of this.

Fat people must be fasting wrong then. I do OMAD + protein shakes and it helped he a lot.
    >energy levels remain constant during the day, no more tiredness after lunch because I skip it
    >spend less money on food
    >lost 12 kilos in a year, at 14% bf right now
    >still eat like a pig (meal size wise, not in calories), except it's only 1 meal instead of multiple
Fatties must be doing something wrong.

Fat c**t here, I've been doing OMAD for 2 months and have dropped 35lbs so far. The trick is to not eat like a fat frick during your one meal and actually use CICO like a normal person would.

fasting spares muscle, as humans are designed to/meant for fasting.
