Why are people shitting on bench press nowadays?

>Bench press bad, dumbell press good...

because people like to follow trends. first we had dyel, then we had risk/reward ratio which is used in every situation, and now we have strength training is pointless trend coming soon

this is true though, bench requires a spot and can cause some wrist pain if you aren't a manlet, and dumbbell press activates more muscles and is more effective at building mass anyways

      >Bench requires a spot
No it doesn't. You can do the roll of shame if you fail a lift. A spot doesn't do anything but make it easier to rerack the weight if you fail a lift. They can't do shit if to prevent a catastrophic failure like a pec tear. If you get pain wear wraps.

Here's some dude doing the roll of shame with 3pl8 https://m.youtube.com/shorts/1lapDvEPngw. You're not Julius Maddox, you don't need a spot for your 2.5 plate bench.

Shit, I've done roll of shame at 365.

You don't have to lift heavy weights either, less risk of injury.

If you can't tell that you'd fail the next rep you are a DYEL and deserve to be killed by a barbell to the neck

Because it's a poor mass builder for most people, especially for the pecs when compared to dB press or flies. It's a good builder of strength though so I keep it in for that. But it's not a major focus of mine as a chest exercise because it barely even works my chest.

      Anonymous

If you care about mass you should be doing a program with a barbell and dumbbell press variation. You can move a lot more weight on BB and theres no reason you can't do both.

This is what I do, and machines because I feel the target muscle with less fatigue and joint stress on machines. Dbs for the stretch, Barbell for strength through a variable plain of motion. Extra wide grip bench with very flared arms hits my chest and shoulders best with normal bench mostly just hitting my triceps.

Yeah let the 150lb dyel lecture us about "mass builders" fricking moron

        Anonymous

I'm 205lbs and fairly lean with almost 4 years of lifting experience. But by all means cope more. Barbell bench does frick all for my chest. It's solid for my triceps though. If your goal is size and not just having a bit bench, then bench is just another tool to get you there. No exercise is irreplaceable. Find what gives you the best pump in the target muscle with as little joint pain or fatigue as possible.

Can't say as I haven't flat benched in about 4 months. But last PR was 230x10. I'll cycle back to it in another month or two probably when incline bench stops moving up. Been focusing more on shoulder development lately because that's what makes me fail on bench.

Believe it or not, bench hate isn't a recent phenomena. Dyels hate bench because they suck at it, then cope by trying to "ohp specialize." OHP is the easiest of 1/2/3/4.

To bz honest I always feel like bench press doesn't do shit, incline bench press however really turn your muscles on fire, and noticed large shoulders/chest difference after concentrating on it.

Yeah like this dyel that doesn't do bench. Of course you know more than him.

Because there is literally no point to using a barbell over dumbbells other than bigger numbers. Dumbbells also work a lot more smaller coordination muscles which will help you to avoid injury. It's the same principle for why weights are generally better than machines - machines only work a specific group of muscles.

Calisthenics > dumbbells > barbell > machines >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> smith machine.

OP you have to stop caring what people think

Have you seen the kinda crazy shit people believe?

You have to remember that it's meaningless when people judge you, even when you judge yourself. It doesn't matter, focus on better things. This is one of the core teachings of Christ.

    It is extremely liberating.

I do dumbell chest press because one of my pecs is naturally (I think) bigger than the other so I try to make the weaker looking one do the same amount of work as the other one if that makes sense.
With a bench press there's a greater chance the bigger pec will take most of the weight (right?)
