>depends on the person.
Yeah you're right. For me running is just so much worse that it feels like it's an objective truth.
Just pushing some sets to failure is nothing compared to completing a run for me.
6:45 isn’t that good mate. I ran 6:10 in high school gym class even though the only physical activity I did was playing tennis. If you run consistently/with progressive overload for a year you will surely get past 6:45, probably even below 6.
Sub 20 is the 2pl8 of running (shows you've been training consistently for a few months). Sub 19 is pretty much 3pl8 (training for a while, some never reach it).
Sub 19 is a requirement to be considered decent at highschool levels of running. Sub 17 is competitive, and sub 16 is nationally competitive. The percentiles are greatly skewed by oldgays and fatties who do the occasional 5k, and parents who force their kids to join the cross country team.
And I said no it doesn’t you fricking moron did you even look at OP photos? He will never bench 3 plate. I’ve actually done both so I know better than you and him.
Lifting only really takes willpower in the last couple of reps of every set.
I haven't benched 3pl8 (I haven't even benched 2pl8) but I will one day. It'll just take some discipline.
The amount of discipline I will need to get strong won't even bring me to run 5 kilometers because running feels so much harder.
You probably never actually ran to a similar level of competence. You're comparing a white-knuckle hours long weightlifting session to a casual jog, when you should be comparing it to running tempos or sprint repeats to exhaustion/nausea.
>running is a pure exploration of human will and power >running isn't fun
oh shut the frick up.
y'all morons shut the frick up.
running is a drug and if you don't know what i am talking about, y'all are lazy and never pushed yourself hard enough to truly get excellent at running.
i ran 240+ miles a month for most of 2021, peaking at 90 miles in a week once. I would frequently run 12-16 miles a day.
Every time I went for a run, I would get a runner's high within 15-30 minutes.
And it would last for hours (I would run 2-3 hours most days)
So shut the frick up saying it's all pain wah wah wahhh
If you run a LOT and get FIT and STRONG and have excellent cardio, if you run so much that you can run for hours on end without stopping, it's fricking ADDICTING and it FEELS GOOD
I would run in the mountains every day, in the forests. Not only would I get a runner's high, I would be in amazing nature, with nobody nearby, no noise. Pure silence, just me and the trees.

By who? Get the frick out of here with your specious accusation >When they have far more willpower than the average weight lifter
Not fricking true, AT ALL. I've transitioned to lifting and it takes considerably more willpower to get myself psyched up to do 30 minutes of squats and deadlifts than it does to LOL fricking throw in my airpods and listen to podcasts while I jog for an hour, WHAT A FRICKNG JOKE
this thread is full of fake ISTizen lazy-asses who don't know what the frick they are talking about. running is hard wahhhh shut the frick up
>why are runners looked down upon
Because you go on fringe internet homosexual porn sites where people of one leisurely activity "look down upon" practitioners of other leisurely activities
You're abnormal. Most of the time I didn't get runner's highs at all, and lifting gives a comfortable pump and soreness, whereas a strong tempo run or time trial makes you want to vomit.
>You're abnormal.
maybe if you compare me to normies, but i was in a casual running club/team. i was on the younger side amongst the club members, and yet i was one of the worst runners on the team. these people had been running for 20+ years, running since before highschool. a lot of them competed in college. i followed them on strava and i would see them run 15+ miles multiple times a week at 8 minute paces or faster. when i practiced with the team they wouldn't even be pushing themselves that hard and id be dying.
so yeah maybe im abnormal compared to general populace, but compared to what's humanly possible with some effort, i don't think im abnormal. also we're on IST so i should be less abnormal here than i am when i go shopping for groceries
I was a competitive D3 runner, and myself/much of my teammates mostly became lifters after running. Not all of us really got runner's highs.
>I was a competitive D3 runner, and myself/much of my teammates mostly became lifters after running. Not all of us really got runner's highs.

Also, if you want to maintain weight, you have to eat more oils. Carbs aren't going to be calorie-dense enough. Eat more fatty meats like chicken thighs/pork, alongside unsaturated fats like olive oil, nuts/seeds, fish, and flaxseed oil.
You're running with terrible form if you are hurting your hips. Not that I think you are running anyway, but you should shorten and quicken your strides so that your foot doesn't strike in front of your body; it should land pretty much underneath you a) so you don't lose momentum by "braking" and b) so you don't have waves of impact shock being transmitted through your knees and hips. Additionally learn to land on your toes or midfoot so your calves absorb the impact, and keep a bend in your knee when you land
The easiest way to do this is to run with a metronome in your headphones for a little while at ~180 bpm to get a sense of the right cadence. By speeding up your running cadence, you can make yourself stop overstriding which also tends to make you land on your midfoot
This is stupid and you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Running is a great core/lower body exercise. Calves are going to respond to low intensity high repetition 1000 times better than trying to overload them with weights in the gym, and you're gonna work most of your core muscles and get toned abs and obliques through running. On top of all that you get all the cardiovascular/pulmonary gains that massively improve your general sense of wellbeing and endurance, which translates even into exercise you do in the gym. You are likely visualizing marathon and supermarathon runners who have gone full skelly mode by pushing their running to absolute extremes--- if you're judging a form of exercise by those who've taken it to the extreme, you could have people saying that lifting gives you a terrible physique because of how ronnie coleman and disgusting roided freaks look. People who run long distance with tasteful moderation--- or who lift for hypertrophy with tasteful moderation--- look good
>why are runners looked down upon
Because you go on fringe internet homosexual porn sites where people of one leisurely activity "look down upon" practitioners of other leisurely activities
Ironically, it's still probably better for attracting women, since rooning melts fat very effectively. Rooners with six-packs >>> bloatlord powersharters.
I think the long sprints are harder tho - 400m, 800m - are probably the most painful rooning events.
Because a lot of them act holier than thou - just like a lot of cyclists.
It gives a bad name to the people that don't act like they are better than everyone.
High iq take is lots of committed endurance gays are successful in their careers and hard working people. They’re looked down on here because despite how running might reflect positively on their character traits it’s still pretty fricking stupid compared to bodybuilding from our point of view. You’ll look better than a fatty and the average guy, sure. But the average bro will mog you on an instinctive level face to face. Combining lifting with occasional endurance focused cardio if you still love it at that much is better for your health and joints and you will look and feel better. But, like I said I can recognize that people who are really able to push it in endurance sports are often successful in other areas as well so that I can recognize and respect
most anons that lift weights come from non athletic backgrounds, mostly spent their teens playing vidya in their rooms. So stuff like cardio don't blend well with them, that's why they end up with the bloated look. Just ignore them like you would do at high school.
who keeps perpetuating this bs that running fricks up your knees? I swear to god you fat FRICKS of fricking course you will wreck your knees if you're hauling around an extra 300lbs of pure blubber
45mins doing weights 3 times a week.
5k run 3 times a week.
That's pretty much all you need to look great and feel great and mog 99.9% of the population physically in every way that matters.
Going to hard into one or the other is a waste of time and energy unless you really specifically love to do one or the other and want to be exclusively very good at it.
Recently started feeling very nauseous after some runs and I don't know why. Did four half marathons in the last week. Two of them were much harder (one was a 30km hill trail run, and the other was just 21.1km but even hillier) and my legs felt knackered but I was otherwise fine. The other two were more straightforward (only about half the elevation gain) but after getting back I felt very sick and even feverish for up to two hours after returning.
What's going on? Apart from having the old runner's diarrhoea every now and then I haven't really experienced this before
Could be a factor I suppose, although in both the runs I felt really sick on (evening runs, 6-8pm) I felt worse than the ones I felt ok on morning runs (9.30-11.30am)
Tend to follow an intermittent fasting diet (only eat between 12-8pm) so on the runs I felt ok on, I'm actually doing it after having fasted for about 14 hours
Shouldn't I feel worse on those ones then? Or is it better because less time has elapsed since my big evening meal (usually carb heavy) from the night before?
Probably has to do with your weird diet, potentially has to do with too much or too little electrolytes. It is quite common for all high level runners to get nauseous after a harder than typical run though.
I've followed the diet for a good 5-6 years now, and been running for all of that time (although I'm running longer and more often now than I ever have before). I don't really think about the nutrition side at all though, never do anything more than just have a few sips of water before setting off, so maybe I need to look into that more
In that case, you're probably just running harder than usual. Congrats, this is what professional and semi-professional running is like. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2005/05/04/runners-football-players-cope-with-throwing-up-after-workout/61944110007/
it's pretty good for clearing out your bowels. i remember after every race the whole team would be in the stalls shitting and chatting through the walls.
Shitting is fine, but nausea is horrible tbh. Not quite so bad today (but still not great), but last week I was on the floor in a fever for two hours, couldn't even open my eyes properly. Tried making myself throw up to get it over and done with, but I'd just cleared out the bowels with a good shit so there was nothing to throw up
Never had anything like a coach tbh, not actually a club runner I just go out running a lot to get me out of the house. Never entered a race before but got my first formal marathon coming up later this year
Thanks, 29 now so I feel a bit old to get involved with any serious goals/training, but I enjoy the tranquillity of a nice long-distance run so I'll probably stick with it for quite a long time I think
I've done weightlifitng, long distance running and rowing. Rowing takes the most willpower, closely followed long distance running. But weightlifting requires more discipline and getting autistic with numbers.
The rooner physique is garbage, that's their main issue.
I roon, but it's absolutely not my main training. I lift 6 days a week and roon 3-5 miles probably 3 times a week. I just do it to keep my cardio fitness up.
>more willpower
Uhh no lol. I used to do long distance running and it was way easier than benching lmao3plate
benching any amount of weight is like 5 seconds of effort, running a marathon is hours of effort
I could stand up now and go outside and run a marathon.
It would takes months if not years of effort to reach 3pl8 bench
That's like saying "I could go to the gym and bench a barbell at any time, it takes months, if not years of effort to break 3.5 hours on a marathon"
You have to compare percentile to percentile.
>You have to compare percentile to percentile.
No. You have to compare training session to training session.

You were probably some shitter with an 18 minute 5k.
I only know my one minute mile times average around 6:45
55th percentile (assuming you're around 25).
This is about the equivalent of benching 190 if you weigh 150lbs.
55th percentile of what? Olympic athletes?
55th percentile of people who run at the amateur level and above.
Ok well only the top 1% are physically active at all so top 55% of 1% is pretty good.
Yes, in the same sense that benching 1.5 pl8 puts you in the top 1% of the population as well.
At the gym I go to most guys can’t even do that.
most guys can't bench LMAO185 lbs?
Give me source
https://runhive.com/tools/performance-calculator
The data is extrapolated from 5k run times from about 10,000 different runners.
Do you think the 55th percentile of people who lift at the amateur level and above is 1,25x bw (190 at 150)?
6:45 isn’t that good mate. I ran 6:10 in high school gym class even though the only physical activity I did was playing tennis. If you run consistently/with progressive overload for a year you will surely get past 6:45, probably even below 6.

I didn’t say I ran marathons anywhere actually. 15 miles is the longest I will go.
uh huh. run tracker where
I mean 18 minutes is a pretty good 5k time
18 minute 5k is the 1.5 pl8 bench of the runner world.
It isn't
Sub 20 is the 2pl8 of running (shows you've been training consistently for a few months). Sub 19 is pretty much 3pl8 (training for a while, some never reach it).

Let’s see a marathon runner bench 3 plates then. It’s only five seconds of effort :^)
Ryan Hall could probably do it if he weren't natty.
A training session for long distance running takes a frickton more willpower than a training session for lifting. That's what the thread is about.

because u smol
this is why I do burpees for cardio. I also don't want a hip replacement at 30 from muh epic miles.
burpees are significantly worse on your wrists than running is for any of your lower body joints
sure if you have lady wrists. Do more pseudo planche push ups.
Lol cope, I ran marathons and ultras all throughout my 20s. Git gud.
