Don't spend your time reading about what you can and can't and should and shouldn't do in some random ass books or internet posts because your life is inherently unique to your own self, reality is tied to your perception and awareness, it can't all be summed up in a few paragraphs

Because they are easier to do than pushups and require no equipment and little instruction.

I always hated this shit exercise with a passion. I work my abs with hanging leg raises, planking, roll outs and dragon flags (one leg tugged), but sit-ups are just dreadful for me and I haven't done them in decades. Tried crunches the other day, but I still want to stay at the exercises I do already.

Because IST gym teachers do not exist

I wonder wether I wouldnt have waited until I was 29 with doing more physical activity and enjoying workouts if only my elementary PE teacher wasn't such a c**t who ruined sports for me. Call me a gay, but getting grades on a competition between the kids who go to a sports club and those who dont sucked fricking ass. Would I have understand earlier that I mustnt compare my performance to others, but to my yesterday self, I could have been athletic in my primes. And when somebody woud have shown me weightlifting instead of the shit we did at school.

this. military recruiters literally scouting high schools and schools forcing you to take the ASVAB. pretty sure one of the requirements of marine corps is 50 crunches within a certain time

No. School just happen to do it for the same reason military does it. It costs nothing.
No equipment required means more money you can mismanage and steal.

    >class is called P.E.
    >PE stands for Physical Education
    >never educated about anything; just do basic “stretches” for a few minutes and cardio (at best) the remainder of the class
either change the name to “physical activity” or add genuine education about how the human body works.

We did get education in my PE classes, we watched the movie super size me lol.

But I do remember in highschool them teaching us how to do different exercises, how to lift properly, the importance of cardio, and proper form when running.

Germany introduced physical education and gymnasiums into the United States

Friedrich Ludwig Jahn is the man responsible and is also the father of gymnastics as well as modern fitness culture, while German American acolytes of his work opened the first gymnasiums in the United States during the 19th century

The physical fitness tests of the public education system are very close to the physical fitness tests of the us military, which mostly recruits at public schools with a focus on lower income school districts

I dunno how they did it in your shit school, but for PE here we generally learned the rules/techniques of various sports. There was even a school gym where we were supposed to learn how to use gym equipment and how progressive overload works, though this was definitely the worst taught component in the curriculum.

I do 500 of those a day. Usually consecutively. Even on "rest days". They're just a maintenance exercise at this point. Planks and mountain climbers are significantly better for core.
