        They roid morons.

But this isn't HGH gut like some of the gigamorons in here think.

It's just a normal body and being overly lean in swimming means you will sink like a rock, so a bit of fat is good.

I separated that shit to make 80 IQ boneheads understand, but I guess it was futile. I'll try again without separating it. I'm answering the OP's question:

Why do elite short distance swimmers have protruding bellies and are not completely flat? Roids?

            >Why do elite short distance swimmers have protruding bellies and are not completely flat?
Because it's a normal body, the pants are very tight which accentuates their belly, and they need the fat to stay afloat.
            >roids
They do take roids but it doesn't contribute to the way their bellies are shaped.
Some people in this thread, OP included, think roid gut looks like that.
            It doesn't.

Leanness is optional in most sports. It might save you 0.1% of your race time, but that's not gonna matter until you're top 100 in the world.

Those pants are tight af and pushes their fat up a bit. Also swimmers don't need to be lean as frick because it's about who swims fastest not a bodybuilding stage. When I swam one of the fastest kids was a fatass

Because being below like 13% bf actually negatively effects your athletic performance. There is no benefit to cutting if your sport doesn’t have weight classes.

Sprinters and most runners are very cut.
Swimming just doesn't have the same benefit because fat makes them float better, which means 100% of their swimming is towards going forward, instead of desperately trying not to sink.
