i keep telling people it's all about the grip strength, once i worked on my grip and forearms, bicep curls, bench press, overhead press, dead lifts, became way much easier
this. i did machine bench press for the longest time and i was able to do nearly 50% more than this one other dude that was repping 2pl8 on a bench press. and yet at the same time i was able to do only 1 pl8 on a bench press for similar reps.
and it was exactly because of that, grip strength. well technique too but the point is that when i was doing barbell bench press i didn't even get to feel the slightest amount of exhaustion in my chest but my b***h wrists and forearms were fricking TOAST. my chest muscle was developed enough to bench double that.
that was a wake up call for me to start doing basic compounds to maintain a reasonable level of functional strength in the gym and then add the bodybuilding movements (because thats still my primary goal)

I don't know about you but I find natural physiques a lot better than roid physiques. Might be the proportions, eg no goofy ass baloon delts, or the fact that I attribute everything to the roids and not the personal effort. Bodybuilders look like ass. HOWEVER, roided athlete physiques can look amazing since the mass is a byproduct and not their main pursuit
