Manlets joke apart, these guys were basically superhumans in comparison to modern people,
They were the elite of people back then which are already way healthier than the average person.
      See pic related.

the real reason is because hardcore bodybuilding attracts mentally ill dysgenic freaks and weirdos
the "bodybuilders" of the past were just strongmen and weightlifters posing as a side job, naturally strong, big individuals who were genetically predisposed for being muscular and well built. the kind of people who hop on roids today are dysgenic, naturally weak freaks who got bullied in school and hop on roids to cope. anybody who thinks modern bodybuilding looks good or thinks 21inch arms at 10% bodyfat is healthy is a mentally ill freak, not a naturally strong man who lifts weights and eats steak and eggs everyday

dysgenic subhumans hop on steroids. being muscular nowadays is fricking meaningless. in the past the strongest bloke in the village would lift weights, nowadays you get people who are skinny nerds all their lives, hop on steroids and try to act like strongmen, its a fricking joke, this pug nosed nerd was never supposed to be muscular by nature

        Anonymous

Because they didn't lift. By and large, however, the general standards of attractiveness were far higher. The fact that beauty was appreciated rather than perverted and/or villified was also likely a factor

        Anonymous

A lot of them may not have looked like roiders because they didn’t engage in hypertrophy based weight training but the vast majority of men in general were a lot fricking stronger and had insanely high grip strength compared to the typical person today.

i keep telling people it's all about the grip strength, once i worked on my grip and forearms, bicep curls, bench press, overhead press, dead lifts, became way much easier

            Anonymous

this. i did machine bench press for the longest time and i was able to do nearly 50% more than this one other dude that was repping 2pl8 on a bench press. and yet at the same time i was able to do only 1 pl8 on a bench press for similar reps.

and it was exactly because of that, grip strength. well technique too but the point is that when i was doing barbell bench press i didn't even get to feel the slightest amount of exhaustion in my chest but my b***h wrists and forearms were fricking TOAST. my chest muscle was developed enough to bench double that.

that was a wake up call for me to start doing basic compounds to maintain a reasonable level of functional strength in the gym and then add the bodybuilding movements (because thats still my primary goal)

I don't know about you but I find natural physiques a lot better than roid physiques. Might be the proportions, eg no goofy ass baloon delts, or the fact that I attribute everything to the roids and not the personal effort. Bodybuilders look like ass. HOWEVER, roided athlete physiques can look amazing since the mass is a byproduct and not their main pursuit

I think the reason why a lot of roid physiques look bad is because people who do steroids usually are dogshit at training, using their time to research chemestry instead of training principles

This is complete bullshit lol, anyone who can compete in Mr Olympia has a combination of top tier genetics, efficient drug usage and an absolute frickton of optimal training.

Natty bodybuilders looked better back then because natty was all there was, so the most competitive, driven guys would come out on top. Nowadays competing in natty bodybuilding is like competing in minor league baseball. The people who are super competitive and serious about it will usually end up roiding to compete with the big boys, so you dont see as many people with top tier genetics and training competing in natty bodybuilding as you would back in the day.

Better diet, better genes, most of them were manlets. The average person was pretty low body fat and lean back then since food was no where near as processed and full of garbage, so someone who worked out a lot could easily stay pretty shredded on a standard diet. Also men were a lot more likely to have engaged in physical labor from a young age which also contributed to higher test and strength for adults.

testosterone is decline because everyone is fat, not because of unnamed and unquantified "chemicals".

It’s both. The chemicals that are making most modern people obese are also directly correlated with dropping testosterone levels, if anything they are simultaneously occurring symptoms

                another coping fatty.
What's more likely? Barely detectable levels of estrogen in the water or the fact that before 1985 there were no microwave ovens and an entire industry of frozen junk food AND most people used to smoke which is a powerful appetite suppressant?
Also you had like 7 channels on TV and maybe a VCR.
Now you can sit endlessly watching 400 channels while shoveling microwave taquitos into your face non-stop.
No you're right it must be the plastic water bottle.

The drops in testosterone in men as well as sperm count persist even when taking into account BMI and hours of physical activity per week. I know it’s tough to accept but you need to stop chugging the plastic israelite and drinking onions products, it’s what’s giving you gyno

                Anonymous

I dont have gyno nor am I fat.
I never had my sperm counted so I cant comment on that.
Why are people who watch what they eat and/or exercise
seemingly not affect by these chemicals, but only fat slobs who each too much do?
And if plastic bottles are causing obesity via low test, how come there are just as many fat women as men?

It's a lot of factors. Too big of portions, too many calories, toxic seed oils and pesticides do not help.

Again, why are people who watch what they eat and/or exercise not affected by seed oils, "toxic chemicals", estrogen in the water, microplastics and all the other memes are supposedly the cause of obesity?

? They are. Even fit men who work out and eat healthy today have notably lower sperm count than average men from 3 generations ago. Not to mention lower grip strength, less gritty and tough personalities, etc

Gritty personality? What the frick does that even mean?

Consistent and significant sperm count drops have been recorded over a 90 year period

“Grit” is defined by the perseverance and toughness of somebody. You are mentally deficient if you think people who grew up pre information technology age weren’t tougher across the board just as a result of the lives they lived and how much more manual labor they’d be engaging in from a young age. The change in that alone is probably a substantial reason for overall drops in testosterone and strength.

                >how do you know what someone’s grip strength was 100 years ago

Uh, scientific studies? They collect data, they give the subjects a tool that measures the pressure generated by their grip and scientists from today compare the average of modern subjects to the average of old results.

No actual proof its from chemicals only pure speculation.
Nothing in your rambling about personalities is proof that a person with a "gritty" lifestyle has higher testosterone than a person without.
Someone with a "gritty" lifestyle today of hard labor and getting in bar fights or what the frick ever can still be a fat frick with low T because he eats high calorie gas station junk food all day.

Look at the percentage drops over time and when they’re occurring. Sperm counts were dropping noticeably faster and ahead of rises in obesity in the population and continue to do so. There are studies with direct comparisons of sperm counts of men today with those of the past separated by BMI and physical exercise but Im too lazy to spoon feed rn

Estrogenic plastics are extremely well documented, some pesticides are estrogenic, birth control being found in the water is well documented, and so on. There are plenty of things with plenty of research and of course it effects everyone who's exposed. Who're these mysterious people not effected by estrogenic compounds in the modern world?

there are literally millions of fit, healthy people who dont have all these problems supposedly caused by these chemicals.
There are millions more fat lazy slobs whose only problems are caused by being fat lazy slobs, not chemicals.
Its not plastic's fault you're a b***h. Stop blaming chemicals.

People can be healthy despite exposure to industrial toxins, but they would all be that much healthier if they weren't exposed to toxins. Most of the battle, though, is just avoiding processed foods. 99% of the shit we're exposed to that shouldn't go in a human body comes from processed foods. Avoiding plastics, contaminents in water, etc is just the icing on the cake of reducing toxin exposure.

ok so now its processed foods causing all the problems.
I practically grew up on junk food. But that was before video games and internet porn so we actually went ouside and did shit and werent fat.

It takes years to develop metabolic dysfunction, chronic inflammation, gut dysbiosis, etc. from processed food consumption. Children are growing and constantly generating new healthy cells, so they can take a lot of abuse without health problems. Once you reach adulthood health starts to deteriorate as the body is less able to reverse damage caused by processed foods.

maybe there is trace estrogen in municipal water/sewer systems but if you think you can drink enough to affect you hormone levels you are literally moronic.
Also everyone on rural areas have wells that use ground water. Water that has been there for millions of years and is fed by rainwater seeping into the ground.
Do you really think estrogen can survive the evaporation cycle and wind up in the water table 200 feet underground?

Sandow aimed to replicate Greek statues, which are the peak of hundreds of years of aesthetic study. His goal wasn't to be as big as possible, which is more of the modern pursuit, his goal was to be aesthetic. He looks so good because he had an extremely specific focus.

my guess is these men followed traditional strength routines, no isolation
leading to natural looking proportions between muscle groups
prob did no or very little bench exercises
