>1lb of muscle burns 6 more calories than 1lb of fat
>takes a month to build 0.5-1lb muscle on average
>6 months to gain ~5lb muscle (+30cal BMR)
>takes 3500 calorie deficit to burn 1lb of fat
>3500/30=116.67
>your reward for 6 months of consistent lifting assuming you eat the same calories is you lose an extra pound every 117 days
realistically you'll do even worse than this because you don't gain shit while recomp/cutting

You are not counting the energy spent lifting the weights
how much energy is this? I read somewhere that it's basically nothing
Pretty much. W=F*d, which means that to deadlift 405lbs (180kg) to a height of 20inches (0.5m) you expend 180*9.8*0.5=882 joules, which is 0.21kcal. So if you do 5 sets of 5 you expend 5*5*0.21, which is 5kcal.

Says here 4x8 diddlys with 175kg burned 100 calories.
That would be correct if the body were 100% efficient, which it's far from.
For the same reason they think that hiit circuit training homosexualry will help them build any significant amount of muscle. They don't know shit about training.
it's better than not lifting weight, but it's not that big a deal, especially considering steady state cardio is real big fricking efficient kind of a deal to loosing weight, way way ahead of any other way to loose weight diet included. maybe theres also a cope somewhere here too by people who don't wanna cardio spread "no need for cardio, just lift brow" kind of shit idk.
I've literally never heard that as an arguement. The reason why it's good to lift weights when wanting to lose weight is because it's like a multiplier.
Someone that has muscles will have lower bodyfat% despite carrying the same amount of fat. Muscular guy needs to lose less weight to look good at a X weight.
Someone that's skinnyfat and has virtually no muscles needs to drop to like 50kg to have abs. Who the frick wants to weigh 50kg? This is what they most likely mean. Otherwise in vacuum lifting is terrible for time spent vs calories burned.
also having more muscles raises your maintenence calories
youre looking at BMR which is shit, that 5lbs of muscle you gain is moving and flexing constantly with every other muscle. it takes more energy to do everything, but youre putting more energy in so its way easier
>takes a month to build 0.5-1lb muscle on average
It takes a week to build that much you fricking dolt.
Where did 1lb of fat = 3500kcal come from?
1g of fat is 9kcal
1kg is 1000kg
1kg of fat is 9000kcal
1kg is 2.2lb
9000/2.2 = 4091
1lb of fat is 4091kcal
Maybe they assume 1lbs of fat is actually less than a 1lbs of pure 100% fat or something like that.
on paper you can write down calories to all decimals but realistically +/- 500 cals is close enough for cico purposes.
no one said it's good for burning calories it's good for retaining more lean mass that is all.
muscle burns more calories at rest, but what you don't understand is that muscle burns A LOT more calories when it's working. As you increase your muscle mass, you will burn many more calories due to increased force production and endurance as well. Your body will have to work harder to meet the demands of your muscle as it grows, and not just while you rest
Weightlifting is not good for losing weight. You tank a lot of water and you are hungry all the time.
Well I lost around 7 kg since I started lifting.
>Why do people say weightlifting is good for losing weight?
at least you will become aware of your body, diet and actually have a goal in mind instead of just hoping you'll have the motivation just to stop eating and make no other changes
From going to the gym regularly for 2 years and maintaining while lifting heavy during my newbie gains I stopped being skinnyfat, and with all the muscle I put on I can eat 1000 calories more without gaining fat.
My hunger levels haven't changed so I literally never need to go on a diet ever again, if anything I have to intentionally try and eat more to make gains
I've gained roughly 30 lbs of muscle since I started which means losing around 1 pound every 3 weeks for free. The average person puts on 2-3 pounds a year so even a little muscle cancels that out.
There was a time where I did a full-body calisthenics routine every day. I lost a lot of body fat and gained just a little bit of muscle with only a 30min/day time investment. I would highly recommend it if your goal is to lose fat.
what was the routine?
Three sets each of pushups, squats, inverted row using my desk, and calf raises. No rest time.
Now I actually think 1 set would have been sufficient.
It's gymcel cope to avoid doing cardio because they are lazy.
