why do people still think only americans are fat?

Aside from obvious europoor jealousy, what other reasons could people still be so uneducated on the obesity pandemic that is a global disease? Europe's current obesity rate is on par with America's in 2005 and will continue to grow.

On that note, if europeasants are healthier than americans why are they so fat?

While I don’t agree with his claim that Western parts of Turkey are genetically European, there are large swathes of Western Turkey, that are almost entirely genetically Anatolian. Don’t get me wrong, the Seljuks left their mark, but to say that modern Western Turks aren’t “true” Anatolians (like I have seen in this thread) is insane.

Are you guys moronic? A considerable number of people at 30 BMI are below 20%bf so "not that fat" is an accurate description. The point is having the upper category as "30 or above" is stupid in a world where 40 50 and 60 are increasingly common. To really compare countries we need more granular data. Christ I didn't think I would need to explain this basic concept but I guess its true fit is the dumbest board now.

while I agree that bmi is moronic because its very favorable towards fatties and unfavorable towards people that actually have muscle, this is cope.

Anything above 30 is where health problems from being start being obvious. It's an excellent limit.
There isn't really a point in catering to American sub groups when the point of BMI isn't to evaluate a single person, but entire populations.

                >we need more granular data
Definitely, but in all, BMI is a decent population-level measure of health. Its not an individual one and people who use it that way are using it incorrectly. For the latter purpose, FFMI, bf%, or even waist to hip ratios are all better indicators of health. Using these would also destroy fatty cope because if they say
                >BMI is flawed
                You can say
                >Sure, but according to three other, more accurate metrics, you're still a fat sack of shit.

You remind me of that moronic keto documentary "Fathead". At the start the guy complains about the problems with BMI and says he's considered obese despite being healthy. Then a doctor tests his bf% which turns out to over 30%. No acknowledgement of how moronic he was to complain about being classified as obese is made.

BMI 25-27 is acceptable since you have more muscle mass. But as a 6' natty you won't be able to carry more than 95 or 210 lbs while being lean. But you will still look good and be 15-18% bf.

I think it's very unfair what people do on IST. These people are victims of the system we live in. Yes it's not ideal that they lack the willpower to avoid becoming obese or being lazy, but the fact is if we transported these people back to the 50s they'd live happy, healthy lives, probably have kids and own a home, etc. We just live in a profoundly sick time.

Check mental illness stats, stats surrounding the degradation of the family, and so on... These are not individual problems. They are societal problems and need societal solutions. Responsible individuals who can plan well and have access to various resources can implement individual solutions, but we instead choose to say everyone else is degenerate rather than seeing that society is failing.
I also have an ongoing theory that willpower is fake and that it's all hormones, planning, etc. Like if you have junk food in the house, it's hard to avoid it, if you don't have junk food in the house your life is way easier. What most people here on IST say is tantamount to Jocko Willink bullshit like buy junk food and keep it around while dieting as an exercise to increase "willpower". That will never work for most people, maybe they're autistic so it works differently for them, I don't know. The real goal should be making it easy to do the right thing, and modern society makes that very, very hard.

    Because the fatness is different.

In Russia a lot of obesity is amongst elderly women, where obesity in youth is much rarer and among 20-30 year olds you only occasionally see it amongst some men.

In the US obesity is common amongst much larger groups of the population (although there are some categories where it’s rather). As well as extreme obesity is much more common (40+ BMI). The sight of someone with extreme obesity is much rarer in most parts of Europe than the US, so because of this it’s a much more visible phenomenon.

England is probably the most comparable country I have seen to the US, where other countries tend to have a bias where there is a subsection of people who are obese, but not so spread through all demographics.
