    Chicken is versatile in how it can be prepared and is great for its protein content. Rice gets you those carbs for energy and you can make a ton in advance. When I first started meal prepping, I found out that three cups of rice is too much for one person.

      It has nothing to do with originality, it's all practicality. I can throw rice and frozen broccoli in my steamer and have good cheap food with zero prep. It's just a good no brainer, that's it.

        1. Pork is cheaper than chicken, especially now where fricking chicken drumsticks are over 5 dollars for a pack. Chicken breast are not as cheap as pork flat out.
        2. Chicken is too lean and fat is needed for hormone conversion.

              I like pork as much as the next guy and here it's basically cheaper than chicken, but apparently they get fed shredded grocery discards, packaging included, so they eat plastic in non-trivial amounts. This is in the first world btw. Now the question is how much of it they just shit out and how much of it stays in there.           boneless, skinless chicken breasts are $2.49/lb at my local grocery store, and it's not even one of those budget ALDI type stores. Pork used to be $2/lb but I can't find it for less than $4 now.

    Simple, cheap, effective. Can be prepared dozens of ways for variety of diet taste/texture. Easy to produce in large quantities for weekly meal prep. Stays moderately well in the fridge. Also dunks on idiots that buy into miracle cure diets for hundreds more than you'll spend on chicken, rice, and broccoli in a whole year.
