    Because you lose recruitment of stabilizer muscles, leaving gains on the table.
    Also barbells are safe if you do it safely. Smith machines don't cure moronation.

      stabilizer muscles aren't some mysterious subclass of muscles. any muscle group stabilizes every joint it crosses/attaches to. quads, hams, and calves are the main knee stabilizers for example.

      what you're missing out on when doing smith machine stuff is development of your skill of stabilization. that's it.

      I never understood the story behind this. The guy is clearly using the machine. Right? Why would she go and use it while he's using it? Why does the guy just stare at her as she sits down and gets ready to guillotine herself? Why is the daughter fixing her hair so much?

    close grip bench on smith machine is great for triceps

    smith machine is also good for calf exercises

    I like incline bench on it. And shrugs and calves, but anything else and it’s just better and feels more natural to do with a barbell

    squatting in the smith the machine just seems awkward, I feel like you if you're gonna use a machine go with hack squat or pendulum squat
