(why haven't you taken the) Dancepill thread

Anon, aren't you tired of lifting for women? Going through all that blood, sweat & tears only to be greeted with vapid "wow you're so strong" from the b***hes? Getting all your real mires from the resident gym twinkbear (no homo, of course)?

Why don't you try a physical hobby that actually involves touching women, for a change? Yes, I'm talking about social dancing, the kind done in pairs.

Besides, we got all kinds for all tastes. Pale art hoes, athletic teenage tomboys, thicc latinas, busty MILFs, pantsuit girlbosses, skinny model types, you name it - she's probably on a dancefloor somewhere within your typical Tinder query range. Except she's not on Tinder because she isn't looking to waste time, she's looking for that emotion, that chemistry that flares up when man and woman touch.

    >dubs
Witness me as I speak these truths!

It's easy. An adult male with no CNS issues and no prior training can be made to passably dance in 4-8 weeks of regular training.
It's cheap. Unless you get into competitive dancing (and you absolutely can), group lessons are on par with a middle-class gym membership, and the only special equipment you really need are shoes.
It's variable. If you live in a somewhat major city, I can almost guarantee you there's at least half a dozen different dance schools within a resonable distance of you, all practicing different dances. Try them all and choose the one that feels better to you.
It's competitive, if you want to. Even the most casual and informal styles have some kind of competitive scene, and some have a tens-of-thousands-strong global ladder for you to climb, and that's not even getting into official dancesport.
It's social. You'll get to meet people, talk to them, touch them and get comfortable being up close to them. You'll learn to communicate with your body and touch, a skill that's quickly becoming a lost art in our virtualized, disembodied world. Reject fake&gay emojis, RETVRN to emoting at people with your whole body and seeing them do the same.

    But most importantly, it's fun.

Whatever. Enjoy your free (You) and your sweaty gym shower buttsecks.

most girls look like shit IRL, with no makeup or sexy clothes. That's my conclusion after going to the pool today

Most women IRL don't look like women on the internets, even if it's literally the same women. This doesn't matter, though, because dance lets you bypass all that surface fluff and get to the real thing - the emotional response, the connection, the chemistry and how her behavior is driven by it. You'd be surprised how often women lie to themselves and others about this and how easy it is to cut through those lies without even saying a word.

I tried to start going to a place that taught it but they told me they only taught to people that already knew. Frick those posh morons

Frick them extra for not referring you to a place that actually teaches novices.
Good news, though - these places, especially the ones that survived the coof madness, are out there looking for you on every advertising channel they can think of, and the first lesson is almost always free. And there's never enough dudes there. Just google "dance classes in <my area>" and show up. What do you have to lose?

Not a reference I immediately recognize, but one I can appreciate. Social dance used to be a staple of, well, social life all over the globe, and I feel that we have to reclaim it before it's sissified along with everything else in our societies.

Srsly tho, there's probably a summer class of bored coeds with about 1 dude per 3 of them in there, and that dude is as likely as not some onions techie male-feminist. Go inject some physique and aesthetics into that class.

did ballet dance professionally in high school, fun stuff

Mad respect. Ballet is a level of dedication to the art I can only aspire to, and it seems to translate well to other, simpler choreo systems later. Mayb you should try some competitive dancing?

    I’m intrigued.

What are some good styles to try first? I live in a big enough city to have options.

And of course, there's the community.
Many different communities, in fact, some small and local, some stretching around the globe. This was something that I, as a neet, was pleasantly surprised by back when I first got into dancing. Of course, there's a lot of drama and various bullshit that you may expect in a female-skewed crowd, but the stakes are low and it teaches you to maintain frame without getting into arguments with women.

And then there are events, local and far away, visiting pros from elsewhere and all that jazz. It's fun, I tell you hwat.

Depends if you want to get straight to full body contact or prefer something more casual and technical.
First case - Caribbean dances are your best bet. Salsa, kizomba, zouk and especially bachata. They are quite popular globally, so there's good chances you can get some in your city. beware of Latinx grannies, I hear they can be very clingy.
Second variant would lead you to swing and blues dances. It seems that West Coast Swing is the most popular at the moment, and it's a casual, low-effort dance at its core, but with a lot of room for play and technical complexity. The competitive scene is, as the zoomies say, bussin. Or you can get into lindy hop and do your cardio while you LARP as a 60s hipster.

My best advice is just try everything you have within reasonable distance and see what you like the most. As I've said, first lessons are free.

Seems like every recent previous gen had their dancing, shame its faded away from regular nights out. The closest I recently came to was mosh pits at a hardcore gig. May have to give it a go OP

Well, the zoomies have their tiktokfortnite prancing, but the social aspect is, as with everything zoomer, warped and flattened by the tech. Social dancing became a niche activity, and that's a damn shame.

No you don't. You can just as easy be a happy farmer dancing some folksy dance at the local fair and wooing your neighbor's pretty daughter.
The kind of dancing I'm about IS an urbane pursuit, but that's just because I'm an urbane and cultured man, and so are most of anons here. You can RETVRN-poast all you want, but deep down you know Exit is not the answer, not in the long term. But who am I to forbid you to LARP your life away to your heart's content?

Have fun reverting to pre-urban culture, I'm off to dance in the sweet summer air. Be back in a few hours, probably. Keep the thread alive, would you kindly?

But once I’m a little more satisfied with my gains I’m going to enroll in salsa classes. I’ve taken previous dates to salsa classes and they’re fun but I wasn’t stretching as much then so my shoulders/hips were too tight back then.

That's the same thing but it's obvious you're desperate since there's no benefit on dancing other than meeting women. At least lifting makes you strong.
Anyway, for most women dancing is just shaking their asses like Black folk, and when you try a real dance like waltz or tango, all normies will look at you disgusted for making them feel inferior.

I started taking dance classes in spring and it is legitimately fun. But since the issue was raised by OP, I must ask: if I go to a dance studio once a week, realistically how many dates am I going to get in a year? How often should I trying to ask for a date or push for something "more" (number, hangout, lunch, etc)? I'm lean and fit but I'm not going to be "mired" in all honesty, so please adjust your expectations.

Don't give me shit over this question ("if you are only going to dance to pick up women, then...."). Bullshit. I enjoy video games but I stopped playing them to have more time to be productive and advance my life, same goes for dance.

once a week isn't going to get you very far at all man, i used to go out twice a week and dance for around 4 hours straight each night, so like 8 hours a week is optimal for dancing gains, but like i said if you have a partner youll learn at a good rate, just put in the hours you could get really good in a few months with the right instructor
i basically taught myself at dancehalls and with friends

Speaking as a Lindy Hopper, literally 0. Just be fun to dance with; don't try to force people into moves, let your partners 'express themselves'... be able to try things and laugh together when they don't work. I'm a 0/10 and women ask ME to dance because they can see that it's fun for my partners.

PROTIP: If you don't know what to do and feel like your just repeating 1 or 2 basic moves, find another lead on the floor that is slightly more advance than you and copy what they are doing

Started Salsa classes last year. After dancing together with a girl from time to time I asked her out after the 8th classes. We had already talked to each other from time to time and connected on Facebook. Now she is my girlfriend.
If she would have said no I would probably not have asked out any other girl there - otherwise you are just the creep going to classes asking out girls.
Social parties might work better but I don't like them a lot because of different dance styles, I only go to my school's socials.

The downside of having a dancing-GF is that you have to be comfortable enough to see your GF being dry-humped by another guy when dancing bachata. That is why I never go to socials with her and also changed classes so we don't see each other there.
