because some people don't understand that 2000 calories of vegetables, dairy, meat isn't the same as 2000 calories of sugar and sneed oil

in a perfect lab, yes they'll provide the same energy and result in the same weight loss or whatever

in reality, what you eat affects your hormones and hunger and shit in all kinds of way we don't understand yet

      https://conciergemedicinemd.com/the-twinkie-diet/

      >The Twinkie Diet: In an illustrative study of one, Mark Haub a professor of nutrition at Kansas State University, demonstrated to his students that he could lose 27 pounds in just 10 weeks by eating a high-sugar, high-fat, low calorie diet. Professor Haub ate Twinkies, Little Debbie snacks and other sugary fare every three hours, instead of eating meals. To add variety to his dessert regimen, he also chowed-down on Doritos, sugary cereals and Oreos. Despite eating mostly junk food, (plus one protein shake per day), he limited his intake to 1800 calories per day, about 800 calories less than necessary to maintain the body weight of a man his size.

      >Interestingly, his body fat and cholesterol dropped after this diet, despite eating tons of fat and sugar. In other words, eating sugar and fat does not raise your cholesterol, provided that you are on a low-calorie diet and that you drop body fat. We see similar findings in people who lose weight on the Atkins’ Diet. Their cholesterol levels improve, even though they eat a diet very high in animal fat. This is because being overweight raises cholesterol.

      >Not surprisingly, Haub showed what all doctors and scientists already know: Weight loss really is about the number of calories that you consume, not the composition of those calories.

because obesity is skyrocketing but people are eating the same cals..

The "same cals" that people are eating is a surplus that is enough to make them gain weight.
If you're eating a slight calorie surplus that causes you to gain 5lbs of excess fat every year, you could eat the "same cals" for years before you become obese.
People are also FAR more sedentary than they used to be. No-one moves their bodies anymore.

Mostly its cargo culters repeating the talking points of fitness influencers paid to sell diet programmes. Losing fat has two rules, eat less and move more, but getting there all depends on your willpower and some people find some diets like keto or vegetarian etc easier or harder.

All diets that successfully work to lose bodyfat stem primarily from caloric deficits.

That said eat your vegetables. You should be eating fruits and vegetables regardless of wanting to lose weight. Eat your vegetables.
