they decrease inflammation, the thing necessary for hypertrophy. its great for recovery, but not for adaptation

Good description but hypertrophy isn't always same as adaptation. For weight training yes but not for endurance. I train mostly endurance with weights (swimmer + runnergay), and am still making strength + endurance gains even though I have a 5-10 min cold shower after every workout.

What this guy said. I should have mentioned this mechanism in my Rhonda Patrick post.

cold decreases inflammation which increases recovery time which leads to worse recovery

        >inflammation causes gains
Show a single study that backs this up

Asking for a study? Wow, that's pretty cringe, dude. Don't you know where you are?

Yes, don't do that. Cold showers after a workout will cause your muscles to shrink for warmth, squeezing out all of the workout juice. All the workout juice you just worked for gets pissed out uselessly.

cold helps soreness but reduces growth. But a cold shower probably doesnt get cold enough to really frick you up too much. Ice baths are good for athletes and people who need to keep soreness to a minimum but not so much for people who are looking to build muscle.

oh so you're saying that a bath (in a bathtub) is bad for muscle growth, but a shower won't kill my gains?

        Anonymous

I'm mostly saying that an ice bath will get cold enough for long enough that it could have an impact but a shower on the cold setting probably wont be cold enough to really hinder much of anything. I think if you took a bath in the cold water without adding ice to really get it super cold probably the same. But what the frick do I know... Renaissance Periodization made a yt video talking about ice baths a while back if you wanna go listen to someone much more well read on the topic than I am

The pump doesnt even build muscle anon, BCAAs do after the muscle receives enough signal that effort is being made. The more effort, the more muscle. Its a protein synthesis, just eat close to enough and work hard. Keep steady at it, watch muscles appear.
